(More customer reviews)This DVD set compiles all 24 episodes from the hilarious second season of this 90s classic. While season 1 centered around Will trying to bring some levity and street wise knowledge to his snobbish relatives, season 2 shows Will blending in with his new family and forming a more cohesive unit. This season also marked a lot of changes for the show including a brand new more spacious house set, new additions to the supporting cast such as Will's mom and Will's new best friend Tyriq (my personal favorite), the broadening of unique character traits for each family member that would become their trademarks, and the first time the show was ranked in the top 20. Here are the episodes that make up this memorable season;
1. DID THE EARTH MOVE FOR YOU?- Will and his new girlfriend are trapped together during an earthquake.
2. THE MOTHER OF ALL BATTLES- Will and Carlton try to help Ashley with a bully problem.
3. WILL GETS A JOB- Will juggles school and a new job in order to pay for a homecoming party.
4. PSAT PSTORY- Will confident while preparing for college aptitude tests while Carlton is a mess.
5. GRANNY GETS BUSY- Philip can't bear to think of his widow mother having a new man in her life.
6. GUESS WHO'S COMING TO MARRY?- Will's mom forbids Will to attend the interracial marriage of Aunt Janice.
7. THE BIG FOUR-OH- Vivian's 40th birthday marks a crisis as she is determined to perfect her dance skills.
8. SHE AIN'T HEAVY- Will likes the full-figured Dee Dee (Queen Latifah) but doesn't want to ask to the dance.
9. CASED UP- A pompous lawyer (Malcom Jamal Warner) who's dating Hilary sues Will after a car accident.
10. HI-HO SILVER- Will and Carlton think a party guest (Zsa Zsa Gabor) stole their silverware.
11. THE BUTLER DID IT- Carlton rents the house to Bell Biv DeVoe for a video shoot while his parents are away.
12. SOMETHING FOR NOTHING- After winning money at a fundraiser, Will is reluctant to donate it to charity.
13. CHRISTMAS SHOW- The family must come up with heartfelt Christmas gifts after they are robbed.
14. HILARY GETS A LIFE- Hilary must work for a caterer after her credit cards are canceled.
15. MY BROTHER'S KEEPER- Winning at basketball isn't as important to Will as it is to his opponent from Malibu Prep.
16. GEOFFREY CLEANS UP- Geoffrey falls for a neighbor he believes is a housekeeper but who turns out to be rich.
17. COMMUNITY ACTION- Hillary develops a crush on a doctor after being ordered to do community service.
18. ILL WILL- The family fears Geoffrey's memoirs while Will fears having his tonsils removed.
19. EYES ON THE PRIZE- Needing a game show partner, Will must choose between bickering friends Jazz and Tyriq.
20. THOSE WERE THE DAYS- A '60s radical wanted by the FBI influences Will and Carlton to protest a teacher's firing.
21. VYING FOR ATTENTION- Will dislikes his mother's new boyfriend.
22. THE AUNT WHO CAME TO DINNER- Aunt Helen unexpected arrival disrupts Will and Carlton's plans with two women.
23. BE MY BABY TONIGHT- The family fawns over Ashley's new boyfriend but Will chokes when she asks him about sex.
24. STRIP TEASE FOR TWO- Will and Carlton become strippers to regain Vivian's bracelet after getting a bad stock tip.
Extras include cast bloopers and a featurette called 'Best Bits of Bel-Air', with montages, trivia and pop-ups. It is disappointing that Will Smith seems intent on distancing himself from this show now that he has become a big Hollywood star. It would be refreshing to see updated interviews or even an audio commentary or two from the star of the show. In closing, despite the lack of bonus content, this is still arguably the most memorable season from a truly 'fresh' TV show.

Will Smith stars as a teenager from inner city Philadelphia who's sent to California to live with his wealthy relatives in the hopes that they will "straighten him out and teach him some good old-fashioned values. On Season 2, Bel-Air is starting to feel like the hood for Will. His Philly roots run deep, but even a street-smart rapper can wrap his mind around croissants and credit cards and his arms around upscale hotties. Hawaii Five-O - The Complete Third Season (1968) Review

(More customer reviews)Five-0 fans, cop show fans in general, and fans of classic television will thoroughly enjoy HAWAII FIVE-0: The Third Season, which I just received on DVD.
This is the season where the show really hit its stride. Virtually every episode in this season is a winner: solid, suspense-filled, action-packed mysteries with gorgeous scenery, great musical scores, a supremely talented cast and a nice group of guest stars, including Martin Sheen, John Vernon, Vera Miles, Pernell Roberts, Anne Archer, Eric Braeden, Gary Collins, Diana Muldaur, Hume Cronyn, Monte Markham, Sorrell Booke, Tim O' Connor and many more, including the return of Khigh Dhiegh as arch-villain Wo Fat, who appears in not 1 but 2 thrilling espionage adventures.
These episodes appear to be complete based on their 50-minute or more run times, despite CBS DVD's now-standard disclaimer that says "some episodes may be edited from the original network versions". No music appears to be altered, either.
Every single episode from season 3 is included, and as a bonus the episodic promos are featured for most of them. THese promos have not been shown in syndication and probably haven't been seen since their inclusion during the original network run.
The episodes appear to all be digitally remastered as with the previous seasons and have never looked more vibrant, along with animated menus, 6 discs each with 4 episodes and disc art, and a nice summary of each episode on the 3 slim cases housing the discs.
Stories include Wo Fat's attempt to steal counterfeit currency plates (a 2-part adventure); a baseball hero's son is on the run after witnessing a murder (another 2-parter); Kono getting caught by kidnapers while saving a young child, McGarrett's ex-fiancee is framed for murder; Dan runs the show after McGarrett is injured in a bomb blast; Dan is out for vengeance when his girlfriend is brutally murdered, thieves execute a clever diamond heist; a professional assassin falls in love with his intended victim and fakes her death from his boss; and a wily thief taunts McGarrett with Monopoly clues about his heists. Plus many other fantastic episodes. This season is where the show really hit its stride and became the slick, popular crime adventure everyone remembers.
Worth every penny!

Filmed entirely on location in Hawaii, the show followed Jack Lord as he played Steve McGarrett, head of an elite state police unit investigating "organized crime, murder, assassination attempts, foreign agents, felonies of every type." James MacArthur played his second-in-command Danny ("Danno") Williams, with local actors Kam Fong, Zulu, Al Harrington, and Herman Wedemeyer, among others, playing members of the Five-O team. Guest stars included Helen Hayes, Ricardo Montalban, Leslie Nielsen, Herbert Lom, Hume Cronyn among others. McGarrett's nemesis is the evil Wo Fat - "a Red Chinese agent in charge of the entire Pacific Asiatic theatre.

Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman - The Movies (The Movie aka Revelations / The Heart Within) (1999) Review

(More customer reviews)If you are a fan of Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, then you probably wondered what happened at the end of the last series. What happened to the characters after the show ended? How did Katie grow up? Were Colleen and Andrew happily married? Do Sully and Dr. Quinn have any more children? What about Cloud Dancing and Dorothy, Robert E. and Grace?
I too, wondered those questions, until I discovered there were 2 Dr. Quinn movies that took place after the series had been cancelled. I quickly searched everywhere to get copies of them, only to find out they were being released on DVD a few months later.
The first Dr. Quinn movie, referred to here as "Dr. Quinn, the Movie" is also known as "Revolutions". The film begins by bringing us back to Colorado Springs. We see Sully as an important figure on the town council, Dr. Mike still working hard to cure people, and Katie, now a little girl watching her mom at work. The town looks just the same, as do the characters. Just like in the series, a huge event happens; Katie is kiddnapped! Dr. Mike and Sully have to follow her kiddnappers into Mexico, where most of the movie takes place. The settings are beautiful, (mainly filmed in Malibu Creek State Park and Paramount Ranch, in different locations than the series took place) Its riviting and the storyline is MUCH more complex than any stories that took place in the TV series. This was my favorite of the two films.
The second Dr. Quinn movie, "The Heart Within" follows up on Dr. Mike's family in Boston. Brian is a man now (he grew up beautifully, and sooo handsome!) and Colleen and her husband, Dr. Andrew Cook struggle to get Colleen's opinions accepted at Harvard Medical School. Like her mother, Colleen must also fight the prejudice of men as a woman doctor. She must also face Andrew Cook's father, a professor at Harvard. Dr. Quinn's mother is having heart troubles, and needs an experimental surgury to recover, but will it be worth it? Brian sets out to impress his family, and proove he is finally a man. This is a fabulous film, and really brings back what was so important in the TV series, morals, judgements and values, and teaching the difference between right and wrong. I thought that seeing Boston again was wonderful, the sets are amazing, as are the costumes. Dr Quinn has a BEAUTIFUL victorian bustled gown made up of GOLD satins and silks, and Sully is gorgeous in formalwear. Many people think this film was the better of the two, but I thought it left too many loose ends.
These movies are a must for any fan of the series. The characters are still just as memorable as they were through the series, and its a perfect wa to say goodbye to the end of the Dr. Quinn era. I never felt like the season 6 finale was enough, and the actors had no idea that the show was being cancelled; everyone anticipated comming back for a season 7. The two films satisfied my need to say goodbye to the characters, and answered some of my questions. I think these films were well done, for being made so long after the series had been cancelled. They are worth the money!

Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea - Season Three, Volume One (1964) Review

(More customer reviews)Something funny happened to VTTBOTS during the fall of 1966. Season 3 happened! This season was far inferior as compared to seasons 1 and 2 in terms of storylines, production and overall direction, in other words due to budget cuts it fell off drastically. However, as ironic as it may sound this was the season that had to happen. Season 3 in so many ways turned out to be the defining moment for the series. Without a doubt this is perhaps one of the biggest transformations in terms of changing the entire format of a show that had so convincingly started out dealing with serious up to the date issues in the not so distant future such as cold war politics, and underwater science gone awry with the occasional spin on science fiction thrown in for entertainment value. That said, season 3 is always the main topic of conversation among VTTBOTS fans due to its elevated and unrelenting action from its VTTBOTS IN COLOR intro to the action packed art work detailed during the closing credits. The writers on staff during this year walked to the edge, seemingly jumped and delivered such episodes as THE WAX MEN, THE SHADOWMAN, and DOOMSDAY ISLAND, not to mention the werewolf and mummy episodes. The series had turned the corner, grabbed the torch and ran WILD! Seasons 1 and 2 were quality shows with great everything but this season is remembered for it's over the top monsters, it's colorful special effects and most notably the non stop action that prevailed during every episode. Richard Basehart and David Hedison did their best acting this season because they continued to play it straight and convincing even though it had to be killing them. Know matter how far fetched some of the episodes were (THE TERRIBLE TOYS, DEADLY CLOUD, etc.) they played it straight and to the point unlike the buffoonery of BATMAN and LOST IN SPACE. In reality, VOYAGE had become a live-action cartoon that figured all that mattered was to produce on the edge of your seat entertainment each and every week. Irwin Allen took the seaview and her crew where no one had gone before and boy did he deliver. Season 4, although produced on a higher production scale and somewhat better, continued the same trend. Sadly to say it is a shame that VOYAGE wasn't renewed for a 5th season. It would have been fun to see what they would have given us. However, be that as it may, this show, from episode 1 to episode 110 delivered some of the best action-adventure ever produced, that's why so many years after it's last original episode in 1968 we still can talk so fondly about a CLASSIC series!!!!!!

The Hunger: The Complete First Season (1997) Review

(More customer reviews)This was a Showtime series back in the late 90's. It was produced by brothers Ridley and Tony Scott. The show is basically Tales From The Crypt without the in-your-face black humor and less interested in the scares and more interested in the eroticism of its stories. It's a spin off of the Tony Scott directed film of the same name starring David Bowie(who would go on to host the second season's episodes). The whole show is on the same level as that film. It's filmed in the similar smokey style, the sex is explicit and integral, and it involves the supernatural world on some level or another.
Most of the episodes are really entertaining, all only running about 25 minutes, and all are introduced by a very cheeky Terrence Stamp. Tony Scott even takes the directorial reins on the first episode of this season and the next. Some familar faces show up as well like Lena Headey(300, Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles), Karen Black(Trilogy of Terror, Five Easy Pieces), Daniel Craig(what, you live under a rock? He's the new Bond!), Curtis Armstrong(Revenge of the Nerds, Risky Business), and some others. Actually, this may only be interesting to me, but this is the only time you'll ever see Curtis "Booger" Armstrong involved in a sex scene. Whether that's good or simply interesting is up for you to decide.
The transfer for this first season DVD set is pristine. It's fullframe, though. Not sure if it was filmed that way like Tales From The Crypt, but it seems to have been framed with the intention of fullframe. The sound and colors all shine. There are no really good special features to brag about. On the fourth disc you get a 20 minute featurette that goes beind the scenes of the second season and gives you a preview of it as well. There are interviews with the show's creators and producers including Ridley and Tony Scott, but nothing too deep or insightful. You get some tid bits in regard to what their intentions with this show were. It's worth checking out and it does wet your appetite for season two, which I believe was the last season this fine show had.
They better release the second season and not pull an Outer Limits, the other really good anthology show that aired on Showtime. I mean this show is only two seasons long so I would hoep that it's not a problem. We'll see. This is more like the old HBO series The Hitch Hiker then it is The Outer Limits or Tales From The Crypt. So, keep that in mind and remember this show is about dark and supernatural eroticism, so if you're offended by all the boobies and girating man-parts just skip it all together. The sexuality plays a major role in the character development and almost all the themes of every episode. CHECK IT OUT!

With the conclusion of the Season Four cliffhanger, "Cliff's discovery of a dead lady in the Southfork swimming pool," as well as Sue Ellen's endless pursuit of a happy life away from JR, with all of the tragic love affairs, family disputes, and the usual wheeling and dealing that Dallas fans have come to expect and love in this epic TV series. Here's an episode list of Season Five.
DALLAS: THE COMPLETE FIFTH SEASON (26 episodes)
MISSING HEIR: The identify of the dead woman floating in the pool is revealed. J.R. and Cliff accuse each other of murder and both are questioned by police.
GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTON: J.R. and Cliff testify at the inquest. A grieving Sue Ellen takes action to put an end to her marriage.
SHOWDOWN AT SAN ANGELO: J.R. uses Miss Ellie to gain access to the Southern Cross Ranch and his son as Sue Ellen has misgivings about building a new life with Dusty.
LITTLE BOY LOST: Sue Ellen and J.R. begin a custody battle against one another for John Ross, as J.R. snoops for information to unravel Sue Ellen's pursuits.

BLOCKED: J.R. seeks revenge on Dusty Farlow's family business, as he begins buying and storing all the oil that was originally promised to the Farlow company. His deal is to turn over the oil in exchange for his son, John Ross, who is staying at the Farlow's Southern Cross ranch with Sue Ellen.
THE SPLIT: Ellie receives a shocking legal document from Jock which affects the future of Ewing Oil. Jock continues on his mission in South America for the State Department. J.R. has a confrontation with Dusty at the Cotton Bowl stadium.
FIVE DOLLARS A BARREL: J.R. is forced by Cliff's demands for Ewing property after Cliff buys the bank notes on J.R.'s $200 million loan and threatens foreclosure. J.R. plots unsuccesssfully to acquire Gary and Ray's voting shares. Pam is allowed to leave the hospital for a brief visit to Southfork.
STARTING OVER: Miss Ellie wants to help Ray out of his financial problem and uncovers J.R.'s scheme in the process. J.R. consults a broker in New York about selling Ewing stock. Sue Ellen says a good-bye to Dusty. Bobby buys Kristin's baby thinking J.R. is the father. Bobby unintentionally surprises Pam with one thing she's always wanted--a baby.
WATERLOO AT SOUTHFORK: Pam is taking care of Chistopher, the new baby, while Bobby secretly investigates legal possiblities of adoption. A determined Miss Ellie confronts J.R. about his recent schemes involving Ewing Oil funds. She agrees to back him as president of Ewing Oil on the condition that he not persecute Sue Ellen during the divorce hearing. Meanwhile, J.R. plots to have Sue Ellen declared an unfit mother but eventually loses another battle for custody over John Ross. Ray is forced to pull out of his development deal. Jock continues in South America.
BARBECUE TWO: After the divorce hearings, Sue Ellen moves into her new apartment with John Ross. Mitch makes progress in his medical profession. A cable from Jock announces his arrival from South America and Miss Ellie plans a barbecue as a homecoming. The whole family awaits Jock's arrival and even Rebecca Barnes-Wentworth, Clayton Farlow, and Cliff get invited. The happy scene is shattered by a phone call for Miss Ellie, who tells a stunned J.R. of the terrible tragedy.
THE SEARCH: J.R., Bobby, and Ray fly to South America to join in the investigation at the site of the crash of Jock's helicopter. They search in the jungle and even reach the crash site, where Bobby finds Jock's medallion, but nothing else. Miss Ellie leaves before the Ewing boys return with the terrible news.
DENIAL: Jock's death devastates J.R., Ray, and Lucy the most. J.R. seeks consolation with Serena but feels very depressed and neglects Ewing Oil business. Bobby takes over most of the operations. Miss Ellie is pressured by family lawyer Harve Smithfield, and by Bobby, but refuses to allow Jock's will to be read and to have Jock declared legally dead. She says, "as long as I believe he's alive, he's alive." Sue Ellen meets a new man named Tom but he comes on too strong and she rebuffs his advances. Ray refuses to go into another deal with Punk Anderson because he feels devastated by Jock's death. Donna and Ray drift apart because of Donna's success in publishing a book about the late Sam Culver. J.R. tells Sue Ellen he will never let her take John Ross away from him, despite the recent divorce.

HEAD OF THE FAMILY: Ray neglects his ranch duties and is reprimanded by Bobby. Clayton offers his friendship to Sue Ellen. Bobby tells Miss Ellie that if J.R. continues his neglect of Ewing Oil business, he may have to step in as president, but Miss Ellie disagrees. Lucy gets an offer for a modelling portfolio. Bobby tells Pam that they got Christopher through private adoption and that his parents were a couple from Louisiana who had been killed in a car crash. Sue Ellen sees Cliff. Donna decides to write another book on the late Sam Culver.
THE PHOENIX: J.R. finally returns to the business and brings John Ross into the office for the first time. Bobby has a fist fight with Ray over Ray's negligence in running the ranch. Pam is concerned about whether Christopher came from a healthy family and pressures Bobby to tell her about who Christopher's parents were. J.R. is afraid the reading of Jock's will is going to divide Ewing Oil shares in a way he won't like. Lucy's photographer friend Roger starts following her. Cliff gets Afton a singing job. Ray has an extramarital affair with a woman from the bar. J.R. sleeps with Marilee Stone and convinces her to talk the cartel into doing business with Ewing Oil again.
MY FATHER, MY SON: J.R. pressures Donna to talk Ray into giving up his voting shares. J.R. sees Cliff and Sue Ellen together in a restaurant, hires a detective to keep Sue Ellen's house under surveillance, and tell Afton he's in love with Sue Ellen. Donna leaves for Laredo to do research for her book. A lawyer tells Bobby he will have to ask Sue Ellen for permission to adopt Christopher because Sue Ellen is the sister of Chistopher's mother [Kristin]. Lucy learns Mitch is dating Evelyn Michaelson and, feeling abandoned, turns to Roger. J.R., John Ross, and Sue Ellen spend time together at a fun park and J.R. invites Sue Ellen to dinner at Southfork. She refuses after some hesitation.
ANNIVERSARY: J.R. hatches a plot against Cliff with the help of Wally Hampton, chairman of one of the biggest conglomerates in the South-West. If Cliff accepts Hampton's offer for Chief Operating Officer, he will have to move to Tulsa,Okahoma. Rebecca is reluctant to see Cliff go but leaves the choice up to him. Evelyn Michaelson confronts Lucy [who is separated fro Mitch] and tells her she wants Mitch. Donna discovers Ray in bed with the woman from the bar, thanks to another plot by J.R. Bobby buys Pam an aerobics business. J.R. tries to win Sue Ellen back. He shows her a video from the late 1960's where Sue Ellen is 20 years old, appearing in the Miss Texas contest. That is how they first met because J.R. was one of the judges in the contest.
ADOPTION:
THE MAELSTROM: Sue Ellen tells Clayton that Kristin and J.R. were lovers. Ray recovers from Jock's death and reconciles with Donna. J.R. learns Bobby paid Sue Ellen a visit and accuses him of poisioning her mind against him. Mitch pressures Lucy for divorce. Lucy turns to Roger. Jeff Farraday asks Bobby for a meeting. J.R. meets Cliff's half-sister Katherine.
THE PRODIGAL:Rebecca gives Cliff autonomy in running Wentworth Tool and Dye, which upsets Katherine. Donna learns during her book research that the late Sam Culver and Jock had Sam's uncle Jonas Culver committed to a mental institution to get his oil-rich land. Jonas later killed himself. The episodes are AS COMPLETE as when they first ran on network television back in 70- 71 season. They are hilarious as ever. Worth every cent. Took a long time to see this show on dvd, and well worth the wait. Although there are no xtras on the disc. IT doesn't matter, we have all the xtras we need on season 1. Buy them both, you won't regret it. PERFECT PICTURE and SOUND! BRAVO PARAMOUNT!

If you are like me, you think of Siegfried and not Doc Bricker when you think of Bernie Kopel. the only character that comes to mind when you think of Dick Gautier is Hymie the Robot. the great Edward Platt will always be The Chief and Barbara Feldon's character 99 will always be the ever faithful comic foil and love interest to Maxwell Smart, Secret Agent 86 of CONTROL.
All of Get Smart's legion of fans want to see the return of Leadside, and the Tequila Mockingbird, and the Craw NOT the Craw!, and Agent 13, and Stocker, and Harry Hoo The Famous Hawaiian Detective, and the Groovy Guru, and Destructo, and Mary Jack Armstrong the Strongest Woman Alive, and the lovable King of Coronia, and TBO The Big One, and well the list can and does go and on!
Please, please give us EVERY season of Get Smart on DVD! I am begging you PLEASE! PLEASE!! PLEASE!!!

(More customer reviews)These terrific DVDs are enhanced by vintage clips -- promos and commercials with the stars; a half-hour cast guest spot on "Stump the Stars"; Carl Reiner and company gleefully receiving some of their 15 Emmys. Hidden features show the cast selling cigarettes for Kent, a loyal sponsor.
Stars of the time such as Joey Bishop, Lucille Ball, Sebastian Cabot, Bob Crane and Jane Wyatt pop up, making the sets delightful time capsules.
Dick Van Dyke and Reiner do leisurely commentaries on a handful of key episodes, spending a lot of time on what happened to the cast and crew -- especially who is "still with us," and who is not. They swap a few great stories, and have vivid memories of making the episodes. "Stan Laurel should have sued me," Van Dyke says as he watches himself do a bit. "If only life could be so simple," Reiner sighs as one plot unfolds.
Co-star Rose Marie, ex-child actor Larry Mathews and "neighbor" Ann Morgan Guilbert chat over a few other shows. In one case, Rose Marie plows ahead with a hilarious story long after the episode has ended.
While the audio commentaries are new, other recollections come via footage from what must have been a terrific 1994 TV special about the show. Executive producer Sheldon Leonard and "human joke machine" Morey Amsterdam, both of whom have since passed away, have their say in these clips.
Images and sound are surprisingly good. The restored video has decent contrasts over a pleasing gray scale, with minor wear surfacing here and there. The look falls comfortably between flat and silvery. The 2.0 mono ably conveys dialog, canned laughter and Earle Hagan's bouncy theme music.
The first DVD set includes "Head of the Family," Reiner's flat, almost surreal 1960 pilot for the show, in which he played the lead against a different cast. No network was buying. "The reason Carl Reiner's show failed was Carl Reiner," hot-handed producer Leonard recalled in 1994.
The world-famous ottoman pratfall appears on season 1's cover, in one of those almost 3-D moving photos. Trivia comes in segments called "Ottoman Trippers."

Phillips and future superstar-teen idol Raven Symone joining the cast. Also,we,who were fans of NBC's The Cosby Show since its 1984 premiere,welcome back Lisa Bonet as a regular. Denise Huxtable Kendall(Bonet) and her new husband navy Lieutenant Martin(Phillips) pay a visit to the Huxtable home with previously divorced Martin's 3-year-old daughter Olivia(RS) in tow. Of course Cliff(Bill Cosby) and Clair(Phylicia Rashad) were at first shockingly surprised but slowly adjusted to Denise's new roles as wife and stepmother. Ten-year-old Rudy(Keshia Knight Pulliam) is no longer cute,but Cliff just simply adores the cuteness of Olivia. Also we'll see Theo(Malcolm Jamal Warner) finally getting his own place,but not for long. He wasn't too far away from his parents' Brooklyn,New York home. He wound up moving back in with his parents and at one point this season,Clair had no desire to take Theo back(she and Cliff were upset with Theo at the time). In fact,at that time,he was living with his girlfriend Justine(the late Michelle Thomas) and her folks. Also,we see Denise,with Olivia,babysitting her sister Sondra's(Sabrina LeBeauf) twins Winnie and Nelson who themselves,wreck havoc in the Tibidaux household while Sondra and her husband Elvin(Geoffrey Owens) are out for the evening. Denise was just driven crazy by the obnoxious behavior of her niece and nephew. Vanessa(Tempest Bledsoe) and her friends go out-of-state(unbeknownst to Cliff and Clair) to attend a concert. But their tickets wound up being stolen and the girls had no transportation back to New York. Clair was so pissed that she grounded 16-year-old Vanessa. Elvin volunteers as an elf for a Christmas benefit. The other episodes are great. For the fifth and final time,TCS finished at #1 this season,this time tied with ABC's Roseanne,which was also produced by Tom Werner,Marcy Carsey and Caryn Sneider Mandabach. Bonet stayed on TCS as a regular for season 7,but she would be gone thereafter.

(More customer reviews)The good folks at Image Entertainment have done it again! This third-season, multi-disc boxed set of CBS-TV's "The Dick Van Dyke Show" (1961-1966) replicates the outstanding quality and tender-loving-care of its two predecessors.
This Season 3 package consists of five digital discs, each receiving its own "ThinPak" case, with appropriate (and very nice-looking!) high-resolution artwork and accompanying episode information. The outer slipcase features the "old-time TV" look, complete with a "lenticular" (3-D style) image adorning the mock "TV screen". The snappy-looking 3-D image offers up a "motion" picture of Rob Petrie (Dick Van Dyke) falling out of a jury box (from the episode "One Angry Man", which actually was not a Season 3 episode, but rather a program from the first season of the show).
By the way, it's also worth mentioning here that these season-three discs are all "Region Free" (or "Region Zero") encoded. This is a change from the two earlier boxed sets of this series, which were only encoded for "Region 1" playback.

This third-season set gives us 32 top-notch episodes with Rob and Laura Petrie and associated friends and neighbors (even though the packaging says only 31), including the hysterical "That's My Boy??", in which Rob is convinced he's brought the wrong baby home from the hospital. Also in Season 3: "October Eve", "Laura's Little Lie", "Big Max Calvada", and another of my all-time faves, "I'd Rather Be Bald Than Have No Head At All".
All of these episodes are uncut and unedited. The FULL shows, as filmed in 1963-1964, are presented here.
Picture quality is excellent throughout this set. These black-and-white shows have never looked so good! Good resolution, detail, and contrast. The original Mono sound is used, and it suffices just fine. The audio comes to us via robust Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono soundtracks.
A "Play All Episodes" option is also available (from the Main Menu). This feature makes it nice for those non-stop DVD-on-DVD marathons that every self-respecting fan of "Great TV" everywhere should subject themselves to at least once every few weeks! :)
BONUS FEATURES ....... Like the first two boxed seasons, this 3rd Dick Van Dyke Show set is jammed-packed with bonus material. Here's a rundown:

On June 5,First Look Entertainment put out seasons 3 and 4 of NBC's The Cosby Show and on November 6,we TCS fans will once again double our pleasure with the releases of seasons 5 and 6. I'd assume the discs will be housed singly in plastic cases like the season 3 and 4 sets. In 1988,TCS made its syndication debut on various independent stations all over America and other countries. Comedian Bill Cosby,the series' star and co-creator,promoted the syndication debut in magazine/newspaper advertisement and television commercial. He said,"We'll be coming to your house five nights a week instead of just one. And if that's not enough,you should consider moving in with us.". The first station I remember syndicating TCS was Seacaucus,New Jersey-based WWOR(I had that station in my native New Jersey). WWOR probably still airs TCS today. Around summer 1988,writers for many network series went on strike until that September,the latest. So on October 6,1988,season 5 premiered with the episode TOGETHER AGAIN AND AGAIN. We see recent high school graduate Theodore Aloysius "Theo" Huxtable(Malcolm Jamal Warner) entering New York University with his girlfriend Justine(the late Michelle Thomas,recurringly). But Theo hasn't,at least not yet,left the Huxtable nest. We also see Vanessa(Tempest Bledsoe) and her friends Janet and Kara,forming a vocal group called The Lipsticks and entering a talent contest. However,their busty appearances and sexy movements shock Vanessa's mother Clair(Phylicia Rashad). Cliff(Cosby),I must admit,was a tadbit shocked himself. Fifteen-year-old Vanessa also breaks curfew by staying out ridiculously late with a boyfriend(she was just in his car with him). As for The Lipsticks,Rudy(Keshia Knight Pulliam) thought they were "hot"! Theo and two buddies throw a party in the Huxtable home in Cliff's and Clair's absence intended for only six people,Theo,his buddies and their girlfriends. Before they knew it,there were about 200 people at the party,wrecking havoc. Cliff and Clair returned home from an overnight getaway and were flabbergasted by the mess left made by those responsible. Cliff "sends away" Theo. Theo also requests permission from Cliff and Clair for a summer trip to Cairo(this is the season finale). Lisa Bonet as Denise Huxtable,the second of Cliff's and Clair's five children,continues to occasionally appear. She is working various jobs while still studying at Hillman College. At this time,Bonet was written out,at least as a regular,of the TCS spinoff A DIFFERENT WORLD. The most joyous moment of all this season,first aired November 10,1988,is when Cliff and Clair become first-time grandparents of twins Winnie and Nelson Tibidaux,born unto Sondra(Sabrina LeBeauf) and her husband Elvin(Geoffrey Owens). The other episodes are great. In the opening montage,there are no personal scenes. The names of the cast rapidly appear as the actors themselves. They are dressed in tropical-themed wardrobes,dancing barefoot on a veranda in a tropical setting. A symphony orchestra plays the theme this season. But in the closing montage,the theme is a little different,for it contains a style that is more like jazz. Rudy,at this time,is age 9,as is KKP. She's still sweet and lovable but no longer cute. Theo is now a man,since he had just turned 18 as did MJW. Also we'll see Clair celebrating her 46th birthday. She and Cliff indulge in strawberry shortcake. This is just another one of their romantic moments. In reality,Rashad was age 40. Guest star opera singer Placido Domingo even sings to Clair in that episode. Yes,even the cast can get moral support from real-life family members. Rashad's sister Debbie Allen,late of NBC's FAME,guest-starred as an aerobics instructor for a class Clair is taking. Clair was trying to lose some weight to fit an old dress again that she has and loves. Allen subsequently worked for NBC,directing some episodes of THE FRESH PRINCE OF BEL AIR. She directed a few FAMILY TIES episodes also. John Amos,late of CBS's GOOD TIMES,guest-starred as Cliff's physician. For the fourth time,TCS finished at #1 this season. By this time,I believe TCS was at least nominated for a multitude of Emmys.

The Cosby Show appeared on NBC from 1984 to 1992, becoming one of the most popular programs in the history of television. The Dick Van Dyke Show - Season Four (1961) Review

(More customer reviews)The Season-Four boxed set of "The Dick Van Dyke Show" from Image Entertainment lives up to the excellence of its siblings -- smart and stylish in every respect.
There are 32 splendiferous episodes on tap in this 5-Disc DVD set (all of the shows being presented "uncut", as originally aired in 1964 and 1965). Some of the many funny-bone-tickling episodes that await you in Season #4 include: "The Ghost Of A. Chantz", "4-And-A-Half", "Pink Pills And Purple Parents", "The Impractical Joke", "The Case Of The Pillow", and the hilarious "Never Bathe On Saturday", which features Laura Petrie getting her toe stuck in a bath spout.
This DVD set comes handsomely boxed in comparable eye-appealing packaging to that of the previous entries in the series from Image. The outer box looks like an old 1960s television set, with a 3D "motion" type insert card placed inside the "TV" on the box.
Season 4's slipcase picture shows Laura Petrie (Mary Tyler Moore) struggling with the inflatable fishing boat that's contained in a package she "accidentally" opens in "The Curious Thing About Women" (which is an episode from Season #1).
Individual slim-type ("ThinPak") plastic cases are used to hold each of the set's five discs (with each disc's label displaying unique and attractive artwork). Ample episode information is provided on the cover of each case (episode numbers and titles, synopses, air dates, film dates, and chapter selections). Very nice photos adorn the case covers as well. The discs are "Region Free" (i.e., Region "Zero").
VIDEO .... Like the Dick Van Dyke season sets before it, Season 4 boasts of A-1, Grade-A type digital transfers. These black-and-white programs never looked so fine. You'll still run into an occasional bit of dirt and/or grainy image, but overall these shows look terrific on these DVDs!
The very good video detail within these shows is the result of the remastering and clean-up that was undertaken here, with imagery exhibiting a sharpness that you'll never see on any VHS release of this TV series. These shows are a joy to watch on DVD, again and again.
AUDIO .... The sound comes through clean and clear via each disc's quite acceptable Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono soundtrack.
MENUS .... An easy-to-navigate Menu system is employed here. The Main Menu allows access to any of that disc's six or seven different episodes, with separate Sub-Menus offered for each program. Each Sub-Menu displays that program's Chapter Selection, plus an "Extras" area, which will take you to any applicable "Bonus" features for the episode in question. A "Play All" feature is also included from the Main Menu. Unfortunately (for many people), no subtitles or captions of any kind have been included here (or on any of the other Dick Van Dyke Show sets issued by Image).
BONUS FEATURES....................
>> Two episodes have Audio Commentary Tracks attached to them. Dick Van Dyke and Carl Reiner gab and reminisce during their commentaries for the episodes "Baby Fat" and "Never Bathe On Saturday". Good stuff here with Dick & Carl.
"Baby Fat" actually has two separate Commentary Tracks, in fact -- one by Dick and Carl; plus another audio track featuring the voice of writer Garry Marshall.
>> The complete, uncut CBS-TV documentary "The Dick Van Dyke Show Remembered" (made in 1994). Many clips from this same program are used throughout the different Van Dyke Show boxed sets that Image has released. But here you can see the whole documentary all at once. A darn good program too. Running time -- 46:35.
>> Video clip from TV-Land's animated program, "The Alan Brady Show" (length -- 1:15).
>> Cast Photos and "Proofs", taken by actor Roddy McDowall (length -- 0:48).
>> Clip from the "DVD Exclusive Awards" (2003), where Image's boxed set of "The Dick Van Dyke Show Season One" took home the award for "Best Overall DVD for a TV Program". This clips lasts 3:13, and features Dick Van Dyke and disc producer Paul Brownstein accepting the award. Dick provides some funny ad-libbed comments during this entertaining video bonus.
>> Dick Van Dyke sings the Van Dyke Show's theme song at The Hollywood Bowl (in August 2001). Mary Tyler Moore also appears in this video clip, which lasts 2:26. Dick (and the other singers who join him to belt out this cute tune) sound pretty good too.
BTW, if you've got the Season-Three Image boxed set of "The Dick Van Dyke Show", you can hear Dick (solo) singing this very same ditty at the end of one of the Commentary Tracks for a third-season episode.
>> Clip from the TV series "Diagnosis Murder", in which Dr. Sloan (Dick Van Dyke) encounters "Rob Petrie". This inventive 35-second video snippet features "Rob" as a disc jockey in the episode "One Hundred Terrible Hours" as "Dr. Sloan" passes by him in the hallway. It's a cleverly-conceived way of putting both Sloan and Petrie in the scene at the same time.

(More customer reviews)A very surprizingly addictive show. The characters grow on you from the start and make you interested in what will happen next to the characters, personally and professionally. Although it can be a bit predictable at times, it has a freshness to its presentation that will get you through wanting more. I worry that the show walks a thin line of being completely unrealistic as far as case subject matter. " is everyone going to be innocent and wrongly accused?" Where are the bad guys?I understand a noble,honest public defender..who happens to only get innocent and wrongly accused clients? That is Matlock/Murder She wrote cheesey and not what I expect from todays law dramas.Out of the whole first season, I think Mark only had one really "bad" guy. Still a great show, really clean cut; can only get better.

Dallas - The Complete Seventh Season (1978) Review

(More customer reviews)"Dallas," though one of CBS's top-rated shows, was showing a slight drop in the ratings at the start of the show's SIXTH season.
The producers decided to add some controversy and spice to the show with a May-December romance between Sue Ellen (Linda Gray) and her son's trainer, Peter (special guest Christopher Atkins). There is also the end of the beloved marriage of Bobby (Patrick Duffy) and Pam (Victoria Principal) and the rekindling of a romance between Bobby and old flame Jenna Wade, now played by Priscilla Presley. The third highlight of the season sees the marriage of Ewing matriarch Miss Ellie (Barbara Bel Geddes) and Clayton Farlow (Howard Keel).
Of course, of all the characters, the dominant character is still J.R. Ewing, superbly played by Larry Hagman. Hagman is given the best lines, indicative of his character's devilish persona, willing to do anything to keep Ewing Oil on top.
Woe to anyone that stands in his way...and that applies to family members, too.
Linda Gray has really grown as an actress and she gets many chances to show her thespian skills. Besides that, her distinctive walk, along with her marvelous figure, is presented in several key scenes around the Ewing pool.
With those three aforementioned major plot developments propelling much of the season, it would be easy to concentrate on those solely; however, this is "Dallas" and, like the state in which the soap takes place, is bigger and other story lines and characters routinely take center stage.
Steve Kanaly and Susan Howard (Ray and Donna Krebbs) are highlighted as their characters get embroiled in a case of euthanasia. Guest star Kate Reid is memorable as Ray's Aunt Lil.
Morgan Brittany shines as Katherine Wentworth, Pam's sister, who will do anything (including sleep with J.R) to conquer Bobby.
Ken Kerchevel's Cliff Barnes is still as social-climbing as ever, willing to sacrifice his morals, his family, and even his girlfriend Afton (Audrey Landers) to achieve his place in Dallas society and power.
Speaking of Afton, she continues to be the silent conscious of the show, being the first to notice Katherine's deviousness, Pam's inability to shake her divorce with Bobby, and her own dwindling relationship with Barnes. Landers' skill as an actress, as well as her "telling eyes," is showcased well this season.
J.R.'s secretary, Sly (Deborah Rennard), finds her loyalty tested but turns the tables on her blackmailer and becomes her boss's undercover agent.
New and equally interesting characters are introduced. As mentioned above, Peter becomes the "young stud" in Sue Ellen's life. Though Atkins does an admirable job as the Sue Ellen's suitor, his boyish looks betray him. He appears to be more like seventeen than his actual twenty-two years. His "intimacies" with the forty-something Gray almost border on the absurd.
40's movie star Alexis Smith joins the cast as Clayton's off-center and mysterious sister, Jessica. It is ironic that both she and Keel were MGM stars during that studios heyday.
The show would not be complete without appearances of other actors in their respective recurring roles: Fern Fitzgerald (the sexy Marilee Stone), Don Star (Jordan Lee), Morgan Woodward (Punk Anderson), Dennis Patrick (Vaughn Leland), and my personal favorite Pat Colbert (Dora Mae, the hostess of The Cattleman's Club).
As far as the DVD quality as a whole is concerned, the picture transfer could be better, befitting the status of the show in television history. If any show deserves re-mastery, it is the Lorimar production.
Also, there is only one extra: an interesting, albeit short, look at the men behind the music of "Dallas."

Out of the fire, into the frying pan: Southfork in flames is just the start of a season of hot-blooded romance and sizzling schemes. Pam and Bobby split up and other folks team up: Miss Ellie with Clayton Farlow and Sue Ellen with a hunky Dallas darlin' young enough to be her son. Meanwhile, it seems the brothers Ewing may be sharing control of Ewing Oil, guiding the company to more and mightier millions. But sharing makes J.R. as happy as a wildcatter drilling dust, so you can just imagine the conniving to come. Yup, Season 7 is a web of backroom deals and courtroom drama, jealousy and treachery, blackmail and bourbon. And in the center sits J.R., hiding his guile behind a big ol' Texas smile.
