Robert Conrad and company portray the fighter pilots of VMF214 stationed in the Solomon Islands during WWII. The action packed adventures included plenty of Corsair on Zero aerial action, both simulated and archive footage of the real thing.
Later seasons were renamed The Black Sheep Squadron.
This edition does include English SDH subtitles.
Special features are absent, not even a voice over.
The transfer quality is excellent with an aspect ratio of Full Frame 1.33 to 1.
The audio is English only in Dolby digital 2.0 Mono.
The box set includes 3 discs.

The series is loosely based on the actual exploits of the late Col.Greg "Pappy" Boyington, credited with 28 "kills" during the war and winner of the Congressional Medal of Honor (CMH). A true American hero.
All in all, a fun testosterone romp.
Perhaps Universal will release Season 2 in one complete package next go around. And a voice over by one of the actors or producers would be a welcome edition.

The Wild Wild West - The Third Season (1965) Review

(More customer reviews)The third season of "The Wild Wild West" rode into town with some changes--the look of the show was spruced up a bit with new wardrobe designs for Robert Conrad's character. Although this season has less of the fantasy/science fiction elements that were a highlight of seasons one, two and we only get one episode with Dr. Loveless, it was still a stellar season with top notch writing and direction. We had some memorable guest stars including Michael Dunn (Dr. Loveless), Robert Duvall and Nick Adams.
Season four is tentatively set for March 18, 2008.

The Night of the Death MakerThe third season had less episodes as well 24 compared to the 28 for seasons one and two. The show's level of action sequences--which had always been high--reached a peak during season three which put the show on the radar for a group that protested the level of violence in the show. The result was that with middling ratings and conflict over the high level of action in the show, "The Wild Wild West" was not renewed after the fourth season.
This set comes without extras although the show looks terrific. It would have been nice to have a featurette on the show's production. At least we get a terrific looking presentation for the show.

(More customer reviews)Witness if you will the fourth (1968-1969) and final season of "The Wild Wild West", still produced by Bruce Lansbury and that continues his updated and rugged treatment of the series with the paranoid political tales: "The Night of the Doomsday Formula" (guest starring Kevin McCarthy as the fanatical General Kroll) and "The Night of the Pistoleros" showing a future nations' conflict triggered by Mexican look-alikes of American military officers.
You will meet James West's new partners because Artemus Gordon is sent to Washington: secret agent/master of disguises Jeremy Pike (played by Charles Aidman) in four episodes ("The Night of the Camera", "The Night of Miguelito's Revenge" that is the last Dr. Loveless' offering, "The Night of the Pelican", "The Night of the Janus" that is Charles Aidman's best performance as Baron Klaus Esterhauser and in which we catch a glimpse of James West's training academy), secret agent/master of disguises Frank Harper (played by William Schallert) in the two parter "The Night of the Winged Terror", and chemist/agent Ned Brown (played by Alan Hale Jr) in the gloomy "The Night of the Sabatini Death".
Moreover, we will again foray into the off-centered and the macabre fantasies as the Hammer Productions-like "The Night of the Sedgewick Curse" dealing with the theme of the fountain of youth, the tribute to the classic "The Phantom of the Opera" in "The Night of the Diva" (Robert Conrad even sings "Buffalo Gals" with his friends Richard Cangey and Red West) and a veiled reference to Conan Doyle's "The Hound of the Baskervilles" in "The Night of the Bleak Island", and two Jules Verne-oriented ones in "The Night of the Kraken" (which highlights a Captain Nemo type of character) and "The Night of the Winged Terror, Part I & II" (describing a secret organization of subversive mad scientists ruled by a hypercephalic mastermind).
One episode, directed in late season 3, depicts Robert Conrad's tragic fall while performing his stunt: "The Night of the Fugitives" (guest starring Simon Oakland).

Centennial: The Complete Series Review

As a middle school social studies instructor, I can say that Americana is on display in its most enticing format here! The acting is as superb as the actors are familiar! Star after star makes us forget whatever role they played on televison, and remember them for their characterization in Centennial! This is the highest compliment to a film-maker's casting director and producer!
The cast IS exceptional--especially Conrad, Chamberlain, and that old Detroit Lion lineman Alex 'Brumbaugh' Karas! Honestly, having seen this epic four times, I have often wanted to just sit right through all 20+ hours consecutively; it really does grow on you! I can never forget the 'Wendells' every time I hear 'Whispering Hope', and just watching that last half hour's flashback sequence accompanied by 'Guess He'd Rather be in Colorado' still gives me goose bumps!
I enjoyed this epic so much in fact, that while in Colorado in 1993, I tried to locate the town of Centennial. I noticed many familiar landmarks, crossed the Platte River, but of course, found no Centennial town--only the cafe.
I can only say that if one loves the history and drama of the American West and has not seen this chronicle--from Robert Conrad's trip downstream at the beginning, to David Janson's reflective retrospection by the lonely railroad tracks at the consclusion, one has NOT fully seized upon all that Hollywood can contribute to learning about our great country.
Thank you Clay Basket, Levi Zendt, Hans Brumbaugh, R.J. Poteet, Lame Beaver...though fictitious, you made learning come alive for us! And a special thanks to the production company of 'Centennial'!
"...only the rocks live forever".

The Rockford Files - Season Five Review

(More customer reviews)Season Five continued the fine writing and impeccible acting that defined The Rockford Files as one of televisions best ever offerings.
In addition, this season has some fantastic guest stars: Rita Moreno, Bo Hopkins, Tom Selleck, Abe Vigoda, Robert Loggia, Jason Evers, Robert Alda, Kathryn Harrold, Mary Fran, Erin Gray, Ted Shackelford, Paul Koslo, Dennis Dugan and Harold Gould to name just a few.
A few of my favorite episodes from this season include:
White on White and nearly Perfect - Wherein Jim works with Lance White (Tom Selleck), a goody two shoes Detective who always comes up smelling like a rose, usually at Rockford's expense.
Black Mirror - A two parter where Jim protects and falls in love with a blind psychologist played by the scrumptious Kathryn Harrold.
A Different Drummer - A strange but absorbing tale that has Rockford on the trail of a sociopath who is harvesting organs from live donors.
