Cirque du Soleil - Midnight Sun (1988) Review

Cirque du Soleil - Midnight Sun (1988)

In order to appreciate this DVD, I think you have to see it more as a concert than a typical Cirque performance. As a live, outdoor concert, it works. The DVD captures the excitement of the crowd and if you especially enjoy the Euro-music of Cirque, this one's for you. It is light on acrobatics, but visually interesting, and the music is (overall) great. It can't compare with Varekai or Allegria; it's not that kind of show. I don't get the negativity of the other reviews, but we all have our subjective opinions. I'm glad I got this one.

Another great Season of Stargate SG-1. If you are here, then I don't have to tell you that! I always search everywhere on the internet and try to get some advance notice about DVD releases. As with the prior seasons, the format is Widescreen anamorphic - 1.78:1 and the audio is Dolby Digital 5.1. Disappointingly, MGM's site had very little information. I especially wanted to find out what the "Director Series" is in the extras. I could not find out too much. Only one website had this description: The Director Series features give insight into the working day of the director on issues such as script development, prop and set creation.
Here is an episode guide, with a tiny description.
1. Redemption - Part 1: The Stargate malfunctions and threatens to destroy all life on Earth.
2. Redemption - Part 2: Teal'c and Ryac decide to destroy the weapon that has turned the Stargate into a bomb.
3. Descent: After being ambushed, Carter and an SG-1 team crash into the Pacific Ocean.
4. Frozen: A woman who has been frozen for thousands of years is thawed and returns to life, infecting the others with a deadly virus.
5. Nightwalkers: Immunitech is implanting Gou'ald symbiotes into the citizens of an Oregon town.
6. Abyss: Jack is captured and tortured by the Gou'ald. Daniel Jackson's ghost returns to help him.
7. Shadowplay: The Kelownans, who are from Jonas's home planet, negotiate for Earth's superior military technology. Dr. Kieran, a Kelownan scientist, tells Jonas that he is part of a resistance movement trying to save the planet.
8. The Other Guys: Felger and Coombs try to rescue an SG-1 team, who was taken captive by the Gou'ald.
9. Allegiance: Artok is suspected of Ocker's murder, and then is murdered himself.
10. Cure: The Pangerans offer to trade the secret of a miracle drug for instruction in how to use a gate. However, there is a problem with the drug.
11. Prometheus - Part 1: Operatives posing as camera crew hijack a new spacecraft that combines human with alien technology.
12. Unnatural Selection - Part 2: Replicators have overrun an Asgard world and created a time distortion there.
13. Sight Unseen: An ancient artifact from another planet is responsible for the spread of a contagious "disease" on Earth.
14. Smoke and Mirrors: Senator Kinsey is assassinated by a man who looks like Colonel Jack O'Neill.
15. Paradise Lost: Colonel Maybourne and Colonel O'Neill end up on a planet that Maybourne says is a secret alien paradise.
16. Metamorphosis: Gou'ald queen, Nirrti, may be creating a race of super human warriors through the manipulation of DNA.
17. Disclosure: The U.S. and Russia disclose the existence of Stargate to the United Kingdom, France, and China.
18. Forsaken: SG-1 finds three human survivors on another planet that are under attack, seemingly without a reason.
19. The Changeling: Teal'c believes he has lost his symbiote.
20. Memento: The SG-1 team hear of a mythical Stargate on an inhabited planet.
21. Prophecy: The citizens of an alien planet believe that the SG-1 team have arrived to fulfill an ancient prophecy to free them from tyranny.
22. Full Circle: The ghost of Daniel Jackson tells O'neill that Anubis is scheming to steal the Eye of Ra.

ER: The Complete Sixth Season (1999)

The sixth season of ER is my personal favorite. It includes several guest appearances by Alan Alda, the addition of several new doctors including Abbey Lockhart and Luka Kovac. And of course, the sixth season includes the emmy winning, shocking exit by Kellie Martin after her and Carter are
stabbed by a patient, which leads to Carter's struggle with a nasty drug addiction. There are also many great trauma room scenes in the sixth season. The complete cast for season six is:
Anthony Edwards
Noah Wyle
Julianna Margulies
Gloria Ruben
Laura Innes
Maura Tierney
Goran Visnjic
Erik Palladino
Michael Michelle
Ming Na
Paul McCrane
Alex Kingston
Kellie Martin
and
Eriq La Salle
The sixth season was nominated for 9 emmys, eventually winning two. In it's sixth season(1999-2000), ER was the most watched drama series on tv.
It's no surprise. With great acting, powerful music and outstanding cinematography, season six of ER is a must own for ER fans and great drama
fans alike.

A lot of people pointed out the quality of "Curb" went downhill in the fourth season. I disagree. The "Producers" storyline with Ben Stiller and then David Schwimmer was just as great as the first three with some hilarious episodes. I read there are no extras in the set. A shame--so much could have been included, and the price is a bit steep considering there were only ten episodes. I got the first couple of seasons for $20,but the show is such a gem I suppose it is worth paying a little more..but it would have been nice to have those extras in there.ala Seinfeld.

Season 2 ranks up there and has some priceless moments including the doll episode! I would like to see more bonus features on the CYE discs...maybe outtakes or the ultimate idea...the cast roasting Larry!

With its alluring tales of Gothic mystery and supernatural intrigue, Dark Shadows became one of the most popular daytime series of all time.Since first airing on ABC-TV from 1966-71, Dark Shadows has earned the reputation as being one of the most unusual and enduring programs in television history. The character of Barnabas Collins, a guilt-ridden 175 year-old vampire, brought the show tremendous success.
At Collinwood in the year 1840, governess Daphne Harridge finds a letter from her absent sister warning her to stay away from Quentin Collins. Roxanne Drew rises as a vampire and attacks Lamar Trask. When Trask discovers Quentin's laboratory and proclaims that he will be placed on trial for witchcraft, Barnabas and Desmond Collins vow to save Quentin from being executed. Gabriel Collins plots to revise his father Daniel's will so that he and Edith Collins will inherit the entire family fortune. After reading servant Ben Stokes' diary from 1795, Lamar Trask finds the skeleton of his father bricked up in the Old House basement and plans revenge on Barnabas. Dark Shadows DVD Collection 10 (1966)

With this DVD set, the story of Adam accelerates as he forces Barnabas and Julia to bring his mate, Eve, to life. Lots of powerplay between Nicholas Blair allied with Adam and Barnabas allied with Julia and Professor Stokes. There are subplots aplenty, one particularly nerve-racking one involving Maggie Evans beginning to regain her memory of what Barnabas did to her way back in DVD Collection 2. Things also really begin to get good between Barnabas and Angelique, now a vampire, in this set. For John Karlen fans, these episodes are from a period in which he appeared on the show quite a lot (fans will know that he was known to leave the show for months at a time), meaning that Willie sees a lot of screen time. All in all, its a good collection with episodes from a pretty good DS storyline, though, in my opinion it pales in comparison with whats to come next DVD, the beginning of Quentin Collins' haunting of Collinwood. Of course, this is a great set for fans of DS and a must-have for those collecting the DVDs. For those who have never seen the show but are into cult/quirky gothic fantasy, I highly recommend you pick up these DVDs. The Adam and Eve story will reach its conclusion with the next release, and Quentin Collins played by fan-favorite David Selby will make his first appearances as the DVDs head into the episodes that comprised Dark Shadows' most successful days.

Dark Shadows: DVD Collection 21 (1966) Review

Dark Shadows: DVD Collection 21 (1966)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Dark Shadows DVD Collection 21 goes where no other collection has gone before: into the inexplicable world of Collinwood in parallel time, where the faces and the surroundings are the only things that are familiar.
The premiss is relatively straightforward, illustrating the compelling science fiction concept that many parallel worlds coexist with the one we know and erroneously believe is the only reality. In each parallel time band, we live completely different lives based on substantially different life choices that we have made.
The vampire, Barnabas Collins (Jonathan Frid), discovers a portal to parallel time in an East Wing room of Collinwood. Hoping to escape his supernatural curse, Barnabas remains in the room until it reverts to the parallel time band, taking him with it. Unfortunately for him, the vampire curse remains unchanged in parallel time, but everything else has changed.
Quentin (David Selby) is the master of Collinwood and Elizabeth (Joan Bennett) and Roger (Louis Edmonds) are his siblings living off of his generosity. Carolyn (Nancy Barrett) is married to the writer, William Loomis (John Karlen), who wrote a bestseller on the life of Barnabas Collins (who was not a vampire, and who lived a long life with his beloved wife, Josette.) Quentin's wife, Angelique (Lara Parker), (who, unknown to Quentin was a witch) died 6 months prior, is found to have been murdered! Quentin has since remarried - Maggie Evans (Kathryn Leigh Scott)!
Alexis, Angelique's twin sister, comes to Collinwood then herself is murdered by Angelique, who has survived the grave through the sinister black magic of their stepfather, Timothy E. Stokes (Thayer David). Angelique, who steals the warmth and life of the good Alexis, then dreams up a vicious plot to ruin the entire Collins family by turning Quentin and Maggie against each other.
Meanwhile, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Grayson Hall), worried about her beloved Barnabas, manages to transport herself into parallel time to assist him in just the nick of time: her counterpart, the evil housekeeper Hoffman who was also a close confidant to Angelique, was posed to drive a wooden stake into the heart of Barnabas. In a great twist, Julia kills her Hoffman counterpart, then assumes her identify to spy on Angelique.
By the end of the boxed set, most of the Collins family has been murdered by the same person who killed Angelique, who is then himself murdered by the undead witch in the ultimate revenge!
During this wild ride, there is suicide, madness, evil laboratory experiments and even love. This is Dark Shadows at its fantastic best, as the core ensemble cast shine in portraying their traditional roles in VERY untraditional and often twisted ways. Bravo!!

Annie (Special Anniversary Edition) (1982)
Average Reviews:

Well, I think this is a really swell movie. Albert Finney and Carol Burnett crack me up, Aileen Quinn is exactly what Annie should be, and Sandy is perfect.
But WHY OH WHY is this not being offered in a widescreen format? I have yet to see all of "It's a Hard Knock Life" and I know those girls are knocking themselves out offscreen. I've seen this movie on three different media. All were pan and scan, and all three showed different parts of the picture! The worst was a VHS release. (...)
I don't know which is more frustrating about this anniversary dvd, the fact that it doesn't offer widescreen, or the fact that the dvd menu and the special features show the movie clips in widescreen, teasing me with those brief glimpses.
There is no reason that dvd manufacturers shouldn't at least OFFER a widescreen version. Let's get with the 21st century already!
