(More customer reviews)Being in the U.S. I never heard of Intelligence but came across it on Amazon. I loved it instantly and pre-ordered season 2 as soon as I could. I rec'd season 2 3 days ago and I have one episode left. My plan was to stretch it out as long as possible since it is the final season and the first night had to force my self to stop after one disc. The second night I was not so lucky - I stayed up all night watching the next 6 hours. One episode before bed - that was the plan...watched until 5 a.m. Now I'm on the last disc and so sad. My family has been bugging me since I gave them season 1 - where's season 2? Kept forgetting it hadn't been released yet...no matter how many times I told them.I know they will be equally heartbroken when they finish it. I would love to see these actors all in another crime show soon - but something lasting more than 2 seasons. When you see a great show like this only last 2 seasons you've got to wonder what were they thinking? There's no way it was replaced by anything better - no possible way. Now I'm hunting for more Canadian crime shows I may have missed because they do it so well - Davinci's Inquest, Intelligence, and Cold Squad (not on DVD-but airing on SLEUTH TV) are all great shows-Davinci and Intel are pure genius with amazing actors who you truly believe are who they are. Ian Tracey is so talented. I completely believed him as Mic Leary and never thought I could turn around a believe him as Jimmy Reardon when he played such a great cop. But Jimmy Reardon is just as believable, perfectly played and the rest of the cast is equally fabulous. I always find myself rooting for the cops to put the bad guys way....Intel is the opposite -I like the actors, and want to root for the "good guys" but by the end of every episode, I'm on the edge of my seat rooting for Jimmy and his pals. What a great show - cancelling it had to be the worst mistake ever-that says alot considering how many good shows get cancelled by the idiots in network & cable TV, while a bunch of trash continues to air year after year.

La Femme Nikita: The Complete Fifth Season (1997) Review

(More customer reviews)This final season contains 8 episodes. Like when Highlander disappeared. USA Network showed these episodes without any fanfare. It took me over a year to catch all the episodes but it was worth it. And now anyone who did not get to see all the episodes can see them in one sitting!!!!!
These episodes are more like a miniseries as they answer the questions of how Nikita was "recruited." It reveals who is behind section.
Each episode adds onto the previous upto the conclusion of the series. Although there is a cliffhanger, everything is tied up in a tidy knot and it is very satifying for devotees of the show.
Peta Wilson and Roy DuPuis again shine as the spy and lovers. Alberta Walker again gives her ice cold performance as second in command, Madeline. This seasonette, Edward Woodward makes an appearance and shows that he still has it.

Intelligence: Season One (2006) Review

(More customer reviews)I could not disagree more with Sam Graham's analysis of this program (see Amazon's review). First, he unfortunately compares what he considers failings of this show with U.S. programming. Who ever said programming in the States is something writers should try to emulate!
"Intelligence" does have a large cast, and you will recognize many of them from the DaVinci series if you have been fortunate enough to see those. (Acorn - please put that entire series out on DVD!)
I like this show for exactly the reasons that Sam Graham finds fault with it. There is not gross visualization of violence and gore - because it is written with more development of character than the standard shoot 'em up you will find in U.S. programming. (How many times can we watch CSI and all those carved up bodies!)
Ian Tracey is great as the low key bad guy you can't help but like and they give the strongest role opposite Tracey's to a woman. Klea Scott as Mary is compelling because she holds her own with the big boys, never using her sexuality to get what she wants. She uses her brain and intuition to get the "Intelligence" she sees as the way to fight crime in her city.
It is apparent Mr. Graham is not a Canadian and seems to think crime is
neat and tidy in Canada....too whitewashed to be interesting. Has he not heard of the pig farmer lately?
I live in Seattle and drugs crossing our borders from Canada are a constant worry here. Amazon is based about a mile from my house, but Graham's lack of understanding of the drug problems in the Northwest make me wonder where he lives!
Readers, pay no mind to Amazon's review of this series. Take a chance on "Intelligence". I think you will be as fascinated as I have been. Chris Haddock continues to produce writing for our times - realistic writing with well developed characters and doesn't depend on shock value to hold an audience. He gives you tension, suspense and intrigue without the blood and guts which so often attract the average 12 year old mind.

Wiseguy: The Collector's Edition Review

(More customer reviews)When Wiseguy originally came out on DVD, I was excited beyond words to finally see my favorite tv show of all time after so long. Right before I went to the store I decided to check Amazon for reviews, which is where I discovered the most climactic scene out of the entire series had been massacred. Any other episode I might understand, but for the studio to care so little about the show to not pony up the extra dough to keep "Nights in White Satin" in the final scene told me a lot about not only how much they care about the profit margin, but also how little they care about the fans. To me it's the same thing as taking John William's music out of the final Death Star scene in the original Star Wars movie. At that moment I refused to buy any Wiseguy DVDs, from any season.
Years later I hear about this collector's edition coming out, and again I get potentially excited..until the announcement comes out that's it's not a collector's edition at all, just a repackaging of the previous releases. I can at least understand the Dead Dog Records arc because of the sheer number of songs and the editing issues, but one song in what most fans consider the most poignant and emotional scene of the series?
Great job to the studio and Mr. Cannell. After all these years you still know how to put the screws to the fans. I guess it's time to find some old VHS copies and convert them to digital format.

The Beast: Season One Review

(More customer reviews)Overall this show 'wowed' me a lot more then I ever thought it would, though I was never sold on the title they chose. Surprisingly good, despite some new comers and a gritty underbelly. I believe this is the last work Patrick Swayze did, before his death from cancer, September 14, 2009.
Mr. Swayze made his acting debut in the 1983 movie 'The Outsiders' directed by Francis Ford Coppola, which also starred several other beginners, including Tom Cruise, Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Diane Lane, and Matt Dillon among others. For those interested in more about Mr. Swayze, his book is coming out September 29, 2009, aptly titled 'The Time of My Life'.
The show, Season 1, which contains thirteen episodes, originally aired on January 15, 2009, on the A&E Channel, is about a veteran FBI agent (Swayze) who gets a new partner (Travis Fimmel), and is not too excited about it. The new 'wet behind the ears' partner soon learns that his veteran partner is probably working on both sides of the fence (legal and illegal) and has to decide what to do when he gets approached to spy and rat on him (Swayze).
Great story, great troubled characters, some incredible action scenes, smart and fun dialogue, nice set design. I was truly amazed on how good it was.
Unfortunately, there is only one season. The show got canceled due to concerns about Mr. Swayze's health issues (pancreatic cancer). It's a loss to those of us that came to love the series.
Update:
While I didn't like that they canceled show, because I loved it so much, I'm glad they did now, so Mr. Swayze could have that time with family and friends before he passed on. I feel like this series was some of his best work.
