(More customer reviews)Although the actual DVD set isn't out as of the time I write this, the 4th season finished airing months ago and now since they have the page for pre-order up, I've been kinda itching to write a review.
Well as this season starts off from the 3rd season cliffhanger, it is definately off to an awesome start. Atlantis lost, adrift in space and running out of power. To conserve energy, they shrink the shield down to a small section of the city and then what happens?...Atlantis runs into an asteroid belt! Then to get more power, they actually raid the Asuran homeworld for ZPM's using Dr. Weir! A very entertaining beginning.
While the majority of episodes are hits, such as the episode where a disease causes everyone to lose their memories(Tabula Rasa) or the one where Teal'c comes for a visit(Midway); there are some that fall short of their potential for giving more or are just plain boring! For example: the end-season cliffhanger! This is the first time I've ever been disappointed with an Atlantis cliffhanger, not leaving me anxiously curious to see how they get out of that situation, waiting for the next season. It ends with Sheppard and his team searching a building for Teyla, but it self-destructs and collapses in on them. (Zzzzzz...you know they survive it) A better way to end the season would have been to leave Sheppard stranded 48,000 years in the future, revealing more about what happened in the galaxy in all that time and trying to figure out a way to get back home with the McKay hologram's original plan failing to work! Now that sounds like one hell of a cliffhanger!
I reviewed season 3 as well, saying it gives potential for an awesome season 4. Does it live up to that potential? It comes close, but unfortunately no it doesn't. Why? It just seems like the shows creators/writers aren't willing to go all the way in some of the episode's stories. For that matter, I can't figure out what direction the show is headed in anymore; can you? (I assume the show IS going in some direction)
At least this time around they gave more attention to the Wraith and to Teyla. The whole story arc with the Athosian people being kidnapped and Teyla's search for them, both expanded, and renewed some interest, in her character. In my season 3 review I also stated my favorite character is McKay, but even I am starting to get tired of seeing him so much in every episode.
Dr. Weir was officially lost this season, then killed, then...kinda came back? But fortunately we regained some old faces. Dr. Beckett (or at least a clone) came back at an end of the season episode. And while I liked having Samantha Carter as the Atlantis commander, just like Dr. Weir in season 3, they didn't utilize her character enough!
Which leads us to season 5. SPOILERS AHEAD! I've read various sources about what season 5 of Atlantis will have instore for us fans & veiwers, and most have been confirmed. The biggy for me being that Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping) will NOT be back as Atlantis' commander. (Due to the fact she'll be staring in her own show, "Sanctuary".) But she will come back for some guest appearances. Who's replacing her? Richard Woolsey (Robert Picardo)! I have completely mixed feelings about his character, but he definately doesn't have what it takes to command Atlantis! So unless he grows a pair and proves himself as something other than a cowering beaurocrat, this alone makes me uncertain about season 5 as well as the future of the show. Dr. Beckett and Dr. Daniel Jackson will guest star in some episodes, as well as 2 new characters and an entirely new race being introduced.
Don't get me wrong, I still really like Atlantis and am going to get the season 4 DVD once it's released, but I must say this is the first time I am uncertain about how the next season will take shape, or if it will even be any good? Let's just hope season 5 will prove me wrong!
The season 4 DVD set itself will have the usual: commentaries, deleted scenes, etc. However, this will be the first Atlantis season DVD that will have a bloopers reel.
**UPDATE: Well, Season 4 came out today, I've got it and am watching it right now. Physical DVD-wise, the video and sound is still great like seasons 2 & 3. Packaging is the same as well. The menus are different from seasons 2 & 3 DVD's, but are still cool-looking and are easy to navigate. (You don't have to go through a lot of submenus to get what you are looking for.) Hope this latest info helps anyone!

(More customer reviews)Before I begin I would like to point out that this review and star rating is for this set and its packaging ONLY. The show itself is great and would get a 7 out of 5 stars from me, but before your mouth starts watering over the "Collector's Edition", hear me out.
Pros: The outside package and photos used are nice and add something you wouldn't get by buying the seasons individually. The episodes "Vegas" and "Enemy at the Gate" come in both the extended versions and broadcast versions. There is a bonus disc that has two featurettes that come only with this Complete Series set.
Cons: Where do I begin? I was appalled to find some of the discs were scratched and has smudges on them (most notably the season one discs and the bonus disc). One disc had errors, even though there were no apparent scratches on it. The 26 disc are divided up into seasons, and those individual seasons are housed in thick glossy paper with slits in it for the discs. The discs are supposed to be held in by rubber knobs... it was very hard to get the discs onto these knobs, and when you pulled a disc off of one, sometimes little pieces of the knob would come off with it and the knob would often smudge the disc. The Season One folder would ALWAYS catch on a tab just inside the packaging when you pull out the "drawer" to get a disc (a way around this is to lay down the season one folder on it's side; the rest can stay upright).
Although this isn't really a pro or con, I was a little disappointed that they reused the discs put into the individual season sets. The discs still mention the volume numbers, which don't apply in the complete set; this is confusing to some. I thought they (the people who designed this) would take more pride in their product than they apparently did.
So, to summarize, Stargate Atlantis is a great show that everyone should see and consider investing into all five seasons... but you'll need to be a very patient and sympathetic person to be satisfied with this set.
P.S. - This isn't an isolated incident... I put in an order for an exchange and the new set had almost identical problems. (It should be noted that, as of yet, Amazon has been good to work with.)

(More customer reviews)Yes this show isn't SG-1 and sadly some people can't seem to get pass that. The show is different enough from Sg-1 that it can hold its own and not be considered a rip-off or a clone yet retain the same Stargate feel that SG-1 has. This show is actually what rekindled my interest in the Stargate franchise, you've got characters that actually aren't perfect, that make mistakes and are easy to relate to. There mostly ordinary people in an extraordinary situation where they slowly come togethor and become a family of sorts. The strength of this show is the character development, which actually is even more noticeable in the second season but the first season does a pretty good job. Probably the best episodes story wise are Before I Sleep and Letter from Pegasus which are perhaps the best clip show episodes ive seen in the Stargate franchise.
If you can accept that this show isn't actually SG-1 and really we don't need two Sg-1's bcse we already have one, try this show out, you might enjoy it. The show has fun,attractive and real characters that actually grow and change and there is reasonable continuity theoughout the season which is important to you if you don't like shows that you leave you guessing for a long time.

(More customer reviews)The second season of Stargate Atlantis begins on an adrenaline high with the third and final part of Season One's "The Siege" and the action doesn't end with the season opener. One character departs the show as a regular to make room for model, turned bad-boy, Jason Momoa, who plays Ronon Dex, a Wraith Runner; while a new group of the Atlantis Expedition arrives from Earth aboard the newest ship in the fleet, the Daedelus. This season, helped by the amazing chemistry of the cast, shows its maturity early with story lines that can be enjoyed as separate episodes while giving die-hard fans a well thought out story arc involving the Wraith, Ancients and other interesting discoveries from the Pegasus Galaxy.
Overall Atlantis has not only met fan's expectations but has slowly exceeded its parent series, Stargate SG-1. If you're a fan of the Stargate Movie and haven't seen an episode of SG-1 I highly recommend buying the first nine seasons on DVD before jumping through the gate to Atlantis, however any fan of Sci-Fi would covet these Atlantis DVD sets.

(More customer reviews)I have watched only 3 of 10 seasons so far & have 5 disc that skip/freeze during playback. After problems with first couple of discs, I inspected the entire set & found at least 15 discs that are dirty, scratched over entire surface or deeply pitted. This did not happen during shipping- they came from the Factory like this. Definitely not something you expect to find in NEW DVDs. So please inspect your set ASAP before time runs out to request a replacement/refund from Amazon. I have requested a replacement today and hopefully this set will be in good condition.

(More customer reviews)Stargate Infinity is an animated television series produced for children as a spin-off from the popular science fiction series Stargate SG-1 (a series based on the 1994 film Stargate). The cartoon never found its audience and was canceled after one season.
The writers and producers of Stargate SG-1 and the main canon of the Stargate franchise were not involved with Infinity, and neither MGM (producers of the Stargate franchise), the production teams nor the fans of Stargate consider Infinity to be an official part of the Stargate universe.
The Stargate is an alien device discovered in Egypt, in 1928. Its purpose is to create wormholes to similar devices across the universe, allowing near instantaneous travel to distant planets and galaxies. Stationed at Stargate Command ("the SGC"), a top-secret military base located inside Cheyenne Mountain, teams of explorers (know as SG teams typically assigned numerical designations like "SG-1" "SG-3" "SG-12" etc) go on missions through the Stargate to find new technology and make allies to help defend Earth from alien threats.
Stargate Infinity is set 30 years after the Tau'ri (which literally means "the first ones" or "those of the first world" in the language of the alien race known as the Goa'uld) first used the Stargate. According to this show, by this time the Stargate has become public knowledge, and some aliens have become citizens of Earth.
In this series, a veteran member of the SGC, Major Gus Bonner, leads a team of young recruits through the gate after being framed by an alien infiltrator from a hostile race known as the Tlak'kahn (the Goa'uld having long since been defeated; this was written years before their defeat was even conceived on SG-1 TV series). The team must travel from world to world until they find the evidence to clear their names. While on their adventures, they learn many things about unique cultures in the galaxy as well as themselves.
Because the series was canceled before it's 2nd season, this plot arch was never resolved.
The show often featured an educational comment or summary about the moral lessons learned during the course of an episode.
