The Wedding Date (Widescreen Edition) (2005) Review

While the plot may seem implausible, I really enjoyed this movie. Since I love all types of movies (documentary, action, comedy, drama, etc.), I saw this movie for what it was...an enjoyable way to spend some time. If you are looking for light-hearted entertainment that doesn't require you to think, then this movie fits the bill. Dermot Mulroney is great as the suave date bought by Debra Messing's character. And Messing shines as the woman who blossoms during her courtship with her date. And for those who think she's too beautiful to need to buy a date, they haven't seen the many beautiful single women of the world. Not all movies are meant to be deep and thought-provoking, some are just meant to make you smile...and this movie delivers.

This is a little bit review and lot more information. I waited at the video store and ran in when it opened at 10:00am and grabbed my copy of this DVD. I've been a fan for years, so I couldn't believe they FINALLY got around to releasing Season One!!
Here's the scoop on the DVDs:
First of all, the DVD packaging is VERY WELL done. It's a multiple fold-out, single piece case and has each character depicted on one of the four discs. The still photos on the inside let us remember some of the funnier scenes. Each disc has the episode name, air date and a brief description of the episode. NBC, Komut Entertainment and 3 Sisters should be VERY proud of the presentation.

You must forget Will & Grace when you watch the Starter Wife. Kiss Grace goodbye, this aint her. Messing shows how she can take the lead and keep this mini series moving. She plays an ex-wife of a Hollywood studio boss starts her life after her divorce
The supporting cast of Judy Davis, Joe Mantegna, Anika Noni Rose (Dreamgirls), and Peter Jacobson (Transformers & the Lost Room)mesh with Messing. Mantegna best scene is hom in drag-DONT MISS IT
On the whole, the mini series, which is based upon the novel by Hollywood Wife Gigi Levangie Grazer, the wife of Producer/director Brian Grazer, is a great story. It ranks up there will Jackie Collins's Hollywood series of books and movies

Will & Grace: The Complete Series Review

Will and Grace: The Complete Series

Another issue that has not been mentioned is that last few seasons were broadcast in WIDESCREEN, and the season sets or the complete series only have the full screen version. Why Lionsgate, why? Getting only the syndicated versions with severe cuts, the lack of the additional West Coast live episodes and these picture format changes are cheating us out of the truly complete DVD experience.
The UK version of the Complete Series set (available from Amazon UK for quite some time) had additional scenes or lines of dialogue deleted because it was marketed for getting the Age 15 and upward rating... it looks like the only decent version of these season sets as well as the complete series (real broadcast episodes, widescreen format for the last seasons) are available in Europe (particularly in Holland/Belgium) and Australia (with Region 2 and 4 encoding). I ordered my complete series for about the same price as the US complete set from an Australian retailer.

Ned and Stacey - The Complete First Season (1995) Review

Ned and Stacey - The Complete First Season (1995)

If you like Will and Grace, then you are sure to enjoy this sitcom that played for two seasons in the mid-90s. My roommate and I were obsessed with this show during college. I was actually very surprised and excited to see it come out on DVD considering it was never hugely popular. That's one of the sad things about television today...the truly good shows like Ned and Stacey are overlooked while drivel like Life According to Jim last multiple seasons.
The premise of Ned and Stacey is simple. Ned marries Stacey to get a job promotion, and Stacey marries Ned so she can have a place to live and move out of her parent's house. The catch is they barely know each other, and what they do know of each other, they don't particularly care for. They are both allowed to date other people as long as they are discreet and don't let certain people know about the 'arranged' marriage...namely Ned's co-waorkers and Stacey's parents(who incidentally adore Ned and Ned them which leads to a very humorous episode). Stacey's sister and brother-in-law(Ned's best friend and co-worker) know of the arrangement and make some humorous sidekicks for Ned and Stacey.
What truly makes this show great is the chemistry between Debra Messing and Thomas Haden Church who play Stacey and Ned, respectively. They just play off each other beautifully. Granted, they argue most of the time which leads to many humorous moments, but they do get along in their own way...sometimes. This show is not about a couple who hate each other...as Ned and Stacey definitely don't hate each other. It's more about personality-clash in close living-quarters. Ned is a neat though sometimes morally-ambigious character while Stacey is a slob who likes to think of herself as morally-superior...Ned often throws this in her face mocking how such a moral person could ever get involved in a 'fake' marriage.
Anywho, this was definitely my favorite sitcom of the 90s. I was highly disappointed when it was cancelled am ecstatic to see it out on DVD. I can't wait until the second season and last season comes out.

What happens when two people hate each other at first sight? They get married, of course, in "Ned & Stacey," the fast and funny, shotgun marriage-of-convenience sitcom from the producers of "The King of Queens" starring Academy Award nominee Thomas Haden Church (Best Supporting Actor, "Sideways," 2004) and Emmy Award winner Debra Messing ("Will and Grace"). Ned Dorsey (Church) is a pompous advertising executive who needs a wife to get promoted. Stacey Colbert (Messing) is a ditzy freelance writer desperate to move away from her parents. So what happens one week after these strangers meet? They become in-name-only newlyweds with a great new job and a terrific view of Central Park. This three-disc DVD set includes all 24 hilarious episodes.
