Pooh's Heffalump Halloween Movie (2005) Review

This movie was a BIG disappointment. My daughter and I are huge Winnie the Pooh fans, and we had been looking forward to the release of Pooh's Heffalump Halloween ever since we saw the first Heffalump movie. Unlike that movie, which was charming and endearing, this one is ponderous, uninteresting, and contrived. The previews show only the good scenes and leave out the sleep-inducing flashback to a previous Halloween where Piglet was scared half to death. And the movie ends with a yawn; the theme of unconditional friendship never really came out like it did in the original Heffalump movie. And where was Owl? He has been MIA ever since Piglet's Big Movie in 2003. I give this movie two stars only because my daughter and I love the characters so much.

It's a hilariously haunting Halloween in the Hundred Acre Wood. Roo's best new pal, Lumpy, is excited to trick-or-treat for the first time ... until Tigger warns them about the dreaded Gobloon, who'll turn you into a Jaggedy Lantern if he catches you. But if they catch the Gobloon before it catches them, they get to make a wish! With Roo by his side, Lumpy knows he can face anything. So when Pooh eats all the Halloween candy, Lumpy and Roo decide to be "brave together, brave forever" and catch the Gobloon so they can wish for more. When the two friends become separated, however, Roo decides to wish for something even more important. Filled with adventure, unconditional friendship, and lots of laughter, POOH'S HEFFALUMP HALLOWEEN MOVIE is a sweet treat for the whole family.

Samurai Jack: Season 4 Review

I am a 36 year old father who got into Samurai Jack through his son. I will admit that I am a big kid and love animation, but I am also picky and don't have time to waste on sub-par series. Samurai Jack is certainly a cut above most. From its offbeat theme song and stylized animation, you know you are getting something special -- and that isn't even taking into account the premise of the shows! My son even wanted to be called Jack for a several months, and has been inspired to learn the art of the samurai sword in his Tae Kwon Do class. All because of this series.
I missed most of Season 4 because of Cartoon Network's constant shifting of the show. I am not sure why it did not go on for another few seasons as it was always fresh and exciting. It is one of the few shows that really miss being able to see. We have the other 3 seasons on DVD and they were well worth the purchase price. Excellent stories, high flying action, and great characters make Samurai Jack a cartoon for the ages. I expect the Season 4 DVD will continue to live up to those high standards.
EDIT: Got the DVDs and have been watching them with my kids. Yep, it was worth the wait. It is fun to catch a few of the episodes I missed. Some have said the quality of the show dropped in season 4 -- I could not disagree more!

We checked these out from the library before knowing anything about the shows at all. We don't watch network tv so we're a bit out of the tv loop. As soon as we watched the first episode my 6 and 4 year old and I were all hooked. We hadn't even finished the first dvd and I was on Amazon ordering both dvd's, Dragon Tales and Dragon rules. They are superb in language and storytelling. The art is modern but manages to transport the viewer back to ancient times with a magical "old" feel. The stories are sweet and the characters are all lovable. The angst in each episode is short-lived and always works out in the end. 4 year olds, 6 year olds and apparently even 41 years old like that! Wonderful dvds. We've watched them over and over again.
