(More customer reviews)Mexico's biggest male actor, Fernando Colunga, who is considered by some to be the Mel Gibson of the Spanish world, stars in this beautifully done story about true love, betrayal, revenge but above all, romance. At the beginning of this 7 month long novela, Eduardo (Fernando Colunga) and Fernanda (Silvia Navaro) are two young children who's life-long friendship had slowly developed into thier first love. Fernanda, the youngest of three siblings belonged to the wealthy soceity, living out in the beautiful Mexcian country side in a mansion that consisted of several nursermaids and personal servants, one of whom was Eduardo's widowed mother Soledad. It was a very happy family; but unknown to them all, a dark cloud of consipracy and revenge was looming over the horizon and it would forever shatter the lives of everyone, including Eduardo and Soledad.
One day a beautiful young woman named "Barbara Greco" arrived to become the personal assisstant of Monserat, Fernanda's mother. When Fernanda's first communion was celebrated, Eduardo had sceretly given her a necklace which consisted of a heart, and the letters "F E". Fernanda asked Eduardo what that meant, and he explained it was the first letter of both thier names. It was then that they kissed for the first time. Unfortunately, Barbara happed to be standing by and in a fury, took Fernanda away by the hand and informed her father that Eduardo had tried to "take advantage" of her. Infuriated, Fernanda's mother forbided any contact. But becuase Soledad had worked for the family since before Eduardo was born, Fernanda's father offers to finace Eduardo's education in the United States so that he may have "a better and secure future." Heart broken, Soldedad agreed that her son would be better off getting the education that she lacked all of her life. As the city bus took Eduardo away, a weeeping Fernanda arrived too late to say good bye. Eduardo heard her cries and ran to the back of the bus, sadly waving as his childhood sweetheart ran after the bus in a vain attempt to reach him.
Shortly thereafter, Fernanda's mother, who's asthematic, falls severly ill and Barbara was instructed to take care of her. Liliana, Fernanda's only sister, happened to pick up the phone and hear a converstation between Barbara and a very deep-voiced individual at the end of the line instructing Barbara to kill thier mother. Barbara however heard a noise at the other end of the line and ran upstairs where she fould Liliana listening. Barbara locked Liliana inside her bedroom while she proceeded with the orders to finish off Lily's mother. When the father of the houshold arrrived, Barbara informed him that Liliana had gone mad and suffocated her mother because she was caught with drugs in her bedroom. At first he did not believe it, but when he searched Liliana's bedroom, he found drug pills resting on top of her dresser. Shocked, Liliana cried that she did not place them there and that Barbara had killed her mother. Soledad, Eduardo's mother believed Liliana that Barbara had killed her mother and when she confronted Barbara, her life was threatened. Tragically, Liliana was placed in a mental hospital where she would be held for the next 15 years, during which time her father eventually married Barbara Greco.
Upon his return to Mexico, Eduardo was devastated by the news that Fernanda was engaged. Even more heartbreaking, was the fact his mother was gravely ill and no longer working for Fernanda's father. Penniless and alone, Soledad's health had declined over the years. Edurado mananged to see her one last time before she died. Full of rage and sense of betrayal by Fernanda and her family, he vowed to seek revenege for the death of his mother, who had done so much for them all, only to be outcasted and separated from him. During a visit from Barbara to Soledad's house, Eduardo overheard her and his childhood friend speaking, during which she inquired about Soldedad's health. When informed that she was deceased, Barbara instructed that "the old hag" be buried as soon as possible, without informing ANYONE, not even Eduardo. It was then that Eduardo slowly began to realize that he and his mother has been a part of some conspiracy. But as he would latter learn, the conspriacy involved Fernanda and her entire family as well. This once sweet romantic story now takes a dark turn, becoming "an eye for an eye." Barbara's dark "source" instructed her to take Fernanda's family and bankrupt them, thus tearing them apart one by one and destroying thier lives. Who is Barbara Greco really? Where did she come from? Who is behind the secret plot to destroy an entire family and why? Will Eduardo and Fernanda ever have the chance to find love in one another again? Find out in this exciting story FULL of twists and plots at very turn.
PS I believe this was Lucero's first appearance as a ruthless villian. For those of you who don't know, Lucero is one of Mexico's biggest stars. She is ramarkably talented in both singing and acting; in the past she played the heroine or the woman in distress, but as Barbara Greco, its Lucero at her best performance yet!
