Haunted History visits Tombstone, Washington, D.C., Savannah, Hawaii, and Chicago to find out the local ghost. Chicago forgets to mention it's most famous ghost, Resurrection Mary but you can find it on the much better dvd Unsolved Mystery's Ghosts Stories. I watched most of the dvds but I found it just too damn boring and most stories seem rushed and could have been fleshed out more. If your a fan of ghost stories I prefer you pick up A Haunting or Unsolved Mystery's Best of Ghost Stories. I believe Haunted History did visit most of all the states just type in Haunted History and a state on Amazon to find if they did your state. The will be releasing this as part of a "mega-set" and i'd recommend that instead if you must buy the set.

Although the material presented is fairly interesting, the price of this DVD is much too high for the length (45 minutes total) of the disc. Something along the line of $9.00 would have been much more reasonable. Three separate "hauntings" are presented. Details of each are shown, followed by efforts to explain the causes. There are no extras....only the basic 45 minute program. Recommend that one wait until this comes to the nearest video rental store or, perhaps, acquire it via Netflix.

A Haunting in Georgia Review

I recommend buying The Veil: Heidi Wyrick's Story The Veil to find out all the details this haunting documentary doesn't reveal (because of time constraints and storytelling).
As it is, this documentary can stand on its own. I caught this on the Discovery Channel by accident and was stunned to realize this was the same family from "Mr. Gordy's Ghost" in Unsolved Mysteries: Ghosts Unsolved Mysteries.
I have nothing but respect for the Wyrick family and especially Heidi, who innocently befriended a man long dead. Their faith and fortitude are sorely tested by the bizarre occurrences and by the spirits---some good, some neutral, and some downright evil--that are drawn to Heidi.
The staging, as with the rest of this series, is definitely Hollywood and calculated for effect, but it works, it makes you keep watching. The narrators achieve the right somber tone. The actor playing "Mr. Gordy" as well as the one playing "Con" tug at your heart, they are so believable.
And the actor playing the menacing "dark figure" (shadow person) that terrorized Heidi deserves his/her kudos for being convincingly creepy. In every scene with the dark figure, I had to cover my eyes for a moment (there's a moment in the DVD when Heidi is following the ghost of a little girl, and the dark figure appears casually in one room Heidi passes in a blink-and-miss-it moment).
But it is Heidi that shines in this documentary with her vulnerability and her strength. It was also nice to see Dr. William Roll of "Unsolved Mysteries" fame.

As Seen On The Discovery ChannelBased on true events, A Haunting in Georgia is the chilling story of four-year-old Heidi and her imaginary friends Mr. Gordy and Con. As Heidi reveals mysterious details about the two, her parents become concerned...could her playmates be more than make-believe? When the rest of the family begins experiencing terrifying phenomena--waking with deep gashes on their bodies--it seems there's little they can do to stop the escalating nightmare.

I agree that Ryan is doing a great job. Sometimes I wonder if everything is the truth but that is only because it scares me and I wish it wasn't the truth. Ryan does not call out demon, the others do. He may think there is a demon possible and then he will call on a medium etc. and they will tell him if it's a demon or not. He is not crying out demon. I grew up in a haunted home. It was a duplex. Our parents hid most of it from us, but now that I am older, we talk and it all makes sense. The things my mom pushed aside or had excuses for then, sound crazy now. We really do believe that there was evil on the other half of the house and good on our side. The good on our side was always battling the evil next door in order to keep us safe. For that reason my mother didn't want to get rid of anything on our side. I also babysat in a house that had some horrifying things happen. I grew up Catholic and I really didn't believe in the bad after life. I thought Heaven was the only thing. God forgave every person. After the bad experience in that house I sat in, I am a complete believer in evil and Hell. So, this show is amazing because it doesn't just show you there is or may be a ghost. It is showing reality. Also, in many cases, these demons are invited it. Tell me that worshiping the devil doesn't cause consequences. O.K., thanks for listening to my opinion.

A Haunting in Connecticut and A Haunting in Georgia were the two pilot episodes which led to the Discovery Channel series "A Haunting". Don't let that scare you away though because A Haunting in Connecticut is the best of the series, bar none. It's a story about a family who's teenage son gets cancer and to get him closer to his doctors they move to a house in Connecticut. When arriving at the house the parents, and eventually the children, realize that the house is a former funeral home, in which the previous owners still lurk in the basement!

As Seen On The Discovery ChannelThe day Karen and Ed Parker move into their dream home, ominous clues of its chilling funeral parlor past greet them: crucifixes on doors, toe tags and coffin keys in the basement. Their 14-year-old son, Paul, claims he sees apparitions and hears voices. Soon, the house is plagued by dark forces that torment the entire family, and it will take a desperate call to Edward and Lorraine Warren--investigators of the Amityville haunting--to offer any hope of relief.

I think they are releasing season 3 on dvd for region 1(USA).Gosh,I hope so!!!!This series was basically about a team of scientists and former cops who investigated paranormal cases- it was a series filmed in Canada in the late 90's into the year 2000. The series was introduced every week by Dan Ackroid(spelling?)who also introduced the kind of case and who would be investigating it(Barclay Hope,Maurice Dean Wint,etc)-Dan was one of the executive producers of the series. This series has been out on Region 2 for awhile-come on release it here I'm waiting......

Beyond Reality - The First Season (2006) Review

Beyond Reality - The First Season (2006)
Average Reviews:

BEYOND REALITY appeared on the USA cable network for two seasons. Forty-four half-hour episodes aired between 10/1/91 and 3/1/93. The show centered on two university-based parapsychologists, portrayed by Shari Belafonte (as Laura Wingate) and Carl Marotte (as J.J. Stillman) and their explorations of poltergeists, telekinesis and other such eerie phenomena. Also appearing infrequently was Nicole de Boer (as Celia Powell).
MCE's DVD set of BEYOND REALITY contains all 20 Season #1 episodes plus two from the second season. They probably did this to evenly divide this program's catalog into lots of 22, but short of consulting J.J and Laura, we can't know for certain if a Season #2 collection is in the foreseeable future.THE RAY BRADBURY THEATER - Complete Series consists of 65 episodes-- all based on show host Bradbury's short stories. It's a little-seen and fascinating 1980's anthology of sci-fi and fantasy that featured such fine actors as William Shatner, Jeff Goldblum, Leslie Nielson and Peter O'Toole. The "Beyond Reality" Season #1 list is sequential by original airdate.
Also included are episode titles and featured guest stars.

A Haunting - Seasons 1-4 Review

A Haunting - Seasons 1-4
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was a fan of A Haunting when it ran on the Discovery channel and I was very sad to see them cancel this show. A Haunting was produced by New Dominion Pictures, who did the FBI Files and the New Detectives series that also ran on Discovery. For those who are not familiar with the show, A Haunting covers real life experiences of encounters with the paranormal. Interviews with people who experienced the paranormal activity are included. Some appear in shadow and the show is augmented by reenactments of their stories. What sets this show apart from others is the high quality production values and interview with both the individuals and the paranormal investigators who assisted them and shed light into their craft. The various methods of scientific study and differing types of hauntings, demons, phantoms and etc. are fascinating. This show is scary, (scarier than many horror movies, it was so well produced) there is no gore, but the atmosphere is extremely creepy. If you watch some of these episodes late at night, they can give people bad dreams, as seveal of my coworkers will attest. It is so well done, that the actors simply blend into the roles. There are four seasons in this set. I will share some of my favorites.
Season 1
Hell House - A demon story featuring the renowned Ed and Lorraine Warren. One of the scariest shows of the entire series.
Season 2
Gateway to Hell - A haunted nightclub built on the site of an old slaughterhouse by the Licking River which flows true north. Another one of the scariest of the series.
Hungry Ghosts - A house in Taiwan that was built to curse its inhabitants. Another series scariest.
Where Demons Dwell - A young boy is tormented by a deomonic presence and Ed and Lorraine Warren are called in. Very creepy!
Ghost Solider - A haunted photograph complicates a lonley woman's life when she finds not one but two spirits.
Season 3
Fear House - A house that sends many of its occupants fleeing. One former resident attempts to help another family before its too late.
The Unleashed - A man plays with witchcraft and suffers the consequences. Very scary.
Wheatsheaf Horror - A a spirit haunting a pub in Britain attacks those within and a psychic faces her own fears.
The Possessed - A paranormal investigator becomes possessed herself and seeks help from legendary demonolgist John Zaffis. One of the the scariest of the entire series.
Season 4
The Apartment - The spirits of a drug dealer and his victim haunt a young couple and terrify a psychic.
Where Evil Lurks - A family discovers that their house is a portal to hell. When one demon is banished another takes its place. Another scary one.
Casa De Los Muertos - A famous musician with the gift of sense battles a deadly ghost. I won't give away the twist of this story. Another creepy tale.
Legend Trippers - Teens are fascinated by an eerie legend in an old cemetery. Sereral groups who experienced the haunting are profiled.
A Haunting is an excellent show that will make you think twice about how to perceive the world. It is also interesting to see how the people handled what they experienced. Some turned to their faith, others turned away and many who did not believe in the paranormal now do.

It hasn't been very long ago that I thought paranormal occurences were made up. Now I am a true believer. I remembered years ago the house I grew up in had alot of unusual noices and sounds and missing items. I was told by my parents that it was nothing. But watching this show and learning that what I saw and heard probably were ghosts or other things. I like this show because nothing is done to make an investigation more interesting. I think these young investigators have done alot to do away with everything but the real deal. This season is the best one they have done so far and the quality of the show is alot better than other hunters. Good job well done on this DVD.

I bought this set in a big box store somewhere, never having seen "One Step Beyond" the first time around. But knowing that "Twighlight Zone" was something I loved viewing on the SciFi Channel I purchased this - and LOVED IT!
There is something slightly more mannered yet weird in the production. There are many famous young faces. The stories are based on "true account" and in this it has a slightly tabloid feel.
Watching it a year later - I again loved it. That tells me it is a good DVD investment. I would take the risk if you've never seen "One Step Beyond" but enjoy the age and the genre.

One Step Beyond, the classic TV series of 1959, premiered nine months before another spooky, and perhaps more well known television show revolving around the paranormal, The Twilight Zone. Both shows featured hosts, were centered on the supernatural, and superbly evoked a spine-chilling experience for the viewer. But one immense distinction sets One Step Beyond apart from its successor--the episodes are true stories. Rather than tell fictional tales about the unexplained, this series relayed historic accounts of the unknown, including tales of ghosts, mysterious disappearances, and ghoulish monsters. Hosted by the intense and impenetrable John Newland, this long-running series promises you a bone-chilling fright night of creepy entertainment based on factual accounts.

If your interested in the paranormal, this series will not let you down.
The various cases are interesting, Buell & his cast actually have screen presence by just being themselves, and the outcome of each episode is not always predictable.
I've viewed Ghost Adventures & Ghost Hunters, and similar themed programs, yet none have the overall appeal this series consistently offers.
As i pre-ordered "Season three," here on Amazon, i was also knocked out by the low, low price!

Ghost Hunters - Season 2, Part 1 (2004) Review

Ghost Hunters - Season 2, Part 1 (2004)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Big Vision, the company responsible for putting out "Ghost Hunters: Season 2, Parts 1 and 2" and "Ghost Hunters: Season 1," still have a long way to go with the production quality of their discs, but they definitely listen to their customers and attempt to make corrections. For starters, they've hulked up the DVD cases for Season 2, making it virtually impossible for the discs to become dislodged during shipping. This was a major complaint of many folks of Season 1's release. Secondly, the picture has gotten better. Granted, it's not perfect, and it's still too grainy during the investigations to see everything that's going on, but it has improved slightly. Finally, the audio is okay. As stated before, there is still plenty of space for changes and improvements, but Big Vision seems to be taking its customers advice to heart.
Now, on to Season 2, Part 1, in which we find Jason and Grant and the rest of the TAPS team seeking out more ghosts or lack thereof. This particular set includes one of my favorite cases: Myrtles Plantation. They also revisit Eastern State Penitentiary and tackle the Rolling Hills Asylum, the wacky Winchester House, and the U.S.S. North Carolina.
TAPS has always managed to impress me with their professionalism. Search any number of "ghost hunting" websites and you'll see that many of them are nothing more than a bunch of teen and college-aged kids hanging out in the graveyard or trespassing onto abandoned property. TAPS takes the paranormal very seriously. It almost takes an act of God to make them label a location as haunted. When they do, you can rest assured that they've done everything in their power to debunk a ghost's existence.
I highly recommend this DVD set, as well as Part 2 of Season 2 and the first season. You'll be impressed at how the TAPS team takes time to explain what an EMF detector is, what "orbs" are and probably aren't, and how something as simple as a mirror can play tricks on your mind.
Another great thing about this particular set is in the deleted scenes area where Brian is confronted by a woman and called a few derogatory terms. It's fun at the expense of Brian, but let's face it, Brian's just a funny guy.
"Dude, Run!!!"

Paranormal State: The Complete Season One Review

Paranormal State: The Complete Season One
Average Reviews:

I have been very impressed with Paranormal State for many reasons. They do more than go into a situation and find evidence of spirits, a haunting, etc., they then try to solve the problem. They don't just say - "yeah, you've got a ghost, bye now." They help the family understand what is happening and why, they help the spirit move on (or not, if the family decides letting it remain is the right thing to do). It is all handled with sincerity and professionalism and great decorum. When they do "dead time" and ask questions (hoping to get answers on the EVP recorder), they don't bombard the entity with questions, they ask a question, then give it an opportunity to respond. They don't joke around when on site. They don't yak to each other. They focus totally on what they are doing. They are so polite and caring. Chip Coffey, the medium they bring in on some of the cases, is wonderful. He is very talented and I like him a lot. Although I do enjoy Ghost Hunters, too, the two series are as different as night and day. I look forward to Paranormal State II coming out on DVD as well when the new season ends.

Paranormal State is the very first series that explores paranormal investigations through the eyes and minds of college students. This series follows the dramatic life of Penn State University college student Ryan Buell and the other student members of one of the first university sanctioned Paranormal Research Society (PRS) as they seek to find the truth behind terrifying real life mysteries. Although the members of PRS are your basic college kids - dealing with the problems of school, dating, and finding their way in the world - they are definitely looking into other worlds as well, working on cases that include poltergeists, haunting and the darkest areas of the unknown. Each week they are contacted for help by outside parties ranging from The Catholic Church to ordinary families who are terrified by something supernatural happening in their lives.

I was excited to get this dvd set. I popped it in the player and I thought my audio was messed up. The spooky narrator was silent and the shows started silent and didnt make sense. I thought I better check Amazon to see the latest details. Come to find out, the company forgot to put the narrator in. I dont really know how you can forget something like that but thats anther story. I emailed the company and the told me to send it back and they'll send out a copy within a week. What a inconvenience. Im so sick of buying defective products then having to go to the post office to mail them back to the sellers. Plus I have to wait an extra two weeks (with shipping) just to watch the show. The show is good but its unrealistic and feels more like a cheaply made horror movie sans the gore. I do enjoy some of the shows they've had and I love the narrator of the show, probably second best to Robert Stack. I recommend this show to people who like Unsolved Mysteries, only if they wished the program was extended by forty minutes or more. The dvd is pretty bare and looks like it was made for pretty cheap. Probably the reason why the was narrator left out. It is good for a scare or two though.

I didn't buy this set, but if I did I may have saved a *few* bucks. I got season 1-3 as they came out. Anyway, This show is about a woman who sees the dead, she got the gift from her grandmother but after a while you learn her mother has the gift also. She has a loving husband who is very accepting of the gift. I recall during one episode he mentioned that he works so hard on his job tryin to save lives cause hes afraid that if someone dies they will go running to his wife. ( he is a fireman ). They have their sad moments, silly moments, after a while they even adopt a ghost dog. Which she tries to figure out how to cross over. She and her husband seem to be the perfect couple through the whole series and you grow to love them. She has a best friend, who knows her secret. Who leaves for some reason I won't tell everything, she gains a new best friend.. who isn't as accepting of her gift.. and well. Its a great series and i LOVE it. cant get enough of it. Jennifer Love is wonderful. Beautiful, and acts great. Im sure anyone who enjoys shows like medium or supernatural would LOVE this show as well. Any questions, bug me.. id be more than happy to answer them.
Once i get the time ill do a review of every episode, one by one :)
