9. The One Where Underdog Gets Away: Everyone's plans for Thanksgiving fall through one-by-one, culminated by the Underdog balloon escaping from the Macy's Parade. Meanwhile, Ross petitions Carol for "belly time" so he can bond.
10. The One With The Monkey: Ross gets a pet monkey with which he experiences the typical struggles of a new relationship. Meanwhile, the gang throws a "dateless" New Year's Eve party, but end up bringing dates anyway.
11. The One With Mrs. Bing: Monica and Phoebe cause a guy to have an accident and begin a "relationship" with him while he's in a coma. Meanwhile, Chandler's famous trash-novelist mom (Morgan Fairchild) comes for a visit.
12. The One With The Dozen Lasagnas: Rachel's boyfriend Paolo comes on to Phoebe while she is giving him a massage, prompting Rachel to swear off all men, including Ross. Meanwhile, Monica has made all these lasagnas...

22. The One With The Ick Factor: Monica gets involved with a guy she thinks is a college senior, only to find out he's a senior in high school. Meanwhile, Phoebe fills in as Chandler's assistant and finds out that none of his co-workers like him.
23. The One With The Birth: Carol is in labor, but the childish competition between Ross and Susan forces her to throw them out. When they get locked in a janitor's closet with Phoebe, they fear they may miss the birth of their child.

As the Godfather saga was the view of the mafia from the executive suite, this series is a complex tale of the mafia from the working man's point of view. If you've never watched this show, you're in for an extended treat. Yes, there is violence and nudity, but it is never gratuitous and is needed to contrast Tony Soprano, the thinking man's gangster, with the reality of the life he has been born to and, quite frankly, would not ever have left even knowing how so many of his associates have ended up. Tony Soprano can discuss Sun Tzu with his therapist, then beat a man to death with a frying pan in a fit of rage, and while dismembering and disposing of the body with his nephew, take a break, sit down and watch TV while eating peanut butter out of the jar, and give that nephew advice on his upcoming marriage like they had just finished a Sunday afternoon of viewing NFL football. Even Carmella, his wife, when given a chance for a way out, finds that she really prefers life with Tony and the perks that go with it and looking the other way at his indiscretions versus life on her own. If you followed the whole thing, you know how it ends. If you didn't, trust me you've never seen a TV show end like this.
I'm looking forward to seeing all 86 episodes together over a short time period versus the very annoying long time periods between seasons that we had after the first three seasons. Remember, it took eight years (1999-2007) for the show to go from season one to season six.

With happenings like Chandler spending Thanksgiving in a box, Phoebe becoming a surrogate mother for her half-brother, Ross getting married and saying Rachel's name instead of Emily's and of course, Monica and Chandler hooking up, the fourth season of Friends contains some of the show's best moments, which makes it a must have for any Friends fan.
1. "The One With the Jellyfish"- In Montauk, Ross dumps bald Bonnie after kissing Rachel, who gave him an 18-page letter that he fell asleep reading. Chandler pees on Monica's jellyfish sting.
2. "The One With the Cat"- Phoebe finds a stray cat and she thinks that it's the reincarnation of her mother. Joey gets locked in his entertainment center that he is trying to sell, while the potential buyer robs the apartment.
3. "The One With the Cuffs"- Chandler and Joey furnish their looted apartment with a canoe and some patio furniture. Rachel's boss, Joanna, who is seeing Chandler, leaves him pantless and handcuffed in her office.
4. "The One With the Ballroom Dancing"- Treeger, the building's superintendent, threatens to evict the girls unless Joey can teach him to dance.
5. "The One With Joey's New Girlfriend"- Ross and Rachel attempt to make each other jealous with their new significant others. It turns out that Ross's new squeeze just wants him as a babysitter and Rachel's beau is an immature thief. Phoebe discovers her sexy phlegm voice while she has a cold.
6. "The One With the Dirty Girl"- Ross dates Cheryl (Rebecca Romijn-Stamos), a paleontology doctoral candidate, who happens to be very sloppy. Chandler buys Kathy a copy of "The Velveteen Rabbit" as a birthday gift.
7. "The One Where Chandler Crosses the Line"- Kathy becomes aware of Chandler's feelings for her and lets him know that she feels the same way by making out with him.
8. "The One With Chandler in a Box"- It's Thanksgiving and as a punishment for Chandler for kissing Kathy, Joey makes him stay in a box. Monica injures her eye, goes to the ophthalmologist and the doctor turns out to be Richard's son.
9. "The One Where They Are Going to Party"- Monica's scathing review of a local restaurant gets her hired as a chef. Mike "Gandalf" Ganderson ("only, like, the funniest guy in the world" according to Ross) is coming to town. Joanna is killed by a cab.
10. "The One With the Girl From Poughkeepsie"- Monica is sick and tired of the staff at the restaurant treating her so badly, so she decides to hire Joey just to fire him in front of the crew to show them how tough she can be.
11. "The One With Phoebe's Uterus"- Frank Jr. and Alice ask Phoebe if she'll be a surrogate mother for them. Ross gets Joey a job as a tour guide for the museum.
12. "The One With the Embryos"- It is Rachel and Monica vs. Chandler and Joey in a game to find out who knows who the best ("He's a transponster!"). If the girls win, the guys have to get rid of their chick and duck. But if the guys win, they get the big, purple apartment. Phoebe undergoes implantation of Alice's embryos and later finds out that she is pregnant.
13. "The One With Rachel's Crush"- Kathy's sexy appearance in a play has got Chandler worried about her faithfulness. Rachel tries desperately and clumsily to get the attention of Joshua, a newly divorced client.
14. "The One With Joey's Dirty Day"- Rachel asks Ross to take out Mr. Waltham's niece from England, Emily. Monica and Phoebe try to help Chandler get over his breakup with Kathy by taking him to a strip club. Charlton Heston guest stars.
15. "The One With All the Rugby"- Trying to impress Emily's rugby playing friends, Ross takes up the sport.
16. "The One With the Fake Party"- When pregnant vegetarian Phoebe is tortured by her cravings for meat, Joey offers to trade dietary preferences with her. Rachel is determined to invite Joshua to an unplanned bon voyage party for Emily.
17. "The One With the Free Porn"- Joey and Chandler come upon an unscrambled porn channel and decide not to turn off the TV, in case that would make them lose it. Phoebe finds out that she's having triplets.
18. "The One With Rachel's New Dress"- Ross gets nervous when Emily hits it off with Susan (his ex-wife's lesbian lover).
19. "The One With All the Haste"- Rachel is irked by the singing neighbor across the alley and the battle to re-swap the apartments is on. Ross asks Emily to marry him.
20. "The One With All the Wedding Dresses"- Rachel blurts out an impromptu proposal to Joshua, which scares him off. Monica and Phoebe hang out in wedding dresses.
21. "The One With All the Invitations"- Writing out invitations to his wedding causes Ross to have flashbacks about his relationship with Rachel.
22. "The One With the Worst Best Man Ever"- Phoebe's horrible mood swings have Rachel and Monica walking on eggshells. Joey doesn't know what happened to Emily's missing wedding ring.
23. "The One With Ross's Wedding"- The gang, sans a pregnant Phoebe and a heartbroken Rachel, head to England for Ross and Emily's wedding. But Rachel decides to fly to London herself and tell Ross that she loves him. She ends up losing her nerve to tell him when she gets there, but, of course, he ends up saying her name during the ceremony.

Personally, I consider this to be Friends' best season for two reasons. The first one being the great episodes showcasing the beginning of Ross and Rachel's relationship ("The One Where Ross Finds Out," "The One With the List," "The One With the Prom Video" and "The One Where Ross and Rachel...You Know") and secondly, the hilarious Chandler and Joey moments during the time when Joey's moving out ("The One Where Joey Moves Out," "The One Where Eddie Moves In" and "The One Where Dr. Ramoray Dies"). This is a must have for any Friends fan!
Just so you know what episodes you'll be getting in this collection, here's a complete list:
1. "The One With Ross' New Girlfriend"- Rachel is mad when Ross brings home his new girlfriend, Julie. Phoebe chops off Monica's hair.
2. "The One With the Breast Milk"- When Rachel discovers that Monica has been spending a lot of time with Julie, she's jealous. Ross is shocked when Phoebe tastes Carol's breast milk before she gives it to baby Ben.
3. "The One Where Heckles Dies"- The cranky upstairs neighbor, Mr. Heckles dies and leaves Monica and Rachel his belongings in his apartment.
4. "The One With Phoebe's Husband"- The gang finds out about Phoebe's secret- she married her gay Canadian friend so he could get a green card. Rachel tries to keep Ross and Julie apart.

12. "The One After the Super Bowl" Joey dates a crazed fan of his who thinks he's really Dr. Drake Ramoray, the character he plays on Days of Our Lives. The gang visits Marcel on the set of his movie.
13. "The One With the Prom Video"- Monica's parents bring her a box of her stuff from when she was in high school, which includes a tape of Monica and Rachel getting ready for the prom. Joey gets Chandler a best bud bracelet that he hates.
14. "The One Where Ross and Rachel...You Know"- Monica falls for Dr. Richard Burke (Tom Selleck). Ross and Rachel go on their first date.
15. "The One Where Joey Moves Out"- Joey moves out of the apartment he shares with Chandler after a co-star on Days of Our Lives offers him a bigger and better place.

Alfred Hitchcock - The Masterpiece Collection Review

(More customer reviews)There are both pros and cons to this remastered/rereleased Hitchcock boxed set. The pros are that all have been remastered (all of them were anamorphic despite what other reviews have stated except for the first edition of "Vertigo" on DVD--read the boxes of the original releases or better yet watch them)and the remastering job has resulted in colors being bolder in many cases (Do a comparison as I did)with images being crisper and with slightly better resolution. There is an exception to this--"The Man Who Knew Too Much" actually looks worse than the previous release. While colors are good the image clarity and detail are off. I'm not exactly sure what happened here but it must have been during the Telecine transfer process from film to video (and then DVD). This is based on a head-to-head comparison with the other edition of the film and isn't based on a bad DVD. Instead, it's related to the transfer not being quite as good for this new updated version. So if "Man" is one of your favorites I'd advise you to keep the previous DVD. Also, there's no paper inserts with chapter stops listed as on previous editions. Also, a couple of films didn't have a huge difference but they were still noticeable for the most part.
The DVDs are housed four to a DVD "book" with two on each side one on top of the other. I know what you're thinking--they'll get scratched--but I didn't notice any potential for that. Still, you'll need to be careful taking them out and putting them in and these holders are not as secure as the individual keep cases. Each cover is decorated with images from the original posters for each movie overlapping each other.
Extras are exactly the same as the original releases for each disc. "The Making of Psycho" and "All About 'The Birds'" which were on the original discs themselves have been relocated to the bonus discs. There's also three new bonuses included. The first is a 15 minute excerpt from the AFI tribute focusing primarily on Hitch's droll comments when he accepted the Lifetime Achievement Award. I've long wanted to have this on DVD but do wish that Universal had licensed the entire AFI tribute as it was a charming and worthwhile evening. The second extra is a 30 minute interview featuring Pia Lindstrom and William K. Everson and is a vintage videotape interview with Hitchcock from the 70's. It's quite a revealing interview with Hitchcock charming the hosts as usual. He discusses quite frankly his likes (pre-production) and dislikes (method actors like Montgomery Clift). The third bonus is a 36 page booklet that, like the booklet that came with "Jaws", is hardly essential. It does include credits for each movie, some photos and brief comments about each film. It'll be something you might look at once or twice.
The box itself has a crushed velvet exterior and is quite attractive. The cover has a door that slides into the box to access the movies. So the pros are better transfers for most of the films. If you don't have all of Hitch's movies on DVD yet, this is a great deal. The new extras aren't worth the price of admission if you don't already have all of these and while they look better, the difference may not be all that striking to you. With the release of Hitch's TV show and other new stuff coming out, it's a matter of spending where one can.
I gave this set 4 stars for two reasons; 1) There are a number of so-so Hitchcock films in this set ("Torn Curtain", "Topaz", "Marnie" which is one that, despite Robin Wood's absurd arguments to the contrary, I find to be substandard Hitchcock and the enjoyable but light "Family Plot"). 2)"The Man Who Knew Too Much" should look BETTER than the previous edition but, in fact, looks a bit worse for the wear with less clarity and definition. 3)While we do some some new extras they are slim pickings. I would have loved to get more commentary tracks on these classic films from Hilton Green (Assistant Director on "Psycho" and a number of Hitch's TV episodes), Bruce Dern or Karen Black (on "Family Plot") and others on the important films.
Some of Hitch's finest films are here "Vertigo", "Rear Window", "The Man Who Knew Too Much", "The Trouble With Harry" (an acquired taste), "Psycho", "Shadow of a Doubt", "Sabotage", "Frenzy", etc but also some of his weaker thrillers as well. It's a good concise and inexpensive way to get them all.

Also, this series was (it seems to me, anyway) meant for adults, not kids. That's why it's on ADULT Swim. This is a great series which Hot Topic hasn't killed yet.

Alien Quadrilogy (Alien/ Aliens /Alien 3 /Alien Resurrection) (1986) Review

(More customer reviews)This consists of two discs for each film, the original and an alternate version (more on that below) on the first disk, and collections of approximately 2 hours of featurettes and other bonuses on the second disc. The ninth disc is a hodgepodge of trailers and other items from previous DVD and laser disk versions. Although the extras have been released in a variety of forms over several years (the John Hurt documentary 'The Alien Saga', being the latest), THIS is the definitive version.
'Alien' (average user rating: 4.6). If you haven't seen this classic film, then you must be living under a rock. The collection includes the original theatrical version (which I prefer) and the "Director's Cut", notable for its inclusion of the controversial captain-cacooned by alien scene (controversial because from the Alien mythology developed in later films, we know that only the massive queen can lay eggs). I prefer the original (which is actually 1 minute longer), and interestingly enough, it appears that Ridley Scott prefers the original as well. The making of featurettes are extensive and reveal Giger's extensive participation and how what was originally expected to receive a b-moive budget became one of the very few examples where Fox studios followed the vision with a classic.
'Aliens' (average user rating: 4.7). This is the only sequel I know of that is rated higher than the original. This time, the "Special Edition" version (also on the previous 'Alien Legacy' box set) is a superior experience and exactly is how upstart director James Cameron (who had written the script prior to the release of 'The Terminator') wanted to release the film, but was constrained entirely by time limits. The result is additional scenes featuring the colonists and Ripley's family lost to the time she spent in hypersleep. As with the first installment, the featurettes are interesting and thorough, although the Viet Nam War metaphor is not as thoroughly explored with Cameron as has been in other releases.
'Alien 3' (average user rating: 3.2). As a fan of the franchise, this was perhaps the most anticipated part of this new box set. The "working print" of the film (the longest of all the versions here, and complete with subtitles for missed sound editing), adds a depth to the film that was not in the original. That is, the arrival of Ripley and the characters are covered much more thoroughly, the alien creature is begotten by an oxen with a much more original look, there is an additional plot twist arising from the nature of the inhabitants (criminally delusional), and there is no riduculously-timed chest-burster scene at the end. Still, the film is a flawed masterpiece. The film is better appreciated in light of the bad situation first-time director David Fincher had been placed in - not the least of which is an incomplete script during production and a set that had already been constructed for the ill-conceived "wooden planet/monestary" vision of the previously assigned director. In this sense, the three production featurettes come across as almost an apology/tribute to Fincher. (NOTE: Fincher is the only director who is not interviewed on the box set.)
'Alien Resurrection' (average user rating: 3.0). What happens when you put the French director of 'Amelie' (Jean-Pierre Jeaunet) in charge of an alien movie? Well, foreign/art movies were all the craze in the last 1990s, so . . . Fox studios thought, "Why not?" In the end, many fans of the franchise did not appreciate the obviously satirical slant on this final installment. The opening scene and ending scenes (the only additions of substance) on the extended version make the film even more tongue-in-cheek. Despite the French director and crew's obvious regard for the original 'Alien' (as documented in the featurettes), armed with the return of Sigourney Weaver and the addition of superstar Winona Ryder, the director ultimately made a quirky, campy action film. But in the end, it was the last quarter of the script that makes this the weakest of all the installments by far. Postscript to Fox studios: if you had given Fincher this much creative freedom, you would have have a third masterpiece.

(More customer reviews)Having been a fan of "The Pink Panther" series from childhood, I was ecstatic that this set was being released, as the films are otherwise out of print on DVD (although luckily I still have my trusty VHS copies in reserve). I am tempted to give the set five stars simply because it is a wonderful day to see these films back in print, but realistically I had to take it down a notch as there a couple of negative considerations, the most obvious of which, of course, is the absence of "Return of the Pink Panther" from the collection, ostensibly because of legal hang-ups. Whatever the cause, the absence of the first of the 1970s-era "Panthers" is sorely missed. The other minor negative is the relative absence of special features on the movie DVDs, although the original "Pink Panther" has a wonderful trivia track. I would have really loved commentary tracks with Blake Edwards and some of the actors. I am somewhat ambivalent on the extremely unusual packaging the set comes in. It is hard to adequately describe the case, but suffice it to say that removing half of the DVDs is annoyingly difficult, although it looks very stylish.
On the positive end, you get four great "Panther" movies and the bodged-together "Trail of the Pink Panther", plus a disk of extras. Some people have dismissed the extras disk as inconsequential, but I rather enjoyed it. I particularly liked the documentary "The Pink Panther Story" which was heavy on interviews and insight. I had no idea that Sellers hated "A Shot in the Dark", whereas I (and many others) think it is a perfect movie in every way. I knew that Sellers could be somewhat Mercurial to work with, but I had no idea, for instance, that he had certain colors that he would not tolerate around him, and in fact made the producers of one of the movies once repaint a train because he couldn't stand the color! Also on the disk is a documentary about the animated Panther, which is quite interesting, as well as several of the short subject cartoons, which seem selected at random. They did include the Oscar winning "Pink Phink", the first cartoon short of the Pink Panther, which was an excellent choice. "Psychedelic Pink" included an annoying laugh track, and "Pinkfinger" was one of the weaker of the cartoons, which I have great recollection of from childhood. Interestingly enough, there are two related subject cartoons, one each of the Ant and the Aardvark, and The Inspector (in a fairly weak episode) to round out the extra disk.
This is a great set overall, with just a couple of things bringing it down to a four rating. I recommend it to all "Panther" fans everywhere, and to anyone who loves to laugh.

The One After Vegas - Ross and Rachel aren't sure whether they went ahead with the wedding; Monica and Chandler are having second thoughts; and Phoebe takes Joey on a trip in her cab.

The One Where Ross Hugs Rachel - Joey is upset that Chandler is moving in with Monica. Phoebe helps Ross to show his feelings for Rachel.
The One With Ross's Denial - Ross won't acknowledge his feelings for Rachel, who is occupied with looking for a new home. Joey seeks a new room-mate; and Monica and Chandler disagree over decor.
The One Where Joey Loses His Insurance - Joey suffers a hernia just as his health insurance expires; Ross puts on an English accent when lecturing to university students; Phoebe's psychic reveals something grim; and Rachel discovers the marriage to Ross hasn't been annulled.

The O.C.: The Complete Series (2003) Review

(More customer reviews)This is a not a review of the O.C.; you've probably already seen that and know what it's all about. If not, there are other reviews that can tell you all about the content. This is a review of "The O.C.: The Complete Series Collection." What a beautiful send off for those who were sad to see the show end too soon.
The packaging is really unique. One thing that is not conveyed by the stock photos is the size--it's really big, about twice as big as I expected. This is not going to fit easily on your average DVD shelf. The outer case is solid and the book packaging itself is really well done. There are some images from the original box sets' booklets as well as some new pictures that I haven't seen before. The book contains a mix of glossy pages with the episode descriptions and Atomic County excerpts and the thicker cardboard pages holding the discs. On these pages, there are discs on one side and a photo on the other.
The sleeves for the DVDs are cardboard, but (unlike some other sets) the discs were not scratched when I got the set. Part of this is because a piece of foam was inserted in between the book packaging and the outer plastic case so that the book didn't slide around and bang against the case during shipping.
The new features are nice but not necessary--if you already have the sets then the decision whether to buy or to stick with season sets is mostly a matter of how much you like this packaging. I have to say, though, the packaging is pretty dramatic and a lot of effort was put into giving this show the proper treatment. It's not just a bunch of old discs thrown in a crappy package and called a complete set.

Death Note Box Set 1 Review

(More customer reviews)I first caught "DEATH NOTE" on television. I've heard so many impressive things in regards to the storyline and also saw the series featured on NPR. To get the critical acclaim that it has worldwide, this series must be special.
And special is what "DEATH NOTE" truly is. From beginning to end, this series has just grabbed my attention because of its well-written cat vs. mouse storyline.
"DEATH NOTE" is a 37-episode TV series that was created by Studio Madhouse and featured on Japanese television in 2006-2007 and featured in the US in 2007-2008. The series has spawned a popular manga series, a novel, three live action films and has captured the attention of anime and non-anime fans worldwide.
The series focuses on the character of a very smart high school student named Light Yagami. Bored with his life, he comes across the "Death Note" that has special instructions that if one was to write their names on the Death Note, the person would die. They would die of a heart attack if there were no instructions on how the person is to die. Or die the way the person possesing the Death Note wrote down.
The Death Note is from a Shinigami (death god) named Ryuk who seems to be bored in his own world and thus starts to enjoy how a person like Light starts to use the Death Note.
For Light (who goes by the name Kira), starts out using the Death Note by writing the names of criminals. He starts to win supporters due to his ideology of creating a new world without these criminals. But with so many deaths occuring, the police and the International community begin to fear this serial killer. And along the way, Light is suspected by the police as a person of interest (a person who could be "Kira") and then Light starts to use his Death Note on those who are onto him.
Thus a mysterious detective named L is assigned to the case and the series becomes a compelling storyline of will L find a way to catch Light Yagami or will Light Yagami kill L first? Two geniuses trying to outwit the other in a thrilling storyline that is so unique, I'm confident in saying that it's one of the most original anime to come out in the last decade.
The volume 1 box set features on the first half of the series (twenty episodes, five DVDs, four episodes per disc) as Light Yagami (Kira) moves forward to create his new world, while L and the Kira Task Force try to stop him. Also, that there may be another person in the world who may possess a second Death Note as well.
AUDIO & VIDEO:
"Death Note" was a TV series and I found the animation to be quite cool as it showcased a dark, stylish feel to it. Featuring a good dose of J-rock and style to it's overall presentation, Studio Madhouse did a wonderful job in this series and bringing out the illustrations of Takeshi Obata and the storyline of Tsugumi Ohba to television. The dark atmosphere really is well displayed in this anime series.
But the most appealing part of this series is the awesome voice acting. Being the Japanese language purist that I am, I watched the series with Japanese voice acting and it was done very well. But I have to admit that I was really impressed by the English dub voice acting.
Brad Swaile as Light Yagami, Battlestar Galactica actor (Felix Gaeta) Alesandro Juliani, Brian Drummond as Ryuk and Shannon Chan-Kent as Misa did a tremendous job. As did the other English voice actors. A job well done!
SPECIAL FEATURES:
Personally, I wasn't sure what kind of "special features" would be included on the DVD box set but you do get a really awesome behind-the-scenes interview with the English voice dub talent. Here are the special features featured on the Volume 1 Box Set:
* Disc 1 - Behind the Scenes with Brad Swaile "Light", Clean Opening and Ending
* Disc 2 - Behind the Scenes with Alessandro Juliani "L", Japanese Director and Character Designer Interviewer
* Disc 3 - Behind the Scenes with Brian Drummond "Ryuk"
* Disc 4 - Behind the Scenes with Shannon Chan-Kent "Misa"
* Disc 5 - Behind the Scenes with Chris Britton, Vincent Tong and Trevor Devall "The Kira Task Force"
And on each disc, production art and trailers are featured on each disc. What I enjoyed about the behind-the-scenes footage is that they were lengthy and not super short. You really get a good insight on the actor's take (from the beginning of the series) of their character, the challenges they faced in doing the vocal work and much more. So, it was very cool to have these extras included on each disc.
I can't tell you how awesome this TV series is. "Death Note" is truly special as it really show how power can corrupt but taking that cat versus mouse type of storyline of two geniuses trying to outwit each other.
There are literally so many twists and turns in this anime series that it really captures your attention and has you on the edge of your seat.
As for the DVD box set, I think it's just great that Viz Media chose to feature 20 episodes of the series and sell the box set for a great price! I definitely like Viz Media/Shonen Jump Home Video really doing anime fans a great service by following a US TV Season Box Set style of pricing instead of selling the episodes as separate volumes. You're definitely getting your bang for the buck.
Overall, a well-acted anime series (on both the Japanese and English side of things), cool characters, well-written episodes, stylish animation and a unique, compelling anime series that I highly recommend! A+

Friends: The Complete Eighth Season (Repackage) Review

(More customer reviews)I have to start out by saying that, yes, I'm an obsessive fan of Friends. I have been checking this website EVERY single day since season 7 was released hoping and praying that season 8 would show up, and after what has seemed like eternity, I just turned on the computer and found out that season 8 of Friends will be released on November 9th!!! I have to admit that season 7 is one of the worst seasons of Friends. It's pretty much just a long, drawn-out planning of Chandler and Monica's wedding. Season 8 is much better, where we start out by finding out that Rachel is pregnant and end with the birth of baby Emma, while following the first year of Monica and Chandler's marriage. Let me give you a quick run down of season 8:
The One After "I Do" - The group finds out Rachel is pregnant and Chandler reveals his two left feet.
The One With The Red Sweater - Everyone finds out that Ross is the father of Rachel's baby, except Ross himself.
The One Where Rachel Tells - Ross Finds out he's the father
The One With The Video Tape - Ross shows the gang the videotape of him and Rachel having sex to determine who pursued whom.
The One With Rachel's Date - Ross is uneasy finding out Rachel is going on a date while pregnant with his baby.
The One With The Halloween Party - Pheobe meets Ursula's fiance (Sean Penn)and ross dresses up as "Spudnik"
The One With The Stain - Sean Penn leaves Ursula for Pheobe and Joey puts up a nursery so Rachel will stay at his place.
The One With The Stripper - Monica orders a stripper for Chandler's belated b-day and she turns out to be a hooker.
The One With The Rumor - Brad Pitt guest stars on the thanksgiving episode with the "I hate Rachel" club from HS.

The One in Massapequa - Monica regrets giving a toast at her parents 35th anniversary and Pheobe's new boyfriend (Alec Baldwin) drive everyone crazy.
The One With Joey's Interview - Joey get another interview with Soap Opera Digest but he insists his friends be there so he doesn't mess it all up like he did the last time (when he lost his first role on Days of Our Lives)
The One With The Baby Shower - Rachel feels unprepared about being a mother and agrees to let her mother move in to help her
The One With The Cooking Class - After being criticized in the paper, Monica attends a cooking class where she is considered a cullinary genius.
The One Where Rachel is Late - Rachel is past her due date and gets more irritable, and is willing to try anything that might make the baby come.
The One Where Rachel Has A Baby - In the season finale, Rachel is in pain while other women get rolled into hospital rooms before her. Monica and Chandler find an empty room to make love in so they can have their own baby, and Rachel runs into Janice when she is rolled into the same hospital room.
Great stuff here in Friends season 8, you won't be disappointed!

Babylon 5: The Complete Seasons 1-5 (2009) Review

(More customer reviews)As a lover of sci-fi series, it's great to see such a saga sold as a set. The reality for the B5 connoisseur is that this isn't the Full Monty. You should also purchase "Babylon 5 - The Movie Collection" and the B5 spin-offs "Crusade - The Complete Series" and "The Legend of the Rangers". The reasons are indicated below in my recommended viewing order.
1. Watch the B5 movie "The Gathering"
The Babylon 5 pilot movie The Gathering was originally broadcast in 1993 a full year ahead of the regular show.
2. Season 1
3. Season 2
4. Season 3
5. Watch Season 4 up to episode "The illusion of truth"
6. Watch the B5 movie "Thirdspace"
7. Season 4: continue with episodes 9-22
8. Watch Season 5 up to episode "Objects at Rest"
9. Watch the B5 movie "River of Souls"
10. Watch the B5 movie "In the Beginning"
This is a prelude set 10 years before Babylon 5. Against the logic of the title, I would strongly recommend seeing it at this stage. Should one see it before Season 1, much of the suspense in the main series would be ruined.
11. Watch the B5 movie "A Call to Arms"
This movie lays the groundwork for the spin-off TV series "Crusade".
12. Watch the B5 movie "The Lost Tales" [Thanks to Eric Pregosin for his comments to build on the original list]
13. Watch the B5 movie "The Legend of the Rangers" [Thanks to Lisa for her recommendation]
14. Season 5: watch final episode "Sleeping in light"
15. Watch Crusade Series
The question which is debated in several other reviews is: Despite the release dates of the material produced, in what order should it be seen? In particular, if the viewer is a total new comer to the series. The above is an attempt to give some structure to great content so it is more enjoyable as a complete work.
PS - It is astounding that the Warner marketing dept. gives no official recommendation on how these products should be best enjoyed.

Babylon 5: The Complete Third Season (Repackage) (2009) Review

In the Year of the Shadow War, it became something greater: our last, best hope... for victory."
This narration is spoken during the opening credit sequence of this season. The credit sequence is much different this season than its predecessors. Gone is the optimistic theme music of the first two seasons, in its place is the much sadder Requiem for the Line. It establishes very well the dark places that this season will take us.
The production values of the show seem to improve quite a bit this season, and we see more great work behind the camera from directors like Mike Vejar. The whole show seems to hang together very organically now, as even the stories that don't directly reference that main story arc (the few that there are) are quite good, especially "Passing Through Gesetheme," which is a true science fiction (opposed to sci-fi fantasy) story that explores the theological issues of telepathy. Even the lesser stories pack an unexpected punch, such as "Dust to Dust" which starts out with a pretty unremarkable story of Garibaldi and Bester hunting down drug dealers, but ends with a beautiful scene that heartbreakingly portrays the spiritual redemption of one of the main characters.
Marcus Cole is a great addition to the season. This character could have gone wrong in so many ways, but good casting and writng made him work wonderfully. The White Star also worked out really well after a rocky start. (The first set design in "Matters of Honor" was admittedly not that great, but they quickly fixed it). These two changes also worked well because they were a natural outgrowth of the direction the story was moving, and not just an attempt to get better ratings (as some shows are known to do).
There is much good drama this season. Here, the show really lived up to its billing as a "novel for TV". This season was a great examination of pain, loss, sacrifice, redemption, and most importantly hope. The final words of the season sum up the overall message better than I ever could:
"There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain."

Robot Chicken, Season 1 (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)The topics and humor in this show come fast and in a highly random manner, which may not appeal to everyone, but if you like the old 1-minute "blackout" type of sketches done years ago on many variety shows, then Robot Chicken will appeal to you. If a gag misses the mark for you it will be over fast and the next one will be rolling by moments later, a gag that may be very different and a lot funnier to you. There's something for everyone, as pop-culture, politics and more are skewered using action figures and other models in a rapid parade of stop-motion comedy sketches. My personal favorites are those that use action figures from some popular cartoon, comic book or movie, placing them in character in situations where they are forced to deal with everyday frustrations and problems. It's bust-a-gutt funny when you see Lex Luthor and Skeletor stuck in traffic, Transformers suffering from severe chronic illnesses, and more. There's also a hilarious bit where a stop-motion Mark Hamill (who voices himself) walks off the set of Star Wars after Darth Vader spouts a string of the most improbable explanations of how things work in Star Wars mythology. Many other actors and well-known personalities provide guest voices on the show, often poking fun at themselves or work they have done in the past.
Robot Chicken Vol. 1 is funny enough to warrant repeated viewing and I'm looking forward both to buying this DVD set and to seeing the second season of the show which begins in April 2006.
