(More customer reviews)Sharp-eyed fans may have noticed that the season one set is entitled THE COMPLETE SEASON ONE while seasons two and three do not contain the word COMPLETE. We know virtually every scene in which Jim Neighbors sings was expunged from season two. I am suspecting the same holds for season three. If true for the rest of the series, some of the later episodes will be heavily butchered as the singing forms most of the plot.
All the cut scenes have really taken the wind out of my sail as far as collecting all the seasons. My wife and I stopped watching when "Put on a Happy Face" was cut. Really took the excitement out of the set.
Paramount is too cheap to pay for the rights to the songs, I guess.

There are 30 Episodes for Season 5. It really contains some great episodes: My Two favorite season 5 episodes are: Car For Sale and Come Blow Your Top!
Come Blow Your Top had it all. By the fifth season Jim Nabors and Frank Sutton had perfected their roles as Gomer and Sgt Carter respectvely. This storyline exemplified what the entire series was about. Well respected and tough as nails Sgt Carter trying his best to maintain a top notch platoon while the often clumsy but good natured Gomer seemed to always find a way to make waves and get under the Sergeants skin. This episode featured Alan Melvin as Sgt Hacker who put in one of his best performances of the series as he enlisted the help of Gomer to make Sgt Carter blow his top and win a bet at the same time.

(More customer reviews)I was angered to read the small print on the box that advises that some music has been changed and episodes may be edited. Yikes. I suspected that the music changes would occur in restaurants, etc. when they have dance music going in the background. So far I am right. I hate they changed it, but the music isn't too bad. On the other hand, haven't seen any edits yet. Hope there aren't any. Why would a company go to all the trouble to remaster edited versions (and the episodes look fantastic by the way). Would have given 5 stars but because the b.g. live action music was changed, had to knock off a star. I'll post again if I spot any missing footage.

(More customer reviews)The history of these DVD sets since season one has had the episodes literally butchered when it came to the music in the show. Even a small snipit of Sargent Carter singing "The Night Was Meant For Love" in one episode, or a full version of Gomer singing "This Train is a Going Home Train", the cheapsakes that are producing these DVD sets of Gomer Pyle make even Season 4 a disappointment. However, in watching these episodes I'm finding that it's not just music that's cut; there is also dialog in scenes that's been hacked out. Because of the electronic graphic and CG era that we live in, I look forward to shows being released on DVD because there are no "bugs" in the corners of the screens, no animated graphics promoting upcoming shows, or any other distractions. The shows for the most part are the way they should be seen, uncut and commercial free. This is not the case with the Gomer Pyle DVD's including season 4. Dialog, music and other scenes cut because the production companies don't want to pay the royalties for the music included in the original releases. Why dialog is cut, I'm not sure. I was such a fan of this show, and really wanted a complete collection of the episodes, but I'm very disappointed in the results that have come about on my store shelves. If we continue to purchase these edited sets, the production companies will continue to put out these cheap imitations of the real show. I've written a letter to CBS with a formal complaint, but I know it will fall on deaf ears. But if more enthusiasts like us continue, maybe we'll make a difference. If you're an avid fan of Gomer, then this is the best we can get for now. I only wish they were complete episodes.
