(More customer reviews)What I love about these Blue Collar DVD's is they feature some of the best sets these guys have, but they leave you wanting more and that leads to yet another Blue Collar DVD with, get this, different material and that is really worth the purchase. This is the third installment and its just as impressive as the previous two. Bill Engvall (one of the funniest men alive) starts things off, and as he does best he takes jabs as family life since above all else Bill is a family man. One of the funniest jokes has to do though with his first massage and his reaction to it...great laughs. Ron White is up next, and as he does best he takes jabs at life with booze and loose women, except now that he's a married man the loose women part has been narrowed down to one woman. His set though is still funny especially his take on the movie 'Grizzly Man' although he spoiled the ending! Jeff Foxworthy is on top of his game, although if you ask me he's not as good as his open acts, and quite frankly neither is Larry, although Larry can succeed in getting a laugh out of you for just about anything (his stand up routine in full is histerical!) The great thing about these Blue Collar DVD's is that each of the four men bring something different to the table, their comedy is all unique that it doesn't feel your hearing the same recycled jokes over and over and each has such different delivery everything feels fresh, from Bills almost girlish expressions to Larry's 'Git-er-Done' every line is bound to force a smile. If you own the first two then this is a must have, and even if your new to the phenominon that is Blue Collar TV this is still a very good start!

Larry The Cable Guy - Git-R-Done (2003) Review

(More customer reviews)If you're a wuss and get easily offended, stay away from this DVD, but if you're not a politically correct girley man as my California Governor Ahnold would say (and that applies to both sexes), you'll laugh until you cry.
Larry the Cable Guy is the redneck Don Rickles, and is an equal opportunity insulter. His is also some of the most inventive stand-up comedy I've heard.
I normally won't tolerate bad language and bathroom humor, because it is usually said as the main reason to make one laugh, for some sort of "shock value"; Larry the Cable Guy says gross toilet humor as part of the story, and it's the story that's funny, not just the way it's said.
Some stories are outrageous, but there are many things out of everyday life...Larry ponders whether it's "Pet Smart" or Pets Mart" (I've often had the same thing run through my head) and in telling us of Rosie O'Donnell's confrontation with NRA member Tom Selleck, he says something I really like: "if guns kill people, I can blame misspelled words on my pencil".
The show, which was filmed at The State Theatre in Kalamazoo, Michigan, on October 30th, 2003, is 66 minutes long, and the DVD extras include a "gallery", and a segment that is about 4 minutes long of "Bathroom Humor", actually filmed in a public restroom, with Larry in a stall.
The show takes a dip in the middle when he's talking about edible britches, but picks up again and Bubli Bubli's letter is a riot, and the Christmas song finale priceless. The last one had me roaring.
Someday Larry the Cable Guy is going to be sued. Not for insulting someone with a defect, but for making someone choke to death with laughter. Git-R-Done Larry !

was it worth it? well, I have mixed feelings..
I have to rate this 5 stars because it is George and it is classic stuff.
It does NOT have George's Best Stuff , the dvd on the complete George Carlin box set...which while it is a best of ...also has an all time classic bit on "STUFF" from the Comic Relief special ....which is NOT in this set..called "All My Stuff"...so its a minor point but a frustration.
George is the greatest standup of all time and not only funny, but he makes you THINK....and that is his special gift and I've been a fan since my high school days ,which coincided with his early little David releases that preceed this set.
enjoy...and was it worth it to spend all that money for the extra 1 hour interview...for me ..Yes.

In fact if you are Iranian it will be twice as funny as if you are not, and if you are not Iranian but you have some Iranian friends, still it will be very funny. This guy, Maz Jobrani is is not only talented but also, very energetic and animated. The only thing that you should know is that the other two guys on the cover do not have any scenes in the DVD.

Lewis Black: Stark Raving Black (2010) Review

"Stark Raving Black" was directed by Adam Dublin and is Lewis Black's stand-up comedy concert at the Fillmore Theatre in Detroit where he goes off on social issues and political commentary on current events. Black chose Detroit under the assumption that if anyone had a reason to be mad, it would be Detroit so they would like his angry humor.
Black vents on a series of topics from the perspective of a grumpy 60 year old man who is fed up with the system. At one point, he points out that anyone who declares themselves a Republican or Democrat these days with the minor differentiations in the parties and mistakes made on both sides is basically an idiot.
He goes into a very entertaining story about discovering that he had become a mainstream comedian by having to follow up country legend, Vince Gill and his wife, Amy Grant at an event and being unable to compete with their pure goodness and talent.
He talks about everyday issues like aging, parents, birth and death. He talks about political and social issues of greed, how everyone knew the country was going downhill, the economy, the issues with alternative energy, and the message of hope.
He has some great stories and presents them in a very funny perspective and even more impressively manages very smooth transitions from one topic to another very naturally. Black is a very angry person who manages to rant in an entertainingly funny way and is a great release to watch!
Bonus Features:
The Lewis Black Story is a documentary feature that runs a little over an hour and begins with a gag reel of him attempting to do his radio spot for the show in Detroit and transitions into the story of his tour and the people behind it. He introduces other people who work on the tour with him like his sound guy. He talks about his parents, especially his mother who has a "black-belt in sarcasm." This history of his career starting in theater at Yale and gradually moving into stand-up reveals a lot about how his particular style developed.

Demetri Martin. Person. (2007) Review

(More customer reviews)Demetri Martin's low-key, child-like comedy is an awful lot of fun to watch. One part Zach Galifianakis, one part Mitch Hedburg and with a dash of early Pee Wee Herman on Ritalin, Demetri performs as though he's a talented but strange kid putting on a show for his parents. Through stand up ("I like to stand around ATMs, wait until someone punches in their PIN number and say, 'Got it!" and run away."), odd train of thought music, graphs and pie charts of observations he's made ("This graph represents how cute a girl is vs. how long I'll listen to her talk about how intuitive her cat is..."), "Art", and even some animation, it's laugh out loud hilarious and worth watching twice.
Criticism? The stage play of "Where my comedy goes" could have been cut, or at least cut down. It's amusing, but goes on a bit too long, hence, I give the DVD 4 instead of 5 stars. An excellent show by perhaps the next superstar comic!

(More customer reviews)This DVD features great comedians and some very funny moments, but it really suffers from too many performers and not enough time for each. Each comic comes on stage, tells 2 or 3 jokes and then introduces the next comic. It's an interesting concept, and I applaud Patton and the guys for trying something new and different, but unfortunately it doesn't translate to DVD very well, IMO. The DVD plays like 2 hours of emceeing with no main act. I would rather have a 2 or 3 or 4 disc set that has more of each performance or (even better) just pick the best 4 or 5 comedians and give them each a 20 or 30 minute set. Also, I know that it says there are 15 comedians on the back, but I kinda think that having 4 popular comedians on the cover is a little misleading. It gives the impression that you actually get to see more than a couple of minutes of them performing! The new comics were great, I'm glad they're on the DVD, but I'd like to see more of them too! Interesting concept, funny stuff, I just hope they come up with a better presentation next time.

Doug Stanhope - No Refunds (2007) Review

(More customer reviews)In fact, he crosses many lines. Listening to him, you realize how seldom the boundaries of free speech are tested by public personalities. It's not so much a question of censorship as self-censorship; people mostly remain within certain, unspoken limits. When someone does not respect these limits, they stand out, especially if they do it in a creative and entertaining way, as Doug Stanhope does. I have to admit I had never even heard of him until I happened to see the DVD in the video store. The only comics I can think of comparing him to are Bill Hicks and maybe George Carlin at his edgiest (I know he's been compared to Lenny Bruce, but, unfortunately, so far I've never had the chance to see any footage of his material).
This concert video really illustrates how comedy can be far more than a mere diversion, but a potent weapon with which to attack various sacred cows of polite society. Stanhope wears a t-shirt that says "Libertarian" -this is actually an understatement; he is an unapologetic hedonist, bordering on nihilist. He conducts the show while chain smoking and chugging beer. Describing this, it may sound a little like adolescent style rebellion, but combined with his material it fits perfectly. I recall another comic who smoked onstage, Andrew Dice Clay, but in my opinion he only succeeded in being obnoxious and offensive without being very funny or insightful.
Stanhope says things that many people would be afraid to say out loud, or maybe never even thought of. Among other things, he explains why he is pro-abortion, why the dangers of child pornography are exaggerated, the evils of anti-smoking laws, the virtues of drugs and alcohol and the many flaws of traditional religions like Christianity and Judaism. Concerning the latter, he describes why he has been called anti-semitic for some of his comments about Jews. True to his unapologetic persona, he does little to try to disprove this charge in his spiel on the topic. I truly don't think he is anti-Semitic, racist or anything like that. He is simply committed to testing the boundaries of political correctness, even if it means alienating people who don't take the trouble to consider his comments in their full context --the full context being attacks on just about everything and everybody who holds anything sacred. He dismisses all traditions as being worthless and obsolete (my paraphrasing; he says it in a much more entertaining way).
The point is not whether you agree with everything Stanhope says. As much as I admire many of his anti-authoritarian positions, I can't say I would endorse his commitment to a lifestyle that borders on the self-destructive. As I write this, I think of someone who might be the best comparison to Stanhope, though not a comic per se -Hunter S. Thompson. Both possess (ed) an anarchic spirit and a disdain for limits of any kind. When this is combined with a gift for language and a bizarre sense of humor, you have something rare and educational.

(More customer reviews)I have been waiting a long time for a decent Gallagher DVD to be released, but it has been worth the wait. This compilation contains 11 full length Gallagher concerts including:
Disc 1
"Mad As Hell" "Two Real" "Stuck in the 60's" "The Maddest"
Disc 2
"Melon Crazy" "Over Your Head" "The Bookkeeper" "Overboard"
Disc 3
"We Need A Hero" "Messin' Up Texas" "An Uncensored Evening"
These all appear to be unedited and uncut since there original airing. I used to catch these concerts re-aired on Comedy Central on Saturday mornings but have not seen them for about 10 years. I am SO happy that they finally released this great collection of Gallagher works... his comedy has already stood the test of time for over 20 years, and with this DVD, Gallagher can be introduced to new audiences and remembered by his fans.
There are also 2 "Best of Gallagher" DVD's that have been released, and I am wondering if they are just highlights from the 11 concerts contained on this "Smashing Watermelon Collection" or if they have different material on them. Hopefully someone will review them soon.
If you like Gallagher, I am sure you will buy this collection... but even if you just like comedy, you should get this in order to realize just how smart and funny Gallagher really is and you will discover how much influence he has had on many other comedians.

Jim Gaffigan - Beyond the Pale (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)I caught this twice on TV and both times was laughing so hard it hurt. I just had to buy it so I could show it to more people. We must watch it at home at least a couple times a month now, and show it to everyone we can. Gaffigan is a genius in this: he is so funny, discusses so many common themes for his jokes (laziness, eating) with only a couple insinuating jokes that might be innappropriate, otherwise very clean-cut and not filled with bad language like so many other comedians. I am so glad I bought this, it has been so worth it and gotten so much time from my DVD player. We are always quoting from this, just so much of it is so true! You will love it and not be sad you spent the small price to buy it. There are some cute special features too, but the routine is the best part.

Brian Regan: Standing Up (2007) Review

(More customer reviews)Brian Regan is a great comedian for the whole family. My wife and kids love walking through the house yelling "What's the score, Brian?" "Snowcone! Whole snowcone for half game!" He's a great guy, and his humor is something you can enjoy with everyone.
If you own his live CD or earlier DVD, you'll find this contains almost all new material. One of the bonus features is his encore in which he does requests from the audience from his material. It's stuff you've heard before, but the funny way he points that out is hilarious ("You're out there going, 'Yep, that's the way I memorized it.'") His first Comedy Central Presents appearance is included and there's no repeats from the "Standing Up" special in it. If this is your first introduction to Brian's comedy, it's a great place to start. Grab his live CD next. The CC Presents half-hour show has some of that material on it, but it's still funny.
I wish there were more comedians out there like Brian. He manages to be funny without ever being vulgar. I don't know why he isn't more popular, but with his CC sponsored national tour maybe he'll finally get the exposure he deserves.

Iglesias is known from being the finalist of the fourth season of "Last Comic Standing" in 2006 but in 2007, it was the success of his 2nd special Comedy Central 2007 DVD "Hot & Fluffy" (which sold over 300,000 copies) which would propel Gabriel Iglesias as a comedian that can sell out live performances and also comedy DVD's.

On his latest DVD, "I'm Not Fat...I'm Fluffy", Iglesias is literally on top of his game delivery joke after joke. From sharing stories of his return to El Paso and talking about a time he got drunk and ended up at an alternative gay bar to his first major gift from Nickelodeon to jokes about his personal life with his girlfriend and her son, Gabriel Iglesias's performance is just hilarious and magnificent.This time around, because of the family experiences that he has to share, these are situations that people can relate to and again, the voices he does is just top notch as he is able to switch voices on command and just be surprised when you hear it.
But you cold tell that his relationship with his girlfriend's son Frankie has brought new life to his routine and the fact that he can take those personal experiences and make them funny is just what makes the "Fluffy Man" so wonderful to watch on stage and he doesn't have to get nasty or profane to make the audience laugh.

There are several angles closeup, stagewise, behind the audience and from a stage angle to showcase the audience at the front. But overall, editing is well-done and stage setup is simple with pretty cool looking for the backdrop at the Plaza Theatre in El Paso, Texas. Simple and clean. Lighting is well-done and for the most part, editing is good, no quick cuts to make the viewer dizzy. Overall, a job well-done.
Audio is presented in Dolby Digital and audio is clear and understandable. Audience can be heard quite well. Personally, I had my receiver set on stereo on all channels to have a more immersive soundstage in the room.

* Deleted Scene: High School Reunion - (7:45) A deleted scene in which Gabriel had to stop his routine because parts of the towel (lint) was all over his face and thus it hurt the pacing. But Gabriel manages to take the situation and make it humorous for the audience.
* Fluffy's Friends Hit the Stage: Martin Moreno - (4:59) Martin jokes about getting older and also today's young Latino guys who are wearing tight pants, tight shirts, plucking their eyebrows and how they are looking effeminate.
* Fluffy's Friends Hit the Stage: Noe Gonzalez - (4:09) Noe's comedy is more adult-oriented. Noel jokes about his size and the concept of size.
* Onstage Q&A With the Fans - (8:07) Gabriel Iglesias answers questions from his fans.
JUDGMENT CALL:
Gabriel Iglesias is definitely one of the most entertaining comedians today. Where Latino comedians such as George Lopez and Paul Rodriguez represented the 80's and 90's, Gabriel Iglesias is a comedian that entertains people of all ages. From jokes about video games and his family to jokes about sweating on stage and how it starts to smell like chicharones. He just makes you laugh and laugh some more and this is what I found most interesting, this is probably one of the few Comedy Central DVD's, if not the first where the comedy routine is quite clean. Granted, he may be saying things in Spanish but in English... it's a clean routine.
If anything, this is a comedian who cares about his fans and he tells everyone straight up, if you see him at a restaurant, say hi. How he is onstage and in real life are the same person and the fact that he gives that Q&A after his performance in order to get the fans a chance to know more about him, goes to show how Iglesias is such a class act. Positive personality but knows how to make the audience laugh...he's a talented comedian.
Also, I have to say that "I'm Not Fat...I'm Fluffy: Live from El Paso" was a performance where he manages to keep the same excitement going from beginning to end. His delivery is smooth, continuous and for the most part, just fantastic.
There's nothing negative about this Comedy Central DVD at all. If you thought "Hot & Fluffy" was a phenomenal DVD, then you have to give "I'm Not Fat...I'm Fluffy: Live from El Paso" a try because this is a fantastic comedy DVD.
