Trilogy of Terror (Special Edition) (1975) Review

(More customer reviews)This very good three-part 1970s-era TV movie is a veritable cornucopia of talent. Based on stories by well-known genre author Richard Matheson and directed by Dan Curtis of DARK SHADOWS fame, this film boasts Karen Black (EASY RIDER; FIVE EASY PIECES; THE GREAT GATSBY) in four separate roles, with two teleplays scripted by William F. Nolan (co-author of the famous novel LOGAN'S RUN) and one--the best of the lot--scripted by Matheson. Also appearing in supporting roles are well-known actors George Gaynes and Gregory Harrison.
Story one, "Julie," is an intentionally ambiguous witchcraft tale in which Black portrays a bookish college professor who isn't quite what she seems. The story contains some very subtle rape and S&M innuendo, and there is a fun little twist to the ending. "Millicent and Therese," the second offering, is the weakest of the lot. Although Black does a fine job in the dual role of bickering "sisters," the audience can see the ending coming from miles away. The final and strongest of the three stories, "Amelia," is based on Matheson's famous short-story "Prey" about a voodoo fetish doll that comes to life and hunts down a woman in her midtown apartment. The ending to this one is very creepy.
All in all, TRILOGY OF TERROR is a worthy little horror flick. Though it is a TV movie á la 1975 and therefore suffers from some of the low-budget production qualities common to such, it certainly offers some fun moments of dark humor and a few genuine scares. The print used to make the DVD has some noticeable scratches and spots that could've been cleaned up digitally, but it's still definitely worth the price of admission.

Everybody Loves Raymond: The Complete Ninth Season (2004) Review

(More customer reviews)Everybody Loves Raymond: Complete Ninth Season marks the end of this excellent television series. Fortunately, we are able to enjoy the series over and over again on DVD. This season somehow kept things as fun and fresh as the first 8 seasons. How the series was able to maintain its excellence for such a long period of time is a testament to the great cast. The interplay between the actors is excellent and it is difficult to remember that these people are really not related. It is also rather sad to watch the final episodes as Peter Boyle's health was waning. In spite of this, he was still great in the show. This season features the following episodes. Ironic that the last two shows were as strong as any in the series. My only complaint is that there are only 16 episodes rather than the typical 22-23. But that is just a desire for more ELR.

Episode 3: Angry Sex: A fight between Marie and Debra leads to Ray and Debra's night of passion.

Episode 6: Boys' Therapy: The guys go to therapy, or do they?
Episode 7: Debra's Parents: Debra's divorced parents come for dinner.
Episode 8: A Job for Robert: Marie wants grandkids from Amy and Robert.
Episode 9: A Date for Peter: Trying to hook up Amy's Freaky brother Peter.
Episode 10: Favors: Marie blackmails Debra.
Episode 11: The Faux Pas: An inadvertent insult.
Episode 12: Tasteless Frank: Frank salts Marie's lasagna.
Episode 13: Sister-In-Law: Ray calls Amy a chatterbox and she finds out.
Episode 14: The Power of No: Ray chooses the NBA over Debra.
Episode 15: Pat's Secret: Ray catches Pat secretly smoking.
Episode 16: The Finale: Ray undergoes a routine surgery.
A stellar 5 star season to wrap up a 5 star series.

Moonlighting - Season 3 (1985) Review

(More customer reviews)This is, by far, the best season of Moonlighting. From the day waiting at the post office to find a man who's been sending a woman love letters to the trip to New York to Shakespeare...it has it all. Below is a list of episode summaries:
26. The Son Also Rises
David's estranged father makes a surprise visit to announce his upcoming wedding and to introduce his bride-to-be, who comes as a shock to David.
27. The Man Who Cried Wife
A man hires Dave and Maddie to find his wife, who's been making mysterious late night phone calls to him, the same wife he's sure he killed and buried in the forest.
28. Symphony in Knocked Flat
Dave and Maddie agree to each arrange what they consider to be an ideal evening for the other, but the concert tickets Dave buys from a scalper get them into nothing but trouble.
29. Yours, Very Deadly
Dave and Maddie are hired by a married woman to find the man she has been sharing a torrid romantic correspondence with and make sure he understands the arrangement is over.
30. All Creatures Great and ... Not So Great
A priest asks Dave and Maddie to find a woman he's become infatuated with during confession and whose latest revelation was her intention to kill herself.
31. Big Man on Mulberry Street
Maddie becomes consumed with curiosity when David announces he must fly back to New York to attend the funeral of his former wife's brother.
32. Atomic Shakespeare
A boy hoping to watch Moonlighting but forced to study Shakespeare instead daydreams about the cast performing their own version of The Taming of the Shrew complete with Petruchio Dave and Kate Maddie.

A depressed Maddie gets a chance to see what her life and the rest of Blue Moon staff would be like if she had sold the agency as she originally intended.

Dave and Maddie quarrel over Sam as they keep watch on a man for his mistress, who's convinced he's two-timing her-with his wife.

Maddie feels more and more confused about Sam and Dave after an all-night stakeout with Dave ends in an early morning proposal from Sam.
39. I Am Curious... Maddie
Sam confronts Dave about Maddie, and tells him he's not good enough for her.
