Christmas Do-Over (2006) Review

My family LOVES this movie! It's the first one we choose at the start of the Christmas season. I really don't understand the negative reviews. It's clean, funny, and in a beautiful setting. It's made for TV (abc family), which we like because there is more of a chance we can all watch together (parents in 40's, 10-yr-old son, and grandmother). I will admit, the DVD version is slightly different from the TV version (we liked the TV one better), but it didn't stop us from buying a copy. Give it a chance!

I've been waiting for this movie to come out on DVD. I saw it on cable and really enjoyed it. If you're looking for a movie with a good story-line, this is for you. No bad language, no sex, no violence make for a pleasing holiday movie.

First-time food critic JJ Jenner is a cute but bookish 24-year-old whose transformation from low-level magazine writer to coveted food columnist faces just one roadblock--her free-spirited, scene-stealing mother, who shows up unannounced for the holidays. Low on energy and patience, and desperate to get some work done, JJ sets her mom up with Alex, a sweet and ambitious young chef, in exchange for reviewing his struggling restaurant. When writer's block suddenly hits, JJ begins to recognize that her true feelings for Alex may be the problem. As Christmas nears, JJ learns that her mother is just as vulnerable and insecure as she is, and that love and family are worth risking everything for.Starring Carly Pope, Christine Baranski, and Bobby Cannavale.

The Christmas Card (2006) Review

The Christmas Card (2006)

I'm usually not so sappy when it comes to Christmas movies, but I loved this movie.
A beautiful woman sends Christmas cards to the troops, with pictures of her hometown. A sergeant receives one of these cards and after going on leave following a fellow soldier's death, he finds himself in Washington timber country. I loved the cute little scenes in the diner where they both find they love curly fries and the tasteful flirtations. The church scene was so nostalgic and made me want to head straight to church. The only disbelieving part was where she breaks up with her shallow fiance and he takes it so well and gentlemanly.
A Boyfriend for Christmas and Eve's Christmas are also movies I've seen recently that I'm also purchasing. Take a look at them as well.

Miss Lettie and Me (2002) Review

Miss Lettie and Me (2002)

This film was produced by the cable channel TNT and having noted that one should not expect that the result is a bonafide theatrical release, but taken for what it is MISS LETTIE & ME is great tear-jerking, holiday entertainment. Holiday films are sappy, they are supposed to be because that is why we watch... Who would watch A CHRISTMAS CAROL if Scrooge made no kind of transformation?
MISS LETTIE AND ME is the story of a family that is brought together by the unwanted intrusion of a young girl who needs to be wanted almost as badly as her great aunt needs to be needed. The players here are comfortable and in good form. Mary Tyler Moore and Burt Reynolds head up a talented cast and make a nice Christmas themed movie for the whole family.

Enjoyed the story until fiance found in bed with another man. Definitely not appropriate for a "family" holiday movie. Enough said.

Comfort and Joy (2003) Review

Comfort and Joy (2003)

As soon as I heard Lifetime would release the movie "Comfort and Joy" DVD I jumped at the chance to own it! I already loved the movie and I wanted to add to my growing Christmas-themed movie collection.
The story stars Nancy McKeon as Jane Berry, a woman who gets the chance to live another life-- the life as a wife and mother, the self-described "New and improved Jane" after crashing her Jaguar into a post and generally being confused about her new identity.
It's a heartwarming romantic comedy set amongst the backdrop of the Christmas season. Jane's husband, Sam played by Steven Eckholdt does a fantastic job in his role.
Another delight of the movie was Dixie Carter bringing spunk to the role of Jane's mother Frederica. Other noteworthy performances are by Paul Dooley (Jane's father) and of course, the children.
The DVD version features a twenty-two minute featurette with cast interviews on topics ranging from destiny to holiday movies to dysfunctional family situations during the holidays.
Highly recommended for anyone looking for a fun movie that'll put a smile on your face.

Jane Berry (Nancy McKeon) was a high-powered, single career woman before being knocked unconscious in a car accident on Christmas Eve. When she wakes up, shes told that shes a married stay-at-home mom with two children. After spending time with her family, Jane finds that she likes the loving wife and mother she has become, though she has no recollection of how she got there. The LIFETIME Original Movie COMFORT AND JOY also stars Steven Eckholdt as Janes husband, and Dixie Carter as her feisty mother, Frederica, who is constantly meddling in her daughter s life.
