Scott (Officer Kilvinsky) delivers one of his best performances as a veteran patrolman of the L.A.P.D. He teaches a rookie cop "Stacy Keach" how to survive on the streets of L.A. Erik Estrada plays a former gang banger that turned cop, only to find himself working patrol in his old stomping grounds. The realism was great. No doubt they used police advisors when making the film. A sad movie that will make you realize that cops are human. Kilvinsky the cynical cop, shows compassion in dealing with illegal Mexican immigrants that are being taken advantage of by a money grubbing landlord. Stacy Keach suffers a failed marriage and gets involved in an interracial relationship. Truly a gut wrenching movie that shows the brutality of police work, both mentally and physically. I'd pay a hundred dollars if I could get the movie on DVD.

Lost: The Complete Second Season Review

(More customer reviews)As a die hard Lost fan from the Season 1 debut, I have been a bit shocked to hear so many negative things about Season 2. The mystery of the island went much deeper and the season actually answered more questions than the first, while still whetting our appetite for more. I would love to see some loose ends tied up, but that is what makes people keep watching. Those who abandoned the show because of too many questions obviously don't have the patience required for a show such as this. In our "quick fix, gotta have it" society, it is refreshing to know that there is actually a show that will not simply give us questions and answers but an acutal story with strong characters and an intriguing plot. I cannot wait for Season 3 to premiere.

Heroes: Season 1 Review

(More customer reviews)The show is great...watched it on DVD once already. But I'm very disappointed in the supposed Blu-ray quality of the discs. Scenes are granulated and few scenes are truly Blu-ray'd out. They were so much more expensive, but you can just about get the same quality on DVD...certainly not enough of an upgrade to justify the price increase.

(More customer reviews)I guess the negative feedback from customers on the first season DVD set didn't faze Sony/Columbia-Tristar one bit. Again, no original music and the transfer is awful. The picture most of the time is grainy and I even noticed the audio track doesn't match characters lips at times. There are VHS tapes out there with better quality picture and sound than this. Sony should be ashamed to release trash like this. The only thing giving this set even 2 stars is the content of the series itself. It still remains a great groundbreaking sereies, but these DVD sets have much to be desired. This series and everyone involved in it's production along with the diehard fans deserve much better than this. Just as an example of how much Sony/CTSE care about this sereies and how much effort they put into these DVD sets, take a close look at the cover photo for season two. If you know anything about the show, or the military for that matter, you will notice that the MAC-V insignia patch is on the wrong shoulder of everyone in the photo, also look closely at the U.S. ARMY strip on Ramon Franco's (Ruiz)right chest and the Devlin name tape on Kim Delaney's (Alex) left chest. See anything wrong? Yeah, that's right, they printed the negative backwards. Gee, they spent alot of time on this one. Hey, Sony, do us all a favor and sell the rights to this series to someone who will spend the time, effort and money to do this great series the justice it deserves.

The Poseidon Adventure Review

(More customer reviews)Ever felt you been here before and yet not...Deja vu, right? NO, it's a bad remake of a classic disaster film.
32 years later, Hallmark Entertainment tries to do a mini series of the Poseidon with modern day updates. Instead of a tidal wave, it is a bomb that inverts the ship upside down. The cop character is now a homeland security agent (Adam Baldwin) dragging a terrorist through the wreckage of the ship to justice. The priest is now a Bishop (Rutger Hauer). The Red Button character from the first movie, now played by Bryan Brown, is now married to singer, an International Idol pop star. The smart kid from the first film is now a junior Speilburg with a video cam that never runs out of battery life. The young girl (Pamela Sue Martin character in the first film) is now the daughter of Steve Guttenberg, a cheating family man who is headed for divorce. Peter Weller is the Captain who character name is the same as the original book's author (Paul Gallico)...a nice touch! You can not fault the actors, they do the best they can with this material..one would blame the script writer who could not make this chestnut revised without treading too close of repeating the deepness of the original
There are a few additions to the remake that does not make this sail any better. Alex (ER) Kingston is a sort of federal international rescue head, the role seem so added at the last minute. A ship's doctor (C. Thomas Howell) who reminds me of DR Bricker from Love Boat.
However, this watered down soap opera is not better than the original in a longer form...in many ways it drags down the audience in this watered down version. In someways, it seem like a LOVE BOAT episode with dramatic melodrama and adventure added in the mix. If you saw the first, most of the same things happen with few changes. The last shot is the ship sinking..THANK GOD NO SEQUAL!
So you want that sinking feeling again, get the originally 1972 film with Gene Hackman, Red Button, Shelly Winters, Ernest Borgnine and Stella Stevens. The Poseidon Adventure (Special Edition). However This remake misses the epic adventure mark by miles.

Creepshow (2009) Review

(More customer reviews)Being a fan of both Stephen King and George Romero, "Creepshow" has always been among my favorite horror flicks. Campy at times perhaps, but that's the whole point - to bring a comic book feel to film. And it offers a perfect balance of silly comic horror and genuine horror, making for a very enjoyable viewing experience if one remembers not to take it too seriously.
What you get is 5 mini stories, some of them better than others but all offering plenty of shocks and chills. It opens with "Father's Day," where a deceased victim of murder rises from the grave for a nice little Father's Day surprise. One of the better ones. "The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill" follows, where Stephen King takes on the lead role as a hillbilly who finds a meteor with a nasty habit of making green hair grow on, well, everything. This one is more funny than scary but still good. King does a great job as the clumsy and unintelligent-but-likeable Jordy Verrill. Next up is "Something to Tide You Over," where a vengeful man (Leslie Nielsen) gets even on his cheating wife and her lover (Ted Danson) by burying them both in the sand and letting the tide take care of the rest. This is my second favorite of the bunch. It's cool to see Nielsen take on the role of the "bad guy" for a change. Goes to show his versatility as an actor. Ted Danson is great too. What follows is "The Crate," in my opinion the best one. It's also the longest one. Hal Holbrook plays a loser whose nasty wife gets what she deserves when he finds a mysterious blood-thirsty creature locked away in an old crate. This is the darkest and creepiest of the stories. Pure fun, with top-notch acting from everyone. The final story, "They're Creeping Up On You," is the only one I've never liked. An eccentric millionare with a roach phobia just can't seem to get rid of his little crawling friends no matter what he does. Anyone who doesn't like roaches is advised to skip this one. The final scene will take away your appetite for at least a few days.
Now that I've talked about the movie itself (easily 5 stars), I have to comment on this sorry excuse for a DVD (0 stars). This has to be THE worst transfer ever put on DVD. I used to think it couldn't get any worse than the first edition single-disc transfer of "Scarface," but I was wrong. "Creepshow" was put on DVD just for the sake of putting it on DVD. NO CARE whatsoever was put into presentation. As another reviewer has mentioned, the movie literally "jumps" throughout the entire time. Grain and those annoying "hairs" appear on the screen almost every second. The VHS offers better picture quality; that says a lot. The only bonus feature of this DVD is the trailer, which I suppose is cool, but let's get real. Another slap in the face is the scene selections. The inside of the DVD case advertises 41 scene selections in the "Scene Index" card, but that's misleading, as the movie only has 21 actual scene selections. So if you want to watch one specific scene, 9 times out of 10 you will need to select the *closest* scene to the one you want and end up scanning forwards or backwards to get to the one you really want. Yet another example of a poorly thought-out DVD.
Bottom line: "Creepshow" is a great cult flick that deserves a MUCH better DVD. If you have the VHS stick with that. Only get this DVD if you no longer own a VCR or absolutely must own all of your movies on the DVD format. "Creepshow 2" recently got a new DVD edition that does it justice, so maybe there's some hope that "Creepshow" will eventually get the same treatment someday. Until then, we must settle for this lackluster DVD.

(More customer reviews)First off, let me say that I think some people are blowing this whole music thing way out of proportion. I have copies of some of the original Tour of Duty shows on tape, as aired on TV. All the original Tour of Duty instrumental music (including the shows instrumental theme song) is still here, and still the same. Only the professional, licensed artist music is missing. In place of that music, is more instrumental music that very often fits in and compliments the mood and feel of this great show. Some of the added music isn't all that bad either. Sure, some may not be as great as some of the missing period bit songs. But if you look at it closely, you might find that the show now has a more concentrated feel to it and lets you think more about what's going on in front of the camera and what the actors are doing, instead of grooving with popular tunes. It actually is a step up in the realism department in some ways. This does not mean I don't care about the missing music, just that it has its good points as well. For the people who only just care about the missing music, they need to learn some of the lessons taught within the show itself...
The fact is, that Tour of Duty was an incredible show, with fantastic acting, good writing, and great crew work. A lot of sweat and pain obviously went into it and it still stands as a great testimony to being one of, if not the greatest, war series ever to be filmed. They provided not only a record of insight into the Vietnam War, but into humanity.
