Scooby Doo: Camp Scare Review

Scooby Doo: Camp Scare

This is an excellent Scooby Doo. It is by far one of the most faithful to the old series I have seen in a long while. It is creepy, funny, and of course mysterious. I like the relationship dynamics between the characters. The updated animation and the story pull out all the stops. The fact that the mystery does not wind up involving the supernatural is wonderful. It is just like the old series. I don't like it when they take something pure and put a different spin on it. My 9 year old daughter and I curled up and enjoyed the heck out of this one. We were both trying to guess who the bad guys were all through the show. THIS ONE IS A KEEPER!

Gabriel Iglesias: I'm Not Fat... I'm Fluffy Review

Gabriel Iglesias: I'm Not Fat... I'm Fluffy
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The comedian known as the "Fluffy Man". Gabriel Iglesias is one of the hottest comedians out there. Latino flair and hilarious delivery, from his voice impressions to jokes about his weight or personal issues, he knows how to get the audience laughing from beginning to end. There is no slow down in deliver, Iglesias is just hilarious!
Iglesias is known from being the finalist of the fourth season of "Last Comic Standing" in 2006 but in 2007, it was the success of his 2nd special Comedy Central 2007 DVD "Hot & Fluffy" (which sold over 300,000 copies) which would propel Gabriel Iglesias as a comedian that can sell out live performances and also comedy DVD's.
Earlier in the year, Iglesias released a double album CD titled "We Luf Fluffy" from performances from 2006 & 2008 and now he returns with a new DVD titles "I'm not Fat...I'm Fluffy" which was recorded in El Paso.
The tracklist on this DVD are as follows:
1. Return to El Paso
2. Nickelodeon
3. Oh Hello No!!
4. I Hear the Bell
5. New Daddy
6. I Do Voices Everywhere
7. Obama
8. My Girl
9. Cop Story 1
10. USO
11. Copy Story 2
12. Cakes and More Cakes
13. Dropping Frankie Off
14. DDR
15. Disney
16. Car Was Stolen
On his latest DVD, "I'm Not Fat...I'm Fluffy", Iglesias is literally on top of his game delivery joke after joke. From sharing stories of his return to El Paso and talking about a time he got drunk and ended up at an alternative gay bar to his first major gift from Nickelodeon to jokes about his personal life with his girlfriend and her son, Gabriel Iglesias's performance is just hilarious and magnificent. This time around, because of the family experiences that he has to share, these are situations that people can relate to and again, the voices he does is just top notch as he is able to switch voices on command and just be surprised when you hear it.
But you cold tell that his relationship with his girlfriend's son Frankie has brought new life to his routine and the fact that he can take those personal experiences and make them funny is just what makes the "Fluffy Man" so wonderful to watch on stage and he doesn't have to get nasty or profane to make the audience laugh.
VIDEO & AUDIO:
"Gabriel Iglesias - I'm Not Fat...I'm Fluffy: Live From El Paso" is presented in widescreen. There are several angles closeup, stagewise, behind the audience and from a stage angle to showcase the audience at the front. But overall, editing is well-done and stage setup is simple with pretty cool looking for the backdrop at the Plaza Theatre in El Paso, Texas. Simple and clean. Lighting is well-done and for the most part, editing is good, no quick cuts to make the viewer dizzy. Overall, a job well-done.
Audio is presented in Dolby Digital and audio is clear and understandable. Audience can be heard quite well. Personally, I had my receiver set on stereo on all channels to have a more immersive soundstage in the room.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
"Gabriel Iglesias - I'm Not Fat...I'm Fluffy: Live From El Paso" comes with the following special features:
* Deleted Scene: High School Reunion - (7:45) A deleted scene in which Gabriel had to stop his routine because parts of the towel (lint) was all over his face and thus it hurt the pacing. But Gabriel manages to take the situation and make it humorous for the audience.
* Fluffy's Friends Hit the Stage: Martin Moreno - (4:59) Martin jokes about getting older and also today's young Latino guys who are wearing tight pants, tight shirts, plucking their eyebrows and how they are looking effeminate.
* Fluffy's Friends Hit the Stage: Noe Gonzalez - (4:09) Noe's comedy is more adult-oriented. Noel jokes about his size and the concept of size.
* Onstage Q&A With the Fans - (8:07) Gabriel Iglesias answers questions from his fans.
JUDGMENT CALL:
Gabriel Iglesias is definitely one of the most entertaining comedians today. Where Latino comedians such as George Lopez and Paul Rodriguez represented the 80's and 90's, Gabriel Iglesias is a comedian that entertains people of all ages. From jokes about video games and his family to jokes about sweating on stage and how it starts to smell like chicharones. He just makes you laugh and laugh some more and this is what I found most interesting, this is probably one of the few Comedy Central DVD's, if not the first where the comedy routine is quite clean. Granted, he may be saying things in Spanish but in English... it's a clean routine.
If anything, this is a comedian who cares about his fans and he tells everyone straight up, if you see him at a restaurant, say hi. How he is onstage and in real life are the same person and the fact that he gives that Q&A after his performance in order to get the fans a chance to know more about him, goes to show how Iglesias is such a class act. Positive personality but knows how to make the audience laugh...he's a talented comedian.
Also, I have to say that "I'm Not Fat...I'm Fluffy: Live from El Paso" was a performance where he manages to keep the same excitement going from beginning to end. His delivery is smooth, continuous and for the most part, just fantastic.
There's nothing negative about this Comedy Central DVD at all. If you thought "Hot & Fluffy" was a phenomenal DVD, then you have to give "I'm Not Fat...I'm Fluffy: Live from El Paso" a try because this is a fantastic comedy DVD.
Highly recommended!

I wasn't expecting much from this show - caught it once waiting for another. It was hilarious. I actually laughed out loud - which I have never done with a T.V. show before. I got several other friends hooked. I can't wait to get the show on DVD so that I can watch it start to finish, in order. Much, much better than expected.

Worst Week is an outrageous comedy series about a guy, a girl, her parents and a side-splitting assortment of catastrophes. Sam (Kyle Bornheimer, Jericho) and Melanie (Erinn Hayes, Kitchen Confidential) are engaged with a baby on the way – so winning over her parents is job #1 for Sam. Stern judge Dick (Kurtwood Smith, That '70s Show) and overprotective Angela (Nancy Lenehan, My Name is Earl) are willing to give this well-meaning young man the benefit of the doubt, but something utterly disastrous happens every time they get together. That won\'t stop Sam from trying though and, with supportive Melanie doing damage control, he\'ll just keep jumping back into the fray, hoping to charm his way into the good graces of his future in-laws. Each time he tries though the mishaps get crazier. Based on the acclaimed British sitcom The Worst Week of My Life, this madcap comedy from one of the twisted minds that brought you Scrubs boldly goes where no family misadventure has gone before.

Mad About You - The Complete First Season (1992) Review

Mad About You - The Complete First Season (1992)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Like a lot of people, I loved the first few years of Mad About You, when it was really well-written romantic comedy about a newlywed couple negotiating the difficulties of settling into a marriage. The video quality on these discs isn't perfect, but it's certainly good enough to enjoy these episodes all over again.
HOWEVER, some insane person made the decision to run the episodes on the discs in *production* order instead of *air-date* order, and the consequence is that parts of the series make no sense whatsoever -- for example, the discs swap episodes 2 and 4, so that the couple have in episodes 2 and 3 the couch they buy in ep 4 (originally episode 2). Something even worse is done with the last two episodes of the season, swapping them and thereby ruining both the story arc and the symmetry intended for the season finale.
I think we should all write angry letters to the studio protesting this idiotic decision and demanding better treatment for future releases. And, when available, a free replacement with the episodes in the right order.
In the meantime, if you loved Mad About You, you'll probably have to buy the set and reorder the episodes manually.

Courage the Cowardly Dog: Season One (Cartoon Network Hall of Fame) Review

Courage the Cowardly Dog: Season One (Cartoon Network Hall of Fame)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Back in the day, when Cartoon Network was in their prime, they had a killer lineup every Friday night. This included Dexter's Lab, Powerpuff Girls, Cow and Chicken, Johnny Bravo, and my personal favorite, a show about a cowardly dog named Courage. I was hooked from the first episode I ever watched, which featured the little black duckling. This show had it all. Great stories were first and foremost. They were like mini-films. The stories were ridiculous, but it didn't matter because they were treated in such an epic way. The animation was great, and the backgrounds were out of this world. As much as I liked Dexter and Powerpuff Girls, their backgrounds were VERY simplistic. It was refreshing to see the style used for Courage, where the backgrounds displayed so much detail and atmosphere, which drew you in to the story all the more. As for Courage himself, true, he was a coward, but in each episode, he had to find a way to put that all aside to save his owners, Muriel and Eustace. Courage was the kind of hero you could relate to. He didn't wanna be the hero, and if you had to go up against some of the crazy stuff he did, you wouldn't wanna be either. But there was something about the dog's anxious disposition and terrified personality that made him a likeable character. He didn't talk much, but what he said mattered. "I know I'm not gonna like this" was his battle cry when it came time for action. Then he would pull out some off-the-wall prop or devise some master plan to save the day, and things would go back to normal again, except for the fact that most of the time, the family house was destroyed by the end of the episode.
This is one of the best cartoon series ever made. It's timeless and truly fun to watch. I'm ordering a copy, and so should everyone else who enjoys good storytelling.
P.S.- It's too bad all the negative reviews for a DIFFERENT DVD release are showing up here. Those are for the Australian release, not this one.

In the first season dvd package Sony sacrificed picture quality in order to cram all 22 episodes on 2 discs. Happily, the 25 episodes which comprise season two are contained on 3 discs and the picture is much sharper as a result.
This isn't the only thing that I like better about this set of discs. For one, the writing got much better in the second season. The jokes were funnier, the characters were more solid and for some reason, Helen Hunt is cuter.
Again, there are no "extras" in these discs. No commentary, specials, cut scenes... nothing. But when you consider the low price it's being offered at, it's a great deal regardless. I only hope that the consumer response is strong enough to warrant issuing the remaining seasons.

TV comedy doesn't get any better than this! Father Ted Series 2 is even better than Series 1. The laughs are unstoppable with episodes like:
...
"Hell" - Father Ted, Dougal and Father Jack go on holiday in a miniscule caravan, only to have it invaded by the hilarious screeching Father Noel (played by So Graham Norton's very own Graham Norton)and his riverdancing youth group.
"Tentacles of Doom" - The Bishops are coming to elevate the Holy Stone of Clonrichert to a level II holy relic and Ted must train Father Jack to say things other than "Feck!", "Drink! and "Girls!". The outcome is ROFL funny.
"Cigarettes And Alcohol And Rollerblading" - Lent has never been scarier! They enlist Sister Assumpta to help them hold their Lenten vows, however Sister Assumpta has different ideas about Lent which include sleeping on bricks, starvation and torture.

Laugh along with three Irish priests exiled on a tiny island as penance for indulging in their outrageously funny vices in the second series of this comic masterpiece. Hell--It's July and that means it's time for the Fathers' annual holiday. With interesting activities like boiling water and a day trip to "Saint Kevin's Stump", the stage is set for an incredibly exciting two weeks. Think Fast, Father Ted--With the Parish House roof threatening to collapse, Ted convinces Bishop Brennan to give the parish a new car. They plan to raffle it off to raise funds, but when a bit of amateur bodywork goes badly wrong, Ted has to come up with a plan... Tentacles of Doom--The Holy Stone of Clonrichert is about to be upgraded to a class II relic, and Ted is determined that Fathers Dougal and Jack be on their best behavior. But a crisis of faith, a faulty toilet and an overbearing bishop will put them all to the test. The Old Grey Whistle Theft--Following an argument with Ted, an officious picnic area supervisor realizes that his shiny silver whistle has disappeared. As hysteria grows over the breakdown of law and order, Sergeant Hodgins begins to suspect a priest is responsible. Song for Europe--Driven on by his rivalry with Father Dick Byrne, Ted is determined to win the 1996 Eurosong Contest. To this end, he and Dougal "borrow" the music of an old Eurosong contender and enter it as their own. The Plague--Father Dougal is very excited about his new pet rabbit, but Bishop Brennan's arrival may ruin his fun. The Bishop suffers from a severe case of rabbit phobia, so when more rabbits start popping up, the Fathers have a crisis on their hands.

I noticed that as of Today(4/24/10) Amazon has the incorrect information listed as far as the episodes and features on this set. The information they have( again, as of 4/24, for all I know they could change it by the time you read it ) is actually from the Family Guy Volume 5 set. Here is the info for this set:
Disc 1
Phantom of the Telethon
Chimdale
Stan Time
Family Affair
Live and Let Fry
Roy Rogers McFreely
Disc 2
Jack's Back
Bar Mitzvah Hustle
Wife Insurance
The Delorean Story-an
Every Which Way But Loose
The Wiener of our Discontent
Disc 3
Daddy Queerest
Stan's Night Out
Bonus Features: Deleted Scenes and Power Hour Drinking Game
And as always, there will be commentary by the staff for every episode.
Now, my literary and reviewing talents are not great, so I won't give you a long in depth review of the episodes. But I can say that I have liked the show from the beginning, and these episodes are as good as ever. If you like the show, you'll like this set. If you are just a fan of the other animated shows, comedy shows in general, satire, or just a fan of random 80's references, you will also like the show. Hope the info helped.
UPDATE: Got the set today, a few days after I had planned, unfortunately. In addition to the bonus features listed, on Disc 2 there is a Fact Up version of Bar Mitzvah Hustle. For those not familiar with what that is( I really wasn't either) Basically you can watch the episode, and as you watch little facts about the episode (or related to the episode in some way) pop up every few seconds. Kinda like those old VH1 Pop up videos. I thought it was pretty interesting and neat, and fans of the show should enjoy it.

I recently rewatched season 1 before viewing season 2, and sadly season 2 does not live up to season 1. Season 2 is funny, still, but lacks a plot arc like season 1.
Just a few days later I cannot recall any plot points from season 2, and this lack of structure really detracts from what I hoped would be a great season 2.
A series with so few episodes should not be running out of plot so soon. Perhaps the final episode ( unavailable on DVD as far as I know) would bring a little more focus to this last season.
So, go ahead and watch season 2 for the characters and dialogue. Perhaps with slightly lower expectations than I had, your level of enjoyment will be higher.

This comedy is hilarious. Don't take my word for it. Pulling Seasons 1 and 2 were nominated for BAFTA Awards. The writing is killer, and the acting is fantastic.
It may not have the high (read: moneyed) production values of some of the more lavish American comedies (set in wealthy homes in New York and L.A.) - the world of Pulling is a gritty, realistic world - but this only adds to the brilliance of Pulling and the believability of the characters. I was completely drawn into the drama of their lives, and found myself believing all of their ridiculous, self destructive antics, which is what made it so very, very funny.
Pulling is genius. I can't wait for Season 2 to come out on DVD.

Finally the long awaited final season of Father Ted comes to DVD! Season 3 originally aired from March to May 1998 and it is just as strong as Seasons 1 & 2 in writing, laughs, and brilliant performances by Dermot Morgan (Ted), Ardal O'Hanlon (Dougal), Frank Kelly (Jack), and Pauline McLynn (Mrs. Doyle). Its obvious that Father Ted would not have ended as soon as it did if not for the unfortunate and untimely passing of Dermot Morgan (1952-1998) at age 45. Its also completely understandable that the show could not continue without him. Father Ted is one of the most original and hilarious sitcoms ever and like another sitcom on BBC video, Black Adder, it accomplished more in its 24 episodes than countless other sitcoms did in hundred episode runs: Brilliant writing and laughs that only increase with each episode. God Bless Father Ted and all those involved in creating this masterpiece. The season 3 DVD set consists of 2 DVDs with all 8 episodes. I'm also very happy to say that the '96 Christmas special is also included which was recently released in the U.K. as a separate DVD! Here's the episodes on this set:
1. Are you right there, Father Ted?
2. Chirpy Burpy Cheap Sheep
3. Speed 3
4. The Mainland
5. Escape from Victory
6. Kicking Bishop Brennan up the Arse
7. Night of the Nearly Dead

One Foot in the Grave: Season 3 Review

One Foot in the Grave: Season 3
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just love this show! I found it by accident when purchasing other British comedies on Amazon. It's a comedy along the lines of Fawlty Towers, The Thin Blue Line and Blackadder. Yet, One Foot in the Grave is distinctly unique. It covers an overlooked segment of the population (the recently retired & aging segment).
If you have never saw One Foot in the Grave, start at season 1 and work your way up. The show and characters are more enjoyable watched in order, as many times they will work off something that occured in a previous show. Season 3 is perhaps the best of the series, so far, with the characters having grown and really filling out their roles.
An overview of the story (starting at Season 1), is about a 60 year old man (Mr. Victor Meldrew) whom is forced into retirement and has his whole life turned upside down. As he battles against a world that now longer makes sense, trouble seems to find him at every corner. Richard Wilson plays Victor Meldrew and Annette Crosbie plays as his wife Margaret Meldrew. Both Crosbie and Wilson are hysterical & believable. Victor being on the brink of a breakdown all the time, and his wife the voice of sanity, that brings humor to every situation. Or is Victor the sanest of them all? The older I get the more I identify with grumpy ole' Victor Meldrew.
Great show that gets funnier every season. If you are a fan of British comedy this is a must see!

People, in Victor Meldrew’s view, were created to annoy him. And Victor annoys them too, provoking them to extremes. Sharing the misery, nightmares and confusion are his long-suffering wife Margaret (she’ll never forget the day she found Victor buried up to his neck with a flowerpot over his head), friend Mrs. Warboys (she’ll never forget that country walk with her foot cemented to Victor’s), and neighbors Mr Swainey and his bedridden mother Pippa (she will never forget the pile of radioactive manure on her drive) and Patrick (who will never forget the hideous experience of having a crab surgically removed from his genitals).DVD Features:Audio CommentaryTV Special

I've rarely been as disapointed as I was when I found out the best scene in the Duckman series possibly the greatest scene in TV history was missing on the dvd. In the episode when they do the Star Trek reference the scene where Duckman seduces the women by recreating Will Shatner's unforgetable rendetion of Tambourine Man is CUT OUT!!! Are you kidding me?! It makes me ill just typing this. Yes I think this was one of the greatest TV shows ever but when the distributors do this it's just inexcusable. So you've been warned. Paramount and CBS you owe us all a huge apology and a refund.

Since all the CBS/Paramount releases of TV shows (Cheers, Odd Couple, Happy Days in particular) take all the great music out because of rights, it's refreshing that this release, being a Sony release, has all the music intact. There isn't a whole lot, but there was LESS music in the Season 10 set of Cheers that isn't there. But this show is awesome in its own right. Good cast and good writing.
