(More customer reviews)I was so excited to find out that the first season of "The New Adventures of Old Christine" is coming to DVD! This show has a terrific cast with terrific writing that make it a very enjoyable show to sit down and watch. I think what is so endearing about this show, especially the main character Christine, played brilliantly by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, is that she tries so hard to be a normal, working mother. She is sending her son to a fancy private school while having to deal with the hilarious "Meanie Moms," who are rich snobs who look down on her for being a divorced, working woman, her ex-husband coming around with his new girlfriend, a young, sweet lady who also happens to be named Christine, and the fact that she herself does not have much in the way of what you'd call a love life. But instead of taking the usual approach of a lot of sitcoms where the characters have problems but then they are resolved within thirty minutes, we see Christine's failures. She tries so hard, and yet she manages to embarass herself, screw up, and/or put her foot in her mouth. That is what makes her endearing...she has very good intentions, but she can't always succeed, and so that makes it easy to relate to her. That is why I find the cover art so funny and so in character for her...only she could hop into her car and begin driving away without a care in the world only to have every single thing she needed to bring with her still on the roof of the car. So pick this one up, you won't be disappointed...it's a fresh sitcom with unique writing and I have no doubt that you'll not only enjoy this, but in some way, you just may be able to relate to it!

Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Complete Sixth Season (2007) Review

(More customer reviews)The sixth season of critical darling Curb Your Enthusiasm delivers the same Larry David and his life of absurd self-sabotage that has entertained viewers for nearly a decade. With an almost reality-TV improv feel, Curb follows the Seinfeld co-creator through his miseries and mishaps brought about by his George Costanza-like neuroses and over analysis of everyday situations.
As with previous years, Season 6 is tied together by a single overarching plot. In the first episode, Larry's wife convinces him to take in a family displaced by a recent hurricane. The Black Family (whose name mirrors their race, a joke not lost on Larry) work their way into each episode, as either an extra source of frustration for our perpetually exasperated hero or as a source for an alternative perspective when providing Larry with advice.In another example of art imitating life, a second extended plot develops involving the breakdown of Larry's marriage, just as he is going through divorce proceedings in real life. Cheryl's character doesn't seem as important in Season 6, also possibly the product of Larry's real life matrimonial problems. His frustrations with Cheryl take a meaner, more mocking tone (her absurd reaction to Larry and the Blacks desire to use non-recycled toilet paper being the best example). Larry's real life soon-to-be former wife is a champion of environmental and other causes, a trait she shares with Cheryl and one that Season Six paints as naïve and misguided.
Richard Lewis, Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen continue their real life roles as Larry's friends and have no problems mocking their own image (where else can you see great moments like an uninvited drunken limo driver crashing a party and taunting Ted Danson by calling him "Becker"?). Season 6 adds Lucy Lawless, Senator Barbara Boxer and John McEnroe in small parts as themselves, each bravely portraying an exaggerated and ridiculous version of who they really are, but one that fits perfectly with Larry David's view of the world...and one that echoes the spirit of this irresistible show.

Seinfeld - Season 9 Review

(More customer reviews)Season nine starts where we left off the previous season, with George recovering from injuries he took down a flight of stairs, thus interrupting the "Summer of George" he was planning to enjoy with his generous severance check from the New York Yankees. George quickly finds another job, but his potential new boss has misunderstood his cane, and before George can explain the boss tells George about all of the benefits he will enjoy as a handicapped employee. George decides to go along with the ruse when he discovers he will have his own specially outfitted bathroom to suit his handicap - a perk George cannot resist. When George is found out by his employer and even offered another generous severance package to leave, he decides to dig in and the whole situation turns into a humorous seige. George never fails to offend and infuriate people, so later in the season when an acquaintance is working on step nine of the AA program by going around and apologizing for past transgressions George is unhappy that he is never apologized to. He agitates the acquaintance about this so badly that he does eventually get the apology. However, unfortunately now the poor fellow has an anger management problem on top of his alcoholism due to George and must enroll in still another support group.
Elaine is in a longer relationship than usual, continuing her romance with ace auto mechanic David Puddy. The mismatched couple have as tortured a relationship as you would expect and in the opening episode are bickering during a plane ride all the way back from Europe where they have been vacationing. They break up but end up sleeping together every time they see each other. This works out for Jerry and for Puddy since Jerry keeps betting Elaine that she can't stay away from Puddy - and winning - and it turns out that Puddy likes not having to stick around to cuddle with Elaine afterwards.
Although I have no idea how Kramer manages to live in Manhattan without any visible means of support, at least we finally discover why he has been unemployed. He's been waiting for the strike to end at H&H Bagels for 12 years. The strike ends when the minimum wage finally reaches what the union demanded in the first place. Of course, Kramer is the only one of the strikers who has actually been faithfully striking all these years. When he decides to celebrate George's father's version of Christmas - Festivus - he wants the day off. When H&H refuses Kramer goes back on strike because his religious beliefs are not being honored, thus ending Kramer's brief venture into the world of work.
Jerry has numerous romantic misadventures this season including a girlfriend that looks either beautiful or hideous depending on what the lighting is, another girlfriend who likes to wander around sans clothing yet still manages to annoy Jerry when he discovers there is such a thing as "bad naked", and yet another girlfriend whom Jerry throws over for the sound of his own voice imitating the noises that the girl's stomach makes.
This year has Newman making quite a few appearances, most notably in "The Butter Shave" where he discovers that he is strangely attracted to Kramer in a culinary way after Kramer uses butter as a tanning lotion and then falls asleep in the sun. That all-over butter smell is just too much for Newman to resist ending in a hilarious chase scene through the middle of Jerry's stand-up routine. Newman and Kramer are also featured in a satire of the X-Files when Kramer starts to complain about his junk mail to the post office and goes there to declare he no longer wants his mail delivered.
The last four episodes - Puerto Rican Day, the two clip shows, and the finale were a bit of a let-down to me. Puerto Rican Day didn't seem to have the same level of ensemble humor I was accustomed to seeing, the clip shows are just bits and pieces taken from prior shows that were shown on the night the finale was broadcast, and the finale just didn't live up to my expectations. But then it would be hard to wrap up in one hour a show that spent nine years focused on the minutia of life as experienced by four self-involved people and somehow managed to never disappoint. It's hard to have a satisfying conclusion to something that had no real beginning or middle to it. The following is the list of special features:

Seinfeld - Season 6 (1990) Review

(More customer reviews)Some of the classics include The Chinese Woman, whose advice is taken by Mrs. Costanza until she learns the woman is NOT Chinese. The Couch, when George is too lazy to read a book (Breakfast at Tiffany's) and so goes to a stranger's house to watch the movie.....this is one of my personal favorites of the show. The Fusilli Jerry is uproarious......"'It was a million to one shot, doc, million to one." The Jimmy is another classic, with Kramer getting dental work and being mistaken for.....well, if you watch Seinfeld, you know;-)
Some other episodes:
The Chaperone- Kramer tries to help Miss Rhode Island prepare for a pageant, while at the same time Jerry is dating her. Her birds are killed in her hotel room which she was going to use for her talent act, and instead she must resort to singing, which she does not do very well(an understatement). George suggests that the New York Yankees switch to all cotton uniforms and the uniforms shrink (George=shrinkage again!). Elaine gets a new job and we meet Mr. Pitt.
The Mango- Kramer gets banned from his favorite produce store and so he has Jerry get the produce for him. Jerry learns that Elaine had faked her orgasms and tries to talk Elaine into giving him one time to redeem himself.
The Stall- In a bathroom stall Elaine discovers that she has no toilet paper so she asks the woman in the next stall for a piece(Can you spare a square?). The woman next to her refuses.....only later does she learn that this woman is actually Jerry's girlfriend.
The Scofflaw- Newman is helped by Cramer inadvertently to escape from a cop who has caught the "white whale", a scofflaw the cop has been trying to catch for years for illegal parking.
The Chinese Woman- After lines are crossed, Mrs. Costanza receives advice from Jerry's girlfriend late one night while talking on the phone, and because of it, does not want a divorce. After she learns the woman who gave he the advice is NOT Chinese but is using a shortened name which sounds Chinese, she says 'this changes everything!' Kramer's sperm count is low and he must go from briefs to boxers but he does not want to as his "boys need a house." Many memorable lines from this one.
The Face Painter- Elaine dates David Putty, who paints his face in team colors for hockey games.....the colors for the devils. The face painting is embarassing to Elaine, Jerry, and offends a priest in a taxi. Kramer gets into a fight with a monkey at the zoo when the monkey throws a bannana peel at him and then he throws it back. The monkey then goes into a deep depression(he stops his autoerotic functioning) and the zoo blames Kramer.
The Couch- George is too lazy to read a book (Breakfast at Tiffany's) for his book club and so goes to a stranger's house to watch the movie after he peers over the counter at the video rental store to see who has the movie.....once there, we see the truly obnoxious side of George Costanza. Grape juice on the couch......I mean, can he be any more obnoxious? This is one of my personal favorites for both the season and the show.

Seinfeld - Season 4 (1993) Review

(More customer reviews)I'm not one of those Seinfeld fans who saw a big decline in the show as the season's came and went. I loved the final couple of seasons just as much as any. Only the first season, where they were still working with the formula to get it right, was a bit weak. That said, if I was on a desert Island and could have only one season of Seinfeld to own and watch, it would be season four. It not only had many great episodes but it had many that would go down as classics, not only of Seinfeld, but all-time sit-com classics.
There are so many great episodes from season four but here are my favorites:
"The Wallet" & "The Watch" this was a two-parter as Jerry's parents come to town so Morty can see a back specialist. Morty is up in arms when he thinks his wallet is stolen in the doctor's office. Meanwhile Unlce Leo finds a watch that Jerry threw in the trash, a watch his parents gave him and Jerry tries to buy it back.
"The Bubble Boy" Jerry, Elaine, George and Susan are going up to Susan's father's cabin. They are asked to see a local fan named "the bubble boy" who lives in a plastic bubble ala John Travolta in the movie. George gets there first and plays a game of Trivial Pursuit with the bubble boy and they get into a fight. Kramer accidently burns down the cabin. One of the all-time great episodes!
"The Contest" Maybe the greatest episode ever...George is caught pleasuring himself by his mother who throws out her back and lands in the hospital. George, jerry, Kramer and Elaine all bet to see who can go the longest without doing...that...Later appearing on David On the Letterman show, Julia Louis-Dreyfus said that the network censors would not allow them to say "masturbation".
"The Pick" Kramer takes a picture of Elaine for her Christmas card. After she sends the picture out to everyone, including her nephew, they notice that her nipple was exposed! Jerry's girlfriend thinks she caught him picking her nose.
"The Visa" Kramer punches Mickey Mantle at a baseball fantasy camp, Babu's visa expires and he is deported. Kramer's explanation of the fight with Mantle is the highlight.
"The Outing" this would feature one of the all-time great Seinfeld lines "Not that there is anything wrong with that" when a college newspaper reporter mistakenly thinks jerry and George are a gay couple.
"The Implant" Jerry dumps his girlfriend (Terry hatcher) when Elaine tells him that her breasts are fake. Kramer thinks he sees Salman Rushdie the author, in a sauna and George gets into a fight at his girlfriend's Aunt's funeral because he 'double-dipped' a chip.
"The Junior Mint" Jerry can't remember the name of his girlfriend, only that it rhymes with the word for a female body part. Jerry and Kramer watch an operation and accidently toss a junior mint into the surgical opening.
"The Smelly Car" a Valet parker leaves a strong body odor in Jerry's car. Jerry tries everything to get the smell out and eventually gives the car away.
"The Pilot" George & Jerry's show is greenlighted to have a pilot produced and they interview prosective "kramers, Georges, and Elaines". Elaine finds Morty's wallet...missing since that early episode, in Jerry's Couch.
This season really had it all. I would have to say that there really was not one bad episode in the entire season. This group of talented actors was on their game all season and took the sitcom to incedible heights. There simply has been nothing since that has come close to matching Seinfeld's brilliance.

Seinfeld - Season 3 (1992) Review

(More customer reviews)While there were some select excellent episodes during the first two seasons of Seinfeld, I've always thought Season three was when the show really hit its stride and found its comfort zone where it would remain for the next six years.
This season really defined the whole irreverance of the show and the pure ridiculous idiosyncracies of the characters. Among the great episodes of season three:
"The pen" Jerry visits his parents in florida and Jack Klompus gives Jerry the famous Astronaut pen that writes upside down.
"The Library" The library asks Jerry about a book he checked out in 1971 and never returned, so Jerry looks up an old girlfriend for his defense against a library cop. Phillip Baker Hall is priceless as the Libray Cop Bookman.
"The Subway" Everyone has an uncommon experience while going their separate ways on the subway. George meets a beautiful woman who distracts him from his intended destination, a job interview. Jerry falls asleep and then wakes up across from a fat naked man and winds up discussing with him, the New York Mets & Coney Island.
"The Pez Dispenser" Kramer joins the "Polar Bear Club." Jerry gets one of Kramer's Pez dispensers which makes Elaine laugh during a piano recital of George's girlfriend, and that puts their relationship in jeopardy.
"The Boyfriend Parts 1 & 2" Jerry meets Keith Hernandez and wants to make a good impression. Meanwhile, George is out of time on his unemployment and he works harder than ever on his scheme to get a 13 week extension. He tells the unemployment office he was really close on Vandelay Industries, a company that makes latex products and whose main office is Jerry's apartment. Kramer and Newman hate Hernandez back to a time when they were allegedly spit on by him; however, Jerry supports the "second-spitter theory." The First of Many legnedary Episodes.
There is commentary on several episodes and many more extras. This is the season that would catapault Seinfeld to top 10 status!

(More customer reviews)To me, Seinfeld can basically be broken into three parts - seasons one and two where the series is just finding itself, seasons three through seven in which absolutely everything clicks due to the cast's great on-screen rapport and the genius of Larry David, and the last two seasons after Larry David's departure in which the focus shifted somewhat from a satirical look at the uglier side of human nature to zany comedy. Usually every episode was a stand-alone. In fact, some of the early episodes are so stand-alone as to have the audience wonder what happened. In season two's "The Deal", Elaine and Jerry decide to try combining their current friendship ("this") with their past by sleeping together ("that"). As George portends though, it is pretty much impossible to mix "this and that" without eventually losing both. The end of the episode shows Jerry and Elaine pretty much settling into "this that and the other" - a romantic relationship - and then the series just drops the subject like the whole episode never happened.
Occasionally Seinfeld would have a story arc of sorts. For example, in season four the show poked fun at network television executives and their decision-making process when George and Jerry wind up pitching the idea for "a TV show about nothing" to NBC. The two offer up what is essentially the script of the widely acclaimed Seinfeld episode "The Chinese Restaurant". The network suits are unimpressed. As an alternative George and Jerry present a ridiculous plot in which a judge sentences someone who has hit Jerry's car to be his butler. This time the suits are bowled over. Seinfeld also truly had a gift for entertaining while pushing the audience to the brink of offense. "The Bubble Boy" presents the audience with a rude and obnoxious individual as the victim of an immune deficiency disease versus the patient angels that usually play this role. "The Outing" introduced the phrase "not that there's anything wrong with that" into American pop culture and also smartly satirized political correctness. "The Junior Mint" shows George in familiar form when he pleads with Jerry not to intervene to save an artist's life because it would devalue the artist's paintings he has purchased in anticipation of that same artist's death.
The show is often absurd, and though it seems impossible that such a group of self-absorbed people could carry on even the pretense of a multi-year friendship, something about it is oddly familiar to most of us. That is at least partly because of the great interaction between the main characters in which they have both comic and straight-man duties depending on the situation, making their relationships seem real although exaggerated.
As far as the details on the set, it is a 32-disc, two-volume set offering all 180 episodes of the show along with "The Official Coffee Table Book," a 226-page, bound anthology filled with photos, quotes, trivia from every episode, and personal reflections from Jerry. The collectible book also includes a bonus disc featuring "The Roundtable," an hour-long round table discussion among the four cast and creator Larry David reminiscing about the award-winning show's run on air.

(More customer reviews)This was a pivotal year for Seinfeld with nearly 34 million viewers tuning in weekly ! This placed Seinfeld in the #2 rating slot of the season. Season Seven has everything from love, engagements, death, secret ATM codes, the soup Nazi, Marisa Tomei and more! This hilarious DVD is packed with all new special features created in partnership of Jerry Seinfeld.
For a show about nothing, this show has many complex plots, sub-plots, and is very well written and put together. Interestingly, until the public caught onto the series, the television critics were responsible for helping to keep it alive. The critics went on and made the series victorious in every category it was eligible for in the 1st Annual American Television Awards. Seinfeld has won a few Emmy Awards, the George Foster Peabody Award in 1992 and more. Thank God for that because here we are in the 7th Season with many top notch episodes.Certainly, "The Soup Nazi" will go down as an all-time classic in the history of American Television. However they are all great episodes.

(More customer reviews)"Seinfeld" did a pretty good job rebounding from Larry David's departure from the show. Jerry doesn't have as many segments featured around him this season, possibly because of the stepped up demands on his time behind the camera. However, the ones in which he is featured are very funny. For example, Jerry has a check bounce, and the unfriendly merchant puts the returned check on display in his store. Word gets back to Jerry's parents, and they jump to conclusions and decide that Jerry must be broke. Jerry's dad decides to return to work to help support Jerry. Unfortunately, the job his dad takes is working for Elaine, and the situation doesn't work out for anyone.
George, reeling from the mixed emotions he had at losing Susan at the end of season seven, prepares to go on without her, but finds that he really can't. Instead, Susan's parents start a charitable foundation in her memory and have George installed on the board with a large framed photograph of Susan framed on the wall in the room where the foundation meetings are held. Later in the season, George does meet a woman he is interested in, and she seems to be interested in him. George, always trying to better his position through lying but usually just worsening his lot because of it, does the same thing in this instance. The woman believes George is a tourist from Arkansas, and George decides to continue the deception by faking a move to the city so he can continue the relationship. The way George sees it, if you condense everything he has accomplished in the last ten years into just a few weeks, it seems quite impressive.
Elaine enters an alternate universe when she meets Kevin and his friends, who turn out to be the opposite of Jerry and his friends in every way. She likes the fact that Kevin and his friends inspire her to be a better person - they are genuinely kind and helpful and they enjoy reading. However, ultimately Elaine is just not cut out to be among them because of her own selfish personality traits. Perhaps the funniest episode featuring Elaine is "The English Patient", titled after the Best Picture winner of 1996. Her boss, the eccentric Peterman, loves the film and forces her to go see it with him. Elaine hates the movie, and just can't take sitting through it in its entirety without blurting out how she feels. Peterman gives her a chance to do penance for her bad attitude which involves a most hilarious assignment. In "The Susie", due to a series of mix-ups, Elaine winds up with an alternate identity at work - "Susie". Her coworkers begin discussing her as though Elaine and Susie are two different people. Her ultimate solution to the problem is to have Susie "die", complete with a memorial service for the fictitious woman that winds up packed with mourners.
Of course, Kramer's adventures are as unbelievable as ever. This season his apartment turns into "The Red Planet" due to a neon sign from the Kenny Rogers Roasters restaurant shining through his window all night. At first he is doing everything he can to put the restaurant out of business, but when he and Jerry temporarily switch apartments the pressure is off, and Kramer finds himself addicted to the restaurant's food. In another episode, Elaine's boss Jay Peterman is trying to write his memoirs, but finds his own life isn't very interesting. His solution is to buy Kramer's life story and use it as his own. Kramer and Peterman eventually get into an argument over the details of the arrangement, and Kramer answers back by starting his own "Peterman Reality Tours". Finally, Kramer is incensed by the fact that he can no longer find a public place in which he can light up a cigar, and opens a smoking lounge in his own apartment. As a result of all of the exposure to tobacco smoke, Kramer ages prematurely and goes to his attorney friend, the fast-talking and flamboyant Jackie Chiles, to file suit against the tobacco companies. When Kramer negotiates a deal with the tobacco companies without Jackie's approval, Jackie declares the results to be "the most public of his many humiliations".
In summary, this season is very good with more of an emphasis on fast-paced zaniness rather than the comedy that made more of a commentary on human nature that you saw during the Larry David years. However, I still highly recommend it.

Seinfeld - Season 5 (1990) Review

(More customer reviews)This season includes what I think is my all-time favorite episode of Seinfeld: The Opposite. Everything that George has done in his life has turned out to be wrong, and so he decides to do the opposite for what he would normally do. The scene where the woman pushes the chair out to him after he comes on to her is arguably the best scene of any Seinfeld episode.
"The Pie" episode includes the look alike mannequin of Elaine, truly hilarious in that the store-owner puts the mannequin in a compromising position, presumably after Elaine had an altercation in the store. Who can forget the line when Jerry helps Elaine steal the mannequin and is in the car: "I don't know about you, but I'm getting a hankering for some Doublemint gum." Another Classic.
The Fire, when George pushes everyone out of the way(even elderly women) at a kid's birthday party and claims to be leading the way out.....Eric the Clown(which was a foolish name to George), was the one who put out the fire.
The Hamptons have the gang go to the Hamptons for a weekend. And during this time when George is out shopping, the gang sees George's girlfriend topless before he does. After this, Jerry's girlfriend sees George with his swimming trunks down after he was in the pool......and there was shrinkage.
The Cigar Store Indian episode has a female Native American that Jerry likes becomes offended when Jerry gives Elaine a "Cigar Store Indian" as a gift. This episode also has George breaking his parent's coffee table while his parents are away, and when they get back they discover a condom in their bed.
In The Conversion, George falls in love with a girl whose religion is Latvian Orthodox, and then attempts to convert to the religion so that he can be with her. The episode also has Jerry learning about the girl he is dating apparently taking fungicide.
The Wife- Jerry and his girlfriend pose as husband/wife so that they can get a marriage discount at the local dry cleaners. The plan backfires as the dry cleaner discovers the plan and Jerry's female friend thinks she is being used just for the discount, when Jerry takes in other clothes. This is also the episode in which George pees in the shower at the gym and is worried about being discovered.

Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Complete Seventh Season (2009) Review

(More customer reviews)Update: The last episode showed a Seinfeld episode within a larry david CYE episode. It was really wonderful. If you are a Seinfeld fan, you must see the last episode of this season even if you do not like this show. I am a fan of both so was in heaven!

I just watched Larry David do a send up of Michael Richards' infamous "N" word rant to a heckler on this season. David uses the real Richards (Kramer) with the black comedian who lives with him on the show. This is typical of Larry David, who considers nothing too sensitive for comedic exploration. This is one big reason why I love this show. Larry David has to be the most Politically Incorrect Person in America and I love him for it!
There are just so many funny things this season that any reviewer could write a small book about the joys of Season 7. We open with his girlfriend having breast cancer and Larry's wanting to end the relationship. Somehow he manages to find a therapist who ends up blaming him for the cancer! (As a cancer patient, I found this whole cancer episode very funny.) We revisit his mother's death via her tombstone and Larry even manages to get the tombstone cutter mad at him. He becomes persona non grata at his country club after killing another member by making him mad and the guy had high blood pressure (which explodes), all over the inanity of playing through, or not, in golf. He wears women's underwear as an alibi for Suzie's husband when she finds panties in his glove compartment. He and Richard Lewis seriously come unhinged together again--Lewis and David have a friendship which thrives on maximum antagonism and misunderstanding. Then there is the biggest thing going on in Season 7: Larry decides to put on a Seinfeld reunion. He does so as only Larry could where you see the reunion coming together behind the scenes. You are not left out of anything in the entire process. The major thing you discover doing this is how much of Seinfeld was Larry--tons. When George (Jason Alexander) and Larry come together, it is clear that George WAS Larry. They are mirrors of one another, willing to obsess and argue over any minutiae.
This may be the best season yet of this show. I hope Larry David keeps doing it. It is a breath of fresh air among the comedic mediocrity that is the usual tv fare.

(More customer reviews)hey i found some easter eggs on volume one and was wondering if anyone else found different ones other then these :
Camera testing for lighting and coloring.
On disc 1, go to the extras section and press up twice to highlight the chili. Press enter to view 3 minutes of Camera tests for lighting and coloring of the apartment once the show was picked up after the pilot with commentary by i think the show director and maybe the set director i dont know u will just ahve to check.
One on disc 3 of Volume 1, go to Extras, then click on Inside Looks and one of the Chinese crackers becomes active, click on it and you see an Inside look on a discarded episode, "The Bet"
Then on disc 4 of Volume 1, go to Set Up, a stain from George's hospital food is active, click on it and you see a comparison of Seinfeld unrestored and remastered. Haven't found any on disc 2 yet, or any in volume 3.

please tell me if u can find any other ones!
