That night he meets Sandra (Vanessa Shaw)-a sweet, affable, loving girl. A short time later he runs into Michelle (Gwyneth Paltrow)-a drug addled, promiscuous, party girl who loves a married man. Sandra wants to take care of Leonard and Leonard wants to take care of Michelle.
In his relationship with Michelle, Leonard is the strong one, the good one. In his relationship with Sandra, he continues to be the weak man from his past-the guy that needs gentle understanding. It's no wonder he pines for Michelle even though she's going to lead him down the path of self destruction. But every lover wants the chase.
I loved this movie and am frankly surprised by the bad reviews. Two Lovers may be subtle and a bit slow for some, but I found it nuanced and charming. At times in my life I've been the sunny party girl in love with the wrong man, the depressed lover pining for a an ex, and the sweet affable girl who could utter such lines as "if you don't want me, it's ok. I mean a lot of guys don't want me." Everyone should find at least one character in this film they can relate to. Highly recommended.

Set in the insular world of Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, TWO LOVERS is a classic romantic drama, with Joaquin Phoenix giving a raw and vulnerable performance as Leonard, a charismatic but troubled young man who moves back into his childhood home following a recent heartbreak. While recovering under the watchful eye of his parents (Isabella Rossellini and Moni Monoshov), Leonard meets two women in quick succession: Michelle (Gwyneth Paltrow), a mysterious and beautiful neighbor who is exotic and out-of-place in Leonard's staid world, and Sandra, the lovely and caring daughter of a businessman who is buying out his family's dry-cleaning business. Leonard becomes deeply infatuated by Michelle, who seems poised to fall for him, but is having a self-destructive affair with a married man. At the same time, mounting pressure from his family pushes him towards committing to Sandra. Leonard is forced to make an impossible decision between the impetuousness of desire and the comfort of love or risk falling back into the darkness that nearly killed him.

Ice Castles (2010) Review

(More customer reviews)Quite a few requests for this all week so I had to give it a screening try in the store - and it actually fared quite well. Overall, the rookie acting performances and beautiful professional skating made for a nice film with only a few cliches and a nice message.
The story follows a young skater as she decides to compete, facing the usual obstacles of peer cat fighting, a long distance relationship, and personal sacrifices aggravated by a life changing disability. The topics get grazed over, sometimes too fast to have a huge emotional impact, but the ending success and competent young love story make for an enjoyable watch. The video quality is solid, and the 5.1 gets used more than one would think for a film like this. The supplements include:
* Behind the scenes, 12:53 minutes. A thorough look into the production, skating/acting mixes, and other assorted material without delving too much into the original work.
* Deleted scenes, play all option of 4 scenes totaling 6:38 minutes. All character stuff, which was too bad since this was her only acting performance, so all of the skating was left in the film.
English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Thai with subs in the same with some Chinese and Korean also. Feels a little Lifetime-ish but they did this remake just in time for the Olympics, enjoy.

This is probarly ABC Family's best show yet, I do know for a fact that "Kyle XY" was a big hit for the channel, since I watched & followed it since it appeared on T.V. last summer. "Kyle XY" is about a mysterious guy that questions everything around him, as if he was a animal or a new born child. Even though he's very new to the world, he's already a adult, he also haves great gifts like jumping off tall buildings without getting hurt, playing Basketball better than a professional player does and swimming like dolphins. Kyle can also hear through walls & read people's lips from far away. That's just the beginning of the story, even though these things are impressive to the people around him including his adoptive family, nobody knows about his past, not even Kyle knows. After clues such as familiar people & symbols start popping up, his memory starts coming back. I'm not going to give to much away because I don't want to ruin it for people who haven't seen the show. I will say that "Kyle XY" answers questions while making more of them for the audience watching at home. It's a very interesting show, that grabs you in and doesn't let you go for a second and just when you think you know who Kyle is, a twist comes in and changes your mind.Disc 1:

Doctor Who: Genesis of the Daleks (Story 78) (1975) Review

It has classic scenes, classic lines, classic charcters, a classic setting and the classic of all classic DOCTOR WHO villains - THE DALEKS. How can you go wrong? With both eyes closed, it hardly seems you could... but even the most die hard fan must admit that while GENESIS aims high, it is often mired in a disjointed plot, long winded writing, and paced like a car wreck. It's all bits and pieces flying everywhere - and you can't take your eyes off it. GENESIS OF THE DALEKS is truly a mess - but a wonderful one.
Terry Nation takes us back to the origin of his most famous creations and manages to not only provide a crediable and interesting background story for the Daleks - but establish a new character, DAVROS, who has managed to last almost as long as the Daleks themselves. This is a high point in the story, and one of the main reason why you should own this collection - as for the rest, there are some problems. At six episodes GENESIS runs too long for the material - causing many charcters to reapeat actions, dialouge, plot and story over and over again. The Doctor, Sarah and Harry end up spending a lot of time walking (and running) in this story as well.
From one dome to the another. Above ground, underground, in corridors, under floors, up ladders and down trenches - they are always on the move and always just missing each other at every moment. This story also features one of the least classic monsters in DOCTOR WHO's history - the Giant Clam. It looks exactly like the plastic, spray painted and hand operated "monster" that it is - it's so bad, it's classic. Roger Corman would be proud. But, underneath all the studio cheek and filmed quarry sequences there lies a good story. What do you do when you're presented with the chance to rewrite history? To stop interstellar war, horror and genocide - and what do you do when it's your mission? The Doctor faces these facts and fails to come up with any answers - this is not a bad thing.
GENESIS OF THE DALEKS comes packed as a two disc special edtion and even casual fans will find a number of things here to entertain and inform them. But there are a few downsides - the largest of which is the commentary provided by Baker (the Doctor), Sladen (Sarah), Miles (Nyder) and Maloney (director) - there are a few sparks, but far too many gaps, pauses and long silences as everyone involved tries to remember something. Names pop up, production problems rear their heads and Baker and Sladen demonstrate that chemistry that made them the duo that they were on screen. In fact, it's Sladen that rescues a lot of this commentary - from her references to the new DOCTOR WHO series, and her role in it - to her personal asides and feelings on the production. The worst though has to be Peter Miles who plays Nyder - a dark, vile charcter in the story - but Miles has little next to nothing to say about it. Perhaps there is nothing to be said - Nyder is evil. While I love the ideas behind these commentaries - they are hit and miss. While a Peter Davison and Frazer Hines commentary is bound to leave you informed and laughing - others are trials. A moderator, someone in the know, with facts in hand and the ability to not only prompt, but interview as well, is really required to bring the experience to life.
Text commentary fills in a number of the gaps - but have your remote at the ready. There are times when whole passages of text appear on the screen for two seconds or less, causing you to rewind and pause to read. Also - there are a few errors in facts and some "duh" mistakes that you can't help but laugh at - but they can be forgiven.
GENESIS is a classic. It's one of my all time favorites - and for those new to the series, it's a must own. Look past the extras and just enjoy the show.

The scenes at the circus border on creepy. They're is even a hip-hop version of "Baa, Baa Black Sheep".....groan! Ignore the neat packaging and go find instead DVDs from the "Classic Barney" collection -- titles like "Barney Rhyme Time", "Lets play school" and "outdoor fun". The shows don't feel dated and they were made with a great deal more care.

Kyle XY: The Complete Third And Final Season Review

(More customer reviews)I discovered Kyle XY via Hulu recommendation and from the pilot episode, I was hooked. Kyle XY is a love first, sci-fi second series. And by love, I mean all facets of it from familial and neighborly love to romantic love. It delivered well-balanced messages of respect and caring without being preachy. The sci-fi element that was woven into the story added a touch of excitement and kept the viewer on edge. It reminded me of Dawson's Creek meets Seventh Heaven meets Smallville. It wasn't perfect, but I soaked in every episode and after the shocking season three conclusion, I needed to know what happened.
Although I'd already seen all the episodes in the third season, I got the DVDs because I read in a producer's interview that there would be a special bonus feature wrapping up the show's loose ends. One hour long show meant to wrap up everything wouldn't be what I'd hoped for, but it would be better than nothing. Right? Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.
The season three DVD set includes 3 discs with each episode from the final season. The third disc also has some bonus features. One of the features is "Kyle XY: Future Revealed." As I anxiously awaited the final world-altering episode, my hopes were dashed when it turned out to be a fifteen minute interview with the producers explaining how the story's various threads would have been tied up had the show continued for another season. In fact, all the information they shared was already provided through various written and video interviews posted online and broadcast on TV. Basically, we're told what would have happened, with a few episodic clips thrown in for good measure, but it's still rather unsatisfying.
Also on the DVD are some deleted scenes spanning a few seconds to a couple of minutes each and don't get fooled by the "Sneak Peeks"--they are previews for upcoming programs and not sneak peeks for any future episodes of Kyle XY.
It would be lovely if the writers and producers could collaborate on a book which wraps up the Kyle XY storyline or even a full-length made for TV conclusion to the series, but I'm not holding my breath. To sum up, if you're looking for closure to the Kyle XY series, you probably won't get it on these DVDs.

The series dealed with a former soldier named Al Simmons (Voiced by Keith David) who was killed in the line of military duty was sent to hell, he made a deal with a devil named Malebolgia to get back on Earth so he can see his love Wanda again but only if he joins with Maelbolgia's army if he sends souls to hell so that the battle between Heaven and Hell may start. He is sent five years later only to find himself as a burned man with strange magical clothes and a shroud made from necroplasm, he is called Spawn and wonders through the streets of New York to find out that the love of his love is married to his former best friend Terry Fitzgerald as they have a child together and that Al Simmons has been dead for 5 years as right now the battle between good and evil will start.
A unique adult animated fantasy-horror-action series with excellent animation especially around the second and third seasons with some excellent voice acting by John Dystrat ("The Thing"), Ming Na Wen, John Rafter Lee ("Aeon Flux The Series" and "Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust"), Ronny Cox, James Hong, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Robert Forster, Eric Roberts, and Kurtwood Smith ("Robocop"). This is truly one animated show not for kids due to extreme bloody violence, torture, nudity, sex, foul language and extreme darkness abound all wrapped up in this extremely faithful to the excellent comics series thanks to the magic of Spawn creator Todd Mcfarlane and HBO animation with MadHouse animation.
This 4-Disc special edition collection set contains all three seasons on 3-discs with cool extras like audio commentaries, character profiles, interviews and 3 featurettes.

(More customer reviews)I can't give this collection less than five stars despite the mostly horrible Season 5 included in the series. Steele, I would rather have Season 5 than not. I'm just thankful I will have the entire series on DVD as of August 15, 2006 and can finally retire my deteriorating video tapes forever. My favorite episodes are in the previous seasons, but I enjoy them all, especially "Steele at Your Service" and "Beg, Borrow, or Steele." Just try to forget about Jack appearing in Season 5 and enjoy these final seasons of RS on DVD.

Canterbury's Law: The Complete Series (2008) Review

(More customer reviews)A legal drama with an edge, "CANTERBURY'S LAW" was a series that had so much potential but was cut too short with only six episodes in the DVD complete collection.
The drama which aired during the Spring of 2008 featured Emmy Award Winner Julianna Margulies ("ER") as the feisty defense attorney Elizabeth Canterbury. A woman who seeks justice for the people she defends even if it means breaking the law.
Running the law firm Canterbury & Associates, she is joined by her partner Russel Krauss (Ben Shenkman) and her two attorneys Chester Grant (Keith Robinson) and Molly McConnell (Trieste Kelly Dunn). They take on cases which seem impossible and a grand slam for the District Attorney but Elizabeth Canterbury has always outbest the Deputy Attorney General Zach Willliams (Terry Kinney).
But Elizabeth's personal life is anything but good. Her marriage to her husband Matt, a law professor has gone down the drain since their son was kidnapped. Three years ago, she took her toddler Sam to the playground and answered her phone for business and next thing you know, she lost sight of him and they don't know if he is dead or alive.
Despite being successful as a defense lawyer, her life has been spiraling down hill. She has become a drunk after hours, she has been having an affair with Frank Angstrom (James McCaffrey) and because her husband has held his pain of feeling that she is responsible for their son's kidnapping, he wants to move on with their lives and declare him dead. But Elizabeth believes her son to be alive. And thus, her marriage life is in shambles.
To make things worse, because she has broken the law in order to win a case, now she is being investigated by the District Attorney and Grand Jury for jury tampering.
VIDEO & AUDIO:
"CANTERBURY'S LAW" is featured in 1:78:1 Anamorphic Widescreen. The video quality is similar to a lot of dramas that are on DVD which has a bit of grain.
As for the audio, the audio is English 5.1 (Dolby Digital) and the series is primarily a dialogue-driven drama series with the occasional rock music that is played during certain scenes. But the dialogue is clear and I had no problems hearing the audio.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
There are no special features on this DVD unless you count "previews" as one of them. Previews are for "Damages", "The Lazarus Project", "Rescue Me" and "The Shield".
JUDGMENT CALL:
"CANTERBURY'S LAW" is a legal drama that had a lot of potential and Julianna Margulies did a really good job as Elizabeth Canterbury, a defense lawyer who is strong, feisty and a woman that no one wants to mess with but to show that behind that tough demeanor, her personal life is just in shambles.
With this series coming from Denis Leary and Jim Serpico who are responsible for "Rescue Me", I expected the potential for something explosive for the first season. But it's really unfortunate that FOX canceled the series with only six episodes.
I definitely gave this series a try and I really felt that "CANTERBURY'S LAW" had so much potential and what urked me so much is that by watching these six episodes, there was an ongoing storyline about Elizabeth hoping that her kidnapped son is still alive. And to know that with no conclusion, we're left with an open ended series with no closure.
It's very unfortunate that the creator/director Dave Erickson was never given the opportunity to finalize the series. Even if there was one last episode to tie up loose ends, at least it would have been some sort of closure to the series and its characters. It's a shame to watch these characters taken to such highs but then taken to the lowest of low's and that glimmer of sunshine will never come.
I actually enjoyed Julianna Margulies performance and it was great to see her play this type of role. After watching each of the six episodes, I really got into the main characters (the partner and attorneys at Canterbury's law firm) and seeing this battle of wits between Canterbury and the Deputy Attorney General.
I enjoyed "CANTERBURY'S LAW" but with only six episodes, the series definitely had potential. Unfortunately, the network canceled it too quickly and thus, the series never had any true closure to the series storyline or its characters. And as entertaining the episodes were, you are left with wanting more but knowing that there is no more. What a shame!

30 Rock: Season One (2006) Review

(More customer reviews)Bizarrely, NBC debuted two new series in 2006-2007 that were behind-the-scenes looks at fictional TV shows that bore astonishing resemblences to SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE. Aaron Sorkin's STUDIO 60 ON THE SUNSET STRIP, the more highly touted of the two, did set its fictional SNL on the West Coast, but never really caught on with critics or with many fans and was eventually cancelled. On the other hand, 30 ROCK was an immediate hit with critics and gradually built more and more of a fan base. Though the ratings were never especially strong, NBC has perhaps the best track record of any current network for sticking with quality shows and attempting to nurture a fan base (on any other network both 30 ROCK and FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS would have been cancelled well before the end of the season). Hopefully more fans will discover this superb show and its long term future will be assured.
While the Sorkin series had very tenuous SNL credentials, 30 ROCK's are iron clad. It was created and produced by SNL veteran Tina Fey, who along with Gilda Radner is possibly the most gifted female performer the show has produced. Lorne Michaels serves as a producer, Tracy Morgan is one of the major stars on the show, and a long line of SNL performers appear as guest stars on the show. Rachel Dratch has appeared in so many episodes (albeit as a number of different characters, from Liz Taylor to a Cat Wrangler) that she could almost be considered a regular. It wouldn't be quite correct to call this a SNL spin off, but it comes as close as possible to being that without actually being one.
The show started off as very funny from the very beginning, but it evidenced one of the marks of a good show: it got better and better as it went along. While the writing and the jokes are sharp from the very beginning, the use of the characters got really good in the second half. One of the marks of a good show is that the second half of the debut season is better than the first half. And this one certainly did.
The ensemble cast is absolutely first rate, but three people really stand out. Tina Fey is not only the driving force behind the show, she is delightful as Liz Lemon, the head writer for THE GIRLIE SHOW, the fictional series they all work on. Alec Baldwin is shockingly good as Jack Donaghy, the NBC executive who oversees. He will be certain to get an Emmy nomination, something he will definitely deserve. But for me the funniest thing on the show is Tracy Morgan as an insane (literally) movie actor who joins the show. The overall atmosphere is one of surreal chaos.
I hope the show really takes off with fans this coming season. NBC's Thursday night line up of shows is perhaps the best group of really intelligent comic series ever. Back when they promoted "Must See TV" (which I never watched), they relied mainly on sit coms filmed in front of live audiences. But the current line up features filmed comedies that are smart, funny, and a hoot to watch. And for me they are really are, in contrast to the FRIENDS era, shows that I really feel I must watch.

The spooky narrator was silent and the shows started silent and didnt make sense. I thought I better check Amazon to see the latest details. Come to find out, the company forgot to put the narrator in. I dont really know how you can forget something like that but thats anther story. I emailed the company and the told me to send it back and they'll send out a copy within a week. What a inconvenience. Im so sick of buying defective products then having to go to the post office to mail them back to the sellers. Plus I have to wait an extra two weeks (with shipping) just to watch the show. The show is good but its unrealistic and feels more like a cheaply made horror movie sans the gore. I do enjoy some of the shows they've had and I love the narrator of the show, probably second best to Robert Stack. I recommend this show to people who like Unsolved Mysteries, only if they wished the program was extended by forty minutes or more. The dvd is pretty bare and looks like it was made for pretty cheap. Probably the reason why the was narrator left out. It is good for a scare or two though.

(More customer reviews)Don't be put off by the title - this is one of the best Britcoms to hit the US Shores. This show is totally unique - set in the British retirement community of Bayview, and it's inmates...er, I mean RESIDENTS, are taking steps to NOT gracefully fade away!
I have never laughed aloud so much at a series as I have at the adventures of Stephanie Cole's Diana Trent (spinster & proud of it) and Graham Crowden's Tom (part-time bullfighter on the moon, when he wasn't digging out of Colditz with "Dickie and Johnny"), and their battles against Daniel Hill's "The Idiot Baines" and Janine Duvitski's love-starved Jane. Together with sex-fiend Basil and other inmates, and constantly thwarting the efforts of Tom's revolting family to control them, the antics are pricelss.
What keeps me watching the episodes is the way the characters are presented. Diana puts it thusly: "We are not a group to be managed." Fighting for the respect they deserve - in a society that reveres age in everything but itself - Diana and Tom carve such a niche at Bayview that Harvey spends the entire run of the show trying to chuck them out! Ideas that would be handled with all the tact of a road roller in the US get treated with a sense of decorum. The episode entitled "Scandal," first aired in October of 1993, is proof of that. The final episode of the show ('Two Weddings')is so well done that it literally leaves one's ribs sore from laughing.
I have been hunting for all 47 episodes of the show, which form a total story, with a beginning (Tom's arrival), a middle (the Scandal!), and an end (call it two weddings and a funeral - not the one released). This series is done with wit and taste, and in many ways I am GLAD it never made it across the Atlantic. American producers would have surely messed it up. My home-taped episodes are in danger of wearing out.
Now, FINALLY, there is hope on the horizon in the form of a DVD of Series (Season) 1. I have no idea why BBC won't go ahead and release the whole thing - there are only 45 episodes plus two Christmas specials (only one Christmas special has ever been shown in the US to my knowledge; it was a double length show). If BBC is simply going to release them series by series (or season by season), let's hope that enough of the first one sells!
Once you visit Bayview, you'll want to go back, and seven episodes won't be enough!

If you aren't into creative humor, or you are looking for a real fishing documentary then forget it. If you appreciate the unusual however, go for it. Just make sure you have a couple of hours to devote to floor-rolling laughter. When you are done watching it, invite some friends over and watch it again! It's even better the second time around.

(More customer reviews)After watching the initial 16 black-and-white, hour length episodes in addition to the unaired colour pilot of "Eleven Days to Zero" (14/09/1964) in the VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA - SEASON ONE, VOLUME ONE 3-disc set I was pleasantly surprised to find that there were absolutely no technical problems encountered with all this considerably hefty amount of viewing pleasure crammed onto a mere 3 DVDs as I initially feared.
I'm pleased to report that the volume one collection turned out to be a truly exceptional tv premium and can be highly recommended to all devout VOYAGE fans.
The impending volume two set (scheduled for release on July 11th, 2006) is no less impressive in content with many outstanding efforts presented taken from a consistently excellent first season (1964-65) most notably being "Mutiny," "Doomsday," "The Invaders," "The Buccaneer," "The Human Computer," "The Saboteur," "The Amphibians," "The Enemies," "The Condemned" and "The Traitor."
The glittering galaxy of star-studded celebrities making brilliant guest appearances in the latter half of the first season formidably includes Robert Duvall, Donald Harron, Michael Constantine, Barry Atwater, Harold J. Stone, Warren Stevens, Edward Asner, John Anderson, Rudy Solari, Skip Homeier, Leslie Nielsen, Torin Thatcher, J.D. Cannon, Henry Silva, Michael Pate, David Sheiner, Bert Freed, John Van Dreelan, Malachi Throne, Arthur Franz, Joe De Santis and George Sanders.

As with volume one fully restored and digitally remastered, pristine video transfers taken from the original 35mm source elements will be utilized providing optimum visual and sound clarity for maximum entertainment pleasure.
By the first year's end not only would VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA (ABC 1964-68) commendably prove itself to be a television sensation and renewed for the 1965-66 tv season on the ABC Television Network but it would be further honoured with an Emmy Award for L.B. Abbott in the category of Outstanding Special Photographic Effects. Doctor Who: Lost in Time Collection of Rare Episodes, The Patrick Troughton Years 1966-1969 (1975) Review

(More customer reviews)What a treat this DVD set is! 12 rarely-seen episodes from the Troughton era of Doctor Who, on a 2 DVD set. In fact, these have never been aired on US television. The sad reality about Doctor Who, is that a fair number of the earliest episodes of the program have not survived, so we are left with certain early stories which only have the occasional episode in existence.

Thank heavens that the powers-that-be felt there might be interest in a collection such as this. To be fair, these odds and ends may not be to everyone's taste, as they don't consist of complete stories, but they are interesting in their own right, and provide a nice sampling of the remarkable series that is Doctor Who:

THE UNDERWATER MENACE 3 - Originally a four-part story, only the third part exists, but it does provide the earliest existing episode to feature Patrick Troughton's unique take on the Doctor, accompanied by his companions Ben, Polly and Jamie. The episode is rather bizarre, featuring an adventure in Atlantis with fish-people and a mad scientist, but it is unlike anything else ever seen in the series.

THE MOONBASE 2 & 4 - Enter the Cybermen for this adventure, in only their second appearance on Doctor Who. This time the action takes place on the moon itself, and as an added bonus, the two missing episodes (1 & 3) are included in audio-only format, so one can follow the entire story. Find out how Polly's tea-making skills save the day!

THE FACELESS ONES 1 & 3 - Two existing episodes from the six-parter in which chameleon-like aliens are hijacking airline passengers for their own nefarious plot. Features location footage at Gatwick Airport in London, and is also the last story to feature Ben and Polly as the Doctor's companions.

EVIL OF THE DALEKS 2 - The final appearance of the Daleks in the 1960's, this existing episode from the 7-parter, offers a unique look at a story many consider to be one of the all-time classics. Also, features the debut of Victoria. Commentary track is available for this episode.

THE ABOMINABLE SNOWMEN 2 - The Doctor, Jamie and Victoria encounter the deadly Yeti in the Himalayans in this surviving episode from the 6-parter. This episode also has an optional commentary track.

THE ENEMY OF THE WORLD 3 - A taste of espionage in this thriller, in which Patrick Troughton doubles as the villanous Salamander. The only surviving episode from the 6-parter.

THE WEB OF FEAR 1 - The Yeti return, this time in the Underground System of a deserted London. This is the existing first part of the 6-part story. There is an optional commentary track for this episode.

THE WHEEL IN SPACE 3 & 6 - The Cybermen return in this adventure set on a space station. Zoe makes her first appearance in the series, and episode 6 features an optional commentary. Originally a six-part story.

THE SPACE PIRATES 2 - This sole survivor of the six-part story puts the Doctor, Jamie and Zoe in the midst of a grand space adventure.

As if these 12 episodes weren't enough, also included are an insane number of clips from other 1960's Doctor Who adventures, plus a meaty documentary about The Missing Years.

Again, these odds and ends may not be for everyone, but they are a unique collection of episodes that are quite rare, and they have all been cleaned up and have never looked better. A worthwhile investment for any Doctor Who fan. Please consider the companion DVD devoted to the Hartnell era as well.

The retirement complex for the almost dead, whose administrator (Harvey Bains, played by Daniel Hill) is constantly plagued by the antics of the two aging with attitude oldsters, Tom & Diana (Graham Crowden & Stephanie Cole). This is 'Round Four.' Score so far: Tom & Diana, 4; Harvey, 0. And so it continues. With interesting situations, snapppy dialogue, and remarkable characterizations, the battle continues. This is my all-time favourite BritCom, bar none.
This season marks the appearance - for the first time on this side of the Atlantic of which I am aware - of the second Christmas episode. According to my sources, Diana is chosen to direct a Christmas Pagent. (That is the working equivalent of putting Pontius Pilate in charge of a Hannukah Festival.)
If you have never "been to Bayview" DO NOT MAKE THIS YOUR FIRST SET OF DISCS. Start at the beginning, with Season (Series) One, episode one ("Arrival.") Jumping in here would not only confuse, but spoil the fun of getting to know Tom & Diana as those of us who have followed their adventures have. The show has a definite beginning, middle, and end. Oddly enough, I was first introduced to the unlikely pair through the episode "The Seance," and my host had to explain way too much to me, although I did about die laughing. You will too, regardless of what episode you watch; however, as a WFG veteran, I do strongly recommend viewing in order.
Bayview - there really should be one at the end of every acacia avenue! My highest recommendation goes to the entire series. I can't wait for the final episode of the final season. Too bad BBC saw fit to release the discs with agonizing (for us) slowness.
Here's to Tom & Diana - long may they plot!

Led Zeppelin - The Song Remains the Same Review

(More customer reviews)This 1976 concert film is one Led Zeppelin item that really did deserve to be improved and expanded. In the November 2007 glut of new Zep products related to the film, this 2-DVD set is clearly the optimal purchase. (Note that this review was written after actually purchasing and consuming the item in question, which appears to be a real rarity so far.) The "Collector's Edition" DVD set adds merchandise that will only be of value to super-diehards, and the new edition of the soundtrack album is apparently built around the new remaster of the movie itself and displays some odd editing choices. I have always felt that the purely audio soundtrack of the movie suffers from the lack of visuals - for example, all 27 minutes of "Dazed and Confused" makes more sense visually because you can watch the theatricality of Jimmy Page's stage performance, while merely listening to the accompanying soundtrack can be tedious. To a lesser extent, the same goes for the extra lengthy "Moby Dick" because while soloing, John Bonham could be even more enjoyable to watch than to listen to. So the film itself is the apotheosis of the entire "The Song Remains the Same" project, and this 2-DVD set presents much needed improvements in audio and video quality, with some bonus items that add value for the enthusiastic fan without becoming obsessive.
Though I'm a lifelong Zep fan, I actually hadn't seen this movie in around 20 years. And I had forgotten how cheesy the non-concert footage truly is, with the fantasy sequences serving as little more than period vanity pieces that rarely rise above the amateurish. But who cares, because the concert sequences are stupendous, and in this DVD set they have been presented for maximum aural and visual impact (yes these two shows weren't the band's best, but they were still light years beyond most other rock acts). As for the DVD extras, the interviews and news segments have some curiosity value, but the true goodies are the extra concert sequences. We finally have official video for the blistering performance of "Celebration Day," which was always my favorite from the old original soundtrack album. Other bonuses include "Misty Mountain Hop," though the uncoordinated performance of this song deserved to be left out of the original film; plus a surprisingly heavy take on "Over the Hills and Far Away."
For many years the original movie and soundtrack were the only (official) live Zep documents available. For the real live goods, we now have the 2003 CD package "How the West Was Won" and the 2003 self-titled DVD set, which are considerably more hard-hitting and far-reaching than "The Song Remains the Same." But even though it's no longer the definitive live document, fans have long deserved an improved version of the film. For all but the most obsessive collectors, the 2-DVD set is the way to go.
