(More customer reviews)True to the schedule and quantity of cartoons, Warner Bros. is releasing the Fifth Volume of Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies Golden Collection right on time. These have been such a joy to look forward to each year around Halloween. I do hope the minimal of 10 volumes contines to be carried out. I recently heard there's a prospect of 17 if Warner Bros. decides to release all 489 Looney Tunes and all 518 Merrie Melodies cartoons.
This box set with continue with 60 restored and uncut cartoon shorts on 4 discs with more than 5 hours of bonus features to go along with it. The first disc is dedciated to Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. The second disc is a new collaboration of "Fairy Tale" stories with the Warner Twist. Disc three is to categorize the talents of Bob Clampett in some of his best animation. And Porky is going to close out the set in Disc 4 along with other Warner classics.
With over five hours of extras, this will sure be a delightfull collection to serve well with the previous four. One of the bonus features expected in this release include a documentary entitled: "Chuck Jones: Extremes and Inbetweens, A Life in Animation" (which was produced and aired on PBS in 2000).

With this collection, there seems to be more instored for the Looney Tunes fan with more TV specials and documentaries than any other previous collection has held so far. I'm pleased to see a whole disc being dedicated to Bob Clampett as well. There were some previous concerns that not enough of his stuff was shown in the second and third collections, but it seems Warner Bros. is making up for that here. Can't wait for October!!!

PLUS fifteen other shorts yet to be announced! Although this is the last in the Golden Collection series don't despair; WB has many more on the way under different titles. My personal favorite is Punch Trunk about a miniature elephant that hitchiked in a bunch of bananas and wound up in the city and appeared virtually everywhere and blasted the skies with his tiny elephant noise, incl one man's bird bath!
Martian Through Georgia is fabulous about a lonely Martian who comes to earth searching for companionship and tries desperately to fit in but no matter what he does, people still see him as a monster and tell him to go home! Monster go home! Tearfully he does and finds love on his own planet.
Now Hear This is very surreal and is told with sound and picture a la Gerald Mc Boing Boing, just wonderful to see and hear.
Cannot WAIT until october! I already ordered it! God Bless Chuck Jones!

Looney Tunes - Movie Collection (Bugs Bunny/Road-Runner Movie/1001 Rabbit Tales) (1979) Review

(More customer reviews)Got this one with a Best Buy gift card that I received as a gift for Christmas. Although it was exciting to purchase the DVD, I've mixed emotions...because of the content of Disc II. Let me talk about Disc 1 first. To start off...disc one is great and I laughed & laughed & laughed some more. It's filled with lots of memorable Looney Tunes Favorites...strung together cleverly with a modern story. The major hi-lights from Disc one have to be "Ali Baba Bunny", "Robin Hood Daffy", and "What's Opera, Doc?", although every cartoon is a riot. There are some episodes (cartoons) which our local tv station doesn't play too often...so it's nice to have them in their full length versions with such clarity.
On the other hand...Disc 2 is strung together with a very aggravating & annoying modern story, featuring Yosemite Sam & his loud-mouth, bratty nerd of a son. It's not amusing unless you're the type who's expecting anything to happen. In fact, this whole disc is spoiled because of the above mentioned character (Yosemite Sam's son). It's difficult to appreciate a cartoon when you have an ugly character with a really loud mouth & bad attitude. That's why I only rated the DVD 4 stars. Actually...I'd rate it about 3.8 stars...if possible. The hi-lights on Disc 2 are "Ducking out of the cold", "Hassan Chop", and "Singing Frog", which won an award at the cartoon festival, here in Montreal in the 90's.
If you are into a bunch of laughs and don't mind Yosemite Sam's annoying loudmouth son, this 2DVD set is for you...because it is truly a funny item...and at 171 minutes in length...it's definitely worth adding to your collection. Picture, Color & Sound Quality is remarkable and clear, making it a treat to watch over and over.
