(More customer reviews)I owned both of these movies on Laserdisc, long, long ago. And until this Blu Ray was released, that was the only way to see these funny movies in a WIDESCREEN transfer! I was very excited to get this Blu Ray in the mail a few days ago! The transfers look awesome! Very clean, and sharp, and, at LAST, in 16x9 WIDESCREEN.
I do agree with the reviews that I've read, stating most people are kind of upset about being able to own BOTH films for the same price, or less than, the cost paid for Grumpy Old Men on Blu Ray. I too bought the Grumpy Old Men Blu Ray, back in December. I paid $17.99 here on Amazon for it. Then a few weeks later I saw the listing, thanks to High Def Digest ([...]) and was bummed to think I bought 1 film for 17.99, when the pre-list price for BOTH was 17.99! But oh well! I am just EXTREMELY happy to see both of these great films on Blu Ray!
Now I am hoping that FOX will release Out To Sea on Blu Ray! Walter and Jack were the greatest duo in the past 30 years, and are always a joy to watch!!!
Sure this disc is missing the trailers, and there are NO special features. But, if you like the movies, BUY this Blu Ray! You will NOT be disappointed!!!

The wit hits the fan as legendary screen odd couple Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau play Minnesota ice-fishing pals whose crusty friendship grows hilariously icier as the Grumpy Old Men vie for an attractive widow (Ann-Margret). Also in the cast are Daryl Hannah, Kevin Pollak, Ossie Davis and an outrageously randy Burgess Meredith. The two grab their rods to reel in another comic whopper in Grumpier Old Men. Most of the original cast returns, and Sophia Loren plays the vivacious newcomer who wants to turn the beloved bait shop into a chichi ristorante. Of course, in this part of the Land of 1000 Lakes, that means war! Enjoy.

Fail-safe (Special Edition) (1964) Review

(More customer reviews)Most books, even the great ones, unfortunately do not translate well onto the big screen. Fail Safe is a happy exception to the rule.
The story is now two generations old. Mechanical error sends six bombers towards the Soviet Union (remember them? they used to be our one mortal national enemy). The President and the government try all they can to recall them, to no avail.
Emotions understandibly run high. Men get stretched to the breaking point, and some snap. The President makes a terrible sacrifice, to convince the Russians that it WAS an accident. The price of this ticket it incredibly high.
Forget about the comparisons with Dr. Strangelove (which is a great movie in its own right). They belong together only by their contrasting styles.
This movie is chilling in Black & White. You will never think of J.R. Ewing again the same way, after seeing Larry Hagman in the role as the President's translator.

Mister Peepers - The TV Series (1952) Review

(More customer reviews)This is an absolutely delightful, subtle, and twee comedy from the year 1952. It will prove odd to many juveniles; there are no car chases, explosions, four letter words, or sex scenes. You have to pay attention to the dialogue, which is spoken not shouted. Mr. Peepers is a gentle and kind junior high science teacher, and the world seems to get the better of him...but not for long. Wally Cox is one of a kind, and so is Marion Lorne, who plays the principal's wife. Tony Randall and Jack Warden make guest appearances in these live performances, and they are entertaining. But in every episode, Cox is the focus, and his low-key humor can't be matched by anyone...at any time. This is wonderful television from a much kinder and quieter era.
