The New Centurions Review

The New Centurions

This movie inspired me to a law enforcement career that lasted 28 years. George C. Scott (Officer Kilvinsky) delivers one of his best performances as a veteran patrolman of the L.A.P.D. He teaches a rookie cop "Stacy Keach" how to survive on the streets of L.A. Erik Estrada plays a former gang banger that turned cop, only to find himself working patrol in his old stomping grounds. The realism was great. No doubt they used police advisors when making the film. A sad movie that will make you realize that cops are human. Kilvinsky the cynical cop, shows compassion in dealing with illegal Mexican immigrants that are being taken advantage of by a money grubbing landlord. Stacy Keach suffers a failed marriage and gets involved in an interracial relationship. Truly a gut wrenching movie that shows the brutality of police work, both mentally and physically. I'd pay a hundred dollars if I could get the movie on DVD.

CHiPs: The Complete First & Second Seasons Review

The pilot episode of the hour-long drama series CHiPs premiered on the NBC-TV network on 9/15/77. Between then and 5/3/83 (six seasons), a total of 139 chapters aired, making this one of the most successful of TV cop shows.
Set in Los Angeles, it's the adventures of motorcycle officers Joe Baker (Larry Wilcox) and Francis Llewellyn 'Ponch' Poncherello (Erik Estrada). Amazingly, these guys hardly ever unholstered their sidearms, no matter what trouble arose.
Other regular cast members for seasons #1 and #2: Robert Pine as Sgt. Joseph Getraer, Paul Linke as Officer Arthur Grossman, Brodie Greer as Officer Barry Baricza and Lew Saunders as Officer Gene Fritz.
Numerous comic actor "walk-ons" give these 45 episodes a light touch in spots: Jackie Vernon, Phyllis Diller, Jim Backus, Shelley Berman, Tom Poston, Richard Deacon, Carl Ballantine, Rudy Vallee, Alice Ghostley, Danny Bonaduce, Alan Sues and Jack Carter. In addition are cameos from: Troy Donahue, Regis Philbin, Broderick Crawford, Edward James Olmos, Ned Glass, Guy Stockwell, Markie Post, Ken Kercheval, Mary Crosby, Tige Andrews and ex-footballers Rosey Grier and Ben Davidson. (Note: the lion's share of these guest spots occur in Season One.)Related item:
The drama series, EMERGENCY! was a contemporary of "CHiPs." Both shows often dealt with highway accidents. FOR COMPLETE PROGRAM LIST, INCLUDING EPISODE TITLES, ORIGINAL AIRDATES AND

Where the rubber meets the road and the bad guys meet the badge -- that's where you'll find California Highway Patrol motorcycle officers Jon (Larry Wilcox) and Ponch (Erik Estrada). Set in the sun-drenched sprawl of Los Angeles, CHiPs combines action, heroics and fun in 22 Season One episodes whose event-packed storylines range from freeway gridlock (let's use a circus elephant to tow that broken-axled truck!) to wild roadway pursuits (who's that beautiful woman lead-footing a Rolls Royce?), from spilled onions (crying time, fellas) to pure venom (an overturned van loaded with...sssnakes!).
